Entropy production in periodically driven systems
Jankola, Marek ; Ryabov, Artem (advisor) ; Novotný, Tomáš (referee)
Thermodynamic uncertainty relations (TURs) interrelate dynamical quantities, like the rate of current and its fluctuations, and the entropy production. They are well established for several thermodynamically consistent time-homogeneous Markov processes such as the overdamped Brownian motion in a tilted periodic potential (TP). However, for processes subjected to time-dependent external driving, the general framework for such relations is unknown. Here we focus on a class of periodically driven systems, whose dynamics can be mapped onto the ones of time-homogeneous Markov processes. We leverage this mapping to derive the entropy production for the overdamped Brownian motion in a travelling-wave potential (TW), which yields an inverse TUR, i.e., the upper bound on the entropy production. This bound is given by the rate of current and the dispersion coefficient, which are experimentally observable quantities. The inverse TUR delivers bounds on kinetic efficiency of a transport of particles by TW potential, such as the recently demonstrated experiments with an optical conveyor belt (OCB). The measured values of the resulting speed of submicrometer-sized colloidal particle, when subjected to transport by OCB moving at certain speeds, match our results. Additionally, using the inverse TUR, we analyse the bounds...
Predicting Production Times Using Machine Learning
Novotný, Tomáš ; Pilát, Martin (advisor) ; Neruda, Roman (referee)
With the development of automated task planning in industry, the requirements for a correct estimation of the parameters of individual operations, especially their lead time, are increasing. This thesis is discussing various methods of estimating the lead time for new tasks automatically from previously executed tasks. The first part of the thesis focuses on standard regression algorithms and their modifications according to the suitability for this problem. The second, main part of the theses, focuses on solutions using deep neural networks, which are able to process unstructured data, such as textual descriptions of operations. The final results show that deep learning achieves a good level of prediction, especially for new types of operations. Its practical use can therefore be recommended as an estimate for planning new products, especially in highly dynamic environments.
Methods for Design of Virtual Twin of a Dynamic System
Kšica, Filip ; Novotný, Tomáš (referee) ; Holub, Michal (referee) ; Hadaš, Zdeněk (advisor)
Over the last decade, digital twins and cyber-physical systems have been slowly developed from mere theoretical concepts to potent industrial applications in a large spectrum of areas, however, ambiguous understanding of the fundamentals significantly complicates the process of finding a general methodology necessary for their successful implementation. Therefore, one of the main goals of this thesis is a systematic study of these concepts and their main parts, followed by formulating a methodology that could lead to successful and effective industrial applications in the context of current projects. The key part in this effort falls to computational modelling and dynamic reduction of complex mechanical systems that comprise the digital part of a digital twin, including but not limited to the main structure but also sensing systems. These sensing systems serve as cyber-physical systems that fulfill the role of interactive links between the individual parts of a digital twin and are introduced in the last part of this thesis in the context of manufacturing industry, airspace, and railway industry, where they are used not only for condition and operational monitoring, but also provide large amount of accurate real-time data for structure health monitoring and predictive maintenance purposes.
The participle constructions from a comparational point of view using the example of Günter Grass' translations as a case study
Novotný, Tomáš ; Tichák, Viktor (advisor) ; Hejhalová, Věra (referee)
The contrastive analysis of the free participle I-phrases in German and their translation equivalents in Czech comprises the core of this bachelor's thesis. The introduction highlights the reasons for the choice of the theme, explains the goal of the thesis and provides description of its individual parts. The description of the key attributes of the free participle I-phrases in German and the transgressives of simultaneity in Czech constitutes the majority of the theoretical part. Their common attributes are then used to show their semantic proximity. The methodology highlights the means and procedures used in the individual parts of the analysis. The quantitative analysis consists mainly of the numeral comparison of the phrase types and word forms from the analysed sample, that occur as equivalent forms within the translations of the chosen three books from Grass. In addition to that the decline in use of the free participle Iphrases and the transgressives of simultaneity within the analysed sample is also discussed here. The qualitative analysis shows the equivalence of all the different types of translation from the analysed sample with the original forms using a wide range of paraphrases and explanations. At the end the results of the analysis are summarised and compared with the initial statement of...
Supercurrent in nanoscale devices. Mean-field theory
Urban, Vladimír ; Janiš, Václav (advisor) ; Novotný, Tomáš (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the influence of the magnetic field on the discrete states of the Josephson junction and the influence of the continuous states on the behaviour of a single-level quantum dot with electron correlation coupled to BCS superconductors. We calculated the interaction of electrons within the theory of the mean-field. The thesis has two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part we discuss the physics of the problem, introduce a model and method of solution using Green's functions. In the practical part we present numerical results. The quantum dot was first studied in a non- interacting case with an external magnetic field and later with the interaction between electrons. We solved the interacting case for half-filling and depending on the energy level of the impurity. We found that one discrete state of the Josephson junction can pass into a band in a spin-polarized solution if the phase difference between the superconducting leads is zero. We characterized the individual contributions to the superconducting current and explained why the established density of Cooper pairs on the impurity can be negative. 1
Performance Assessment of the Selected Company according to Model Start and Proposals for the Improvement
Novotný, Tomáš ; Putnová, Anna (referee) ; Veselý, Josef (advisor)
The main task of the bachelor's thesis is to evaluate the performance of the selected company according to the Start model, identify strengths and opportunities for improvement and then process proposals for improvement. The work consists of three parts: theoretical part, analytical part and design part. The theoretical part explains the basic concepts that are needed to understand this issue. In the analytical part, the company is analyzed according to the Start model questionnaire and the identification of strengths and opportunities for improvement. In the design part, there are specific proposals that are based on the questionnaire.
