Influence of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization Approach on Maximum Kayak Paddling Power
Davídek, Pavel ; Kobesová, Alena (advisor) ; Kolář, Pavel (referee) ; Matoulek, Martin (referee)
INTRODUCTION: The aim of this thesis is to identify the effect of trunk stabilization training based on Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) on maximum kayak ergometer power output and reported self-disability in the shoulder girdle area. METHOD: Thirty flatwater kayakers of both genders (17 - 25 years old) were randomly divided into two groups. Crossover design was used for this study. Subjects in the experimental group (group A) integrated DNS exercises into standard flatwater training during the first phase. The control group (group B) conducted only common flat water training at the same time. After 6 weeks, the groups were switched. Then group B underwent the same DNS exercise with the same intensity and the same time. The intervention was the same for both phases and took 6 weeks. Group A performed only standard off-season training during the second phase. The maximum power output on kayak ergometer was measured three times (before study, after 6 weeks and after 12 weeks). Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) were analyzed at the same time. RESULTS: Initially, no significant differences in maximum power output on kayak ergometer and the DASH questionnaire score were identified between the groups. During the first phase the experimental group (group A) improved the maximum...
Evaluation of resting energy expenditure and body composition in obese patients
Jílková, Anna ; Matoulek, Martin (advisor) ; Zelinka, Tomáš (referee)
Introduction: The basis of obesity treatment is a conservative regimen based on a reduced diet and physical activity, individually set for each person. As the obese often show extreme deviations in body composition compared to individuals of normal weight, it is often difficult to determine their energy needs or determine their energy expenditure. The gold standard for determining resting energy expenditure (REE) is examination using indirect calorimetry (IC). This method can also detect deviations from the calculations of predictive equations, determine the degree of adaptation of the individual to low energy intake, and thus set the appropriate therapy. Objectives: The main objective of the work is the analysis and description of data on body composition and resting energy expenditure values of selected groups of obese individuals whose REE measurement results using indirect calorimetry reached a level below 95 % of the predicted REE calculated using the Harris Benedict (H-B) equation. The sub-goals are to describe the dependence of the size of some components of body composition on the size of the REE and to find out if the deviations between the number of the total measured REE and the REE calculated using H-B in the adapted group are significant. Methodology: For the research 71 patients of...
Longevity -influence of nutrition and physical activity
Pausar, Martin ; Matoulek, Martin (advisor) ; Vágnerová, Tereza (referee)
Introduction: Longevity and the factors influencing it have long been the subject of interest for both laypeople and experts. One approach to studying this issue is the observation of individuals who can be considered long-lived and whose physical and mental condition allows them to continue living a high-quality life. Some factors that determine this quality can be influenced more than others. Lifestyle is one of the modifiable factors, particularly its components such as diet, physical activity, and minimizing harmful habits. Aims: The main aim of the bachelor thesis is to find and describe possible common features in the field of eating habits and physical activity in a group of seniors aged 80 years and above. The first objective is to determine the frequency of consumption of selected foods or groups of foods and beverages. The second is to record the prevalence of selected non- communicable diseases in the sample studied and compare with the general population. The third was then to ascertain the proportion of fat and muscle mass of the respondents. Methodology: Data were collected through questionnaire surveys, direct interviews, and supplementary measurements of body composition. The data were then transformed into numerical form and analyzed using a spreadsheet software. A custom frequency...

Černohlávek, Lukáš ; Matoulek, Martin (advisor) ; Kolár, Leoš (referee)
Introduction: Obesity is characterized as an excessive accumulation of fat that can impair health. Nowadays, obesity is considered to be a very serious problem that is becoming increasingly important as the number of obese people increases. One of the options for treating severe obesity is surgical treatment or performing bariatric surgery. These allow significant weight loss with a long-lasting effect, so they are a very good solution for highly obese people. Aim: The aim of this interventional study is to compare changes in fitness and body composition before and after bariatric surgery in patients in the bariatric patient register of the 3rd Internal Clinic of the General Faculty Hospital in Prague who underwent bariatric surgery in 2022. The aim is also to introduce in detail readers with obesity issues, especially with bariatric obesity treatment. Methodology: The monitored group consisted of 11 respondents from the register of bariatric patients of the 3rd internal clinic of the General University Hospital in Prague. For these 11 respondents, changes in fitness based on walking tests and changes in body composition using InBody measurements were evaluated before bariatric surgery and 3 months after surgery. Subsequently, from these 11 respondents, 5 respondents were selected, in whom it was...

Mlynčár, Filip ; Forišek Paulová, Petronela (advisor) ; Matoulek, Martin (referee)
Introduction: Despite advances in the treatment of obesity, lifestyle intervention remains a key element of therapy. Successful weight loss requires increase in physical activity and modifications of dietary patterns, leading to a negative energy balance. This process requires time, patience, and the expertise of a multidisciplinary team. Nutrition therapist provides patients with obesity individualized dietary recommendations tailored to their health status and current living conditions. Regular nutritional intervention significantly contributes to higher success rates in weight reduction and maintanence of weight loss and dietary and exercise habits. Objectives: The aim of this study is to demonstrate the positive effects of a comprehensive lifestyle intervention program on body parameters and dietary habits in study population of patients over a three-month period. The effects of this program will be evaluated by comparing the body parameters with a control group of patients from the clinical study, who did not undergo this intervention. TIR increased (68 ± 15 % vs. 75 ± 15 %; p<0.0001), other parameters showed a positive decrease - HbA1c (57 ± 11 mmol/mol vs. 50...
Nutrition and movement among patients with dementia in > nursing homes
Mesl, Jan ; Matoulek, Martin (advisor) ; Živný, Jan (referee)
Not only the ageing population, but also the pitfalls of the current lifestyle represented by high caloric intake and negligible physical activity lead to a significant increase in civilisation diseases, the most prominent of which are obesity, type 2 diabetes and hypertension. All of these, but not exclusively, contribute to the rise in neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia. This bachelor's thesis deals with the nutritional status and physical fitness of clients with dementia syndrome in a residential care home (one of the types of residential social care facility). The aim of the thesis was to perform nutritional screening, obtain body mass composition values and assess the nutritional status of this group of people. Another aim was to assess the physical fitness status and muscle volume. The research was conducted in the beginning of 2023 (from January to April) among the clients of the residential facility in the Home Velké Březno near Ústí nad Labem. Self- managing clients with different degrees of dementia syndrome were included in the research. A total of 31 people participated in the research, 25 women and 6 men with an average age of 79 years. Each participant underwent a standardized nutritional MNA screening, body mass composition was measured using the InBody S10 device, and...
Obesity and sleep apnea syndrome
Havrdová, Kateřina ; Matoulek, Martin (advisor) ; Svačina, Štěpán (referee)
Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by repeated, complete or partial, obstructions of upper respiratory tract while asleep with accompanied apneic pauses. Interruption of ventilation and the subsequent waking reactions cause fragmented and low-quality sleep in the long term and the simultaneous decline in oxygen saturation of hemoglobin causes development of intermittent hypoxia, which leads to serious complications in patients with sleep apnea. One of the most important etiopathogenic factors in development of obstructive sleep apnea is obesity, mainly central and android obesity. It is estimated that obese patients with BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2 suffer from OSA in over 40-60 % cases and 70 % of patients with OSA are obese. According to current findings, both the maladies influence each other and form a positive feedback loop, which further complicates the whole situation. Aim: The aim of this thesis is to describe the relationship between obesity and obstructive sleep apnea on a set of patients, who were hospitalized in department D3 of III. Internal clinic of Všeobecná fakultní nemocnice v Praze (General university hospital in Prague) for suspicions for diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea. The main tasks of the practical part of this thesis were to try to find a correlation...
