Changes of selected surface water geochemistry parameters in relation to rainfall-runoff regime
Bartůšek, Adam ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Havlíková, Petra (referee)
This work deals with the study of changes in the geochemistry of surface waters in relation to the rainfall-runoff regime and its transformation. As rainfall-runoff extremes such as long episodes of drought with low flows or, conversely, high flows caused by extreme rainfall events have been increasing in recent years, it is important to understand how these phenomena affect water quality. Therefore, the main objectives of this work are firstly a literature search on the changes in surface water geochemistry during change of climate and precipitation-runoff regime and methods that can be used to quantify these changes, and then the application of some of these methods to the analysis of selected parameters and their changes in the Klíčava catchment. In addition to some climatic characteristics and flow rates, the analysis included basic parameters of geochemistry (flow rate, water temperature), physicochemical parameters (electrolytic conductivity, pH), some nutrients (forms of nitrogen and phosporus) and indicators of organic pollution and stream cleanliness (BOD5, CODCr, TOC and dissolved oxygen). In addition, the status and evolution of concentrations of some herbicide metabolites were briefly assessed. For data analysis, e.g. box plots, Mann-Kendall test, correlation coefficients or linear...
PPCP in water and their influence on water ecosystems
Bláhová, Marie ; Fuksa, Josef (advisor) ; Matoušková, Milada (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to identify the main representatives of a wide group of Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCP for short) and to explain the reasons why they pose an increasing risk to aquatic ecosystems. In the theoretical part, the work is devoted to defining the concept of PPCP and explaining the main reasons why their concentration in the aquatic environment has been growing steadily in recent decades. It also deals with the division into the main groups of preparations found in the aquatic environment, their characteristics, documented impacts on aquatic organisms and currently detected concentrations in the world's rivers. In the following chapters, the thesis addresses the issue of the effectiveness of the removal of these substances and the mechanisms by which they can be improved. The work briefly summarizes the effects on the organisms caused by both bioaccumulation and endocrine disruption and at the end of the theoretical part deals with the properties of ten selected drugs, which are regularly detected in Czech rivers. The practical part evaluates the volume of sales of ten drugs in the Czech Republic during 2019, their detected concentrations in the rivers Vltava, Elbe, Morava and Dyje and processing these data to assess the risk of concentrations found for...
Ecohydrological survey of streams in urban and suburban landscape. Case study of the Vinor Brook.
Koubková, Lenka ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Benešová, Libuše (referee)
Ecohydrological survey of streams in urban and suburban landscape. Case study of the Vinoř Brook. Abstract This thesis deals with a ecohydrological survey of the Vinoř Brook which was seriously environmentally burdened in the 90s of the 20th century. The ecological status is determined by the assessment of runoff regime, surface water quality, sediment contamination and ecomorphological survey. Data was compiled by the field survey and measurements. Discharges were measured by the hydrometric propeller. The water quality was determined based on the analysis of physico-chemical parameters. The most problematic are compounds of nitrogen. The highest concentration of nitrate and ammonia nitrogen was measured on the upper stream of the Vinoř Brook in the profile No. 1. This profile is influenced by the outlet of the sewage wastewater treatment plant in Kbely. In order to find the old anthropogenic pollution of bottom sediments with heavy metals and arsenic in the vicinity of Biologický pond, sediments from this location were sampled and content of each element was determined by ICP OES method. Subsequently a comparative analysis was made with previous surveys. The observed concentrations of heavy metals and arsenic in sediments in the...
Impact of stream and floodplain modification on the flood effects.
Rettichová, Zuzana ; Langhammer, Jakub (advisor) ; Matoušková, Milada (referee)
The thesis deals with evaluation of the Volyňka river network modification on the basis of field survey, and identification of critical stream segments, which may influence course of flood events by means of GIS analysis. Two extreme floods took place in the Volyňka river basin in the years 2002 and 2009. The paper evaluates causes, course of events and effects of the floods. To get information about river network modification the HEM-F fiels survey methodology was used. The whole stream of Volyňka river was investigated from its spring to Volyně town, the tributaries in the upper part of the Volyňka river basin and the stream Spůlka. Intensity of stream modificatin and flood effects character were evaluated and critical sections were indentified on the basis of the mapping results. The potential flow obstacles are the most frequent type of critical modification of the stream. Especially the unsufficiently designed bridges, weirs and culverts cause the most intensive damage and geomophological effects of the flood. Individual kinds of obstacles are typical for certain sections of the river flow. Modifications limitating use of retention potential of the floodplain are often present in the central and lower parts of the Volyňka river basin. In several critical stream segments there were proposed...
Assessment of physical habitat quality as a basis for restoration of the Klíšský Brook
Vrška, Jaroslav ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Kliment, Zdeněk (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on the issue of evaluating changes in physical habitat and possible revitalization of Klíšský stream. The bachelor's thesis uses the method of hydroecological monitoring HEM (Langhammer 2014), according to which the evaluation and presentation of the results of field research was performed. The research part of the thesis briefly summarizes the current knowledge in the field of hydromorphology. Furthermore, the research part focuses on current knowledge dealing with the evaluation of the effects of revitalization measures. The current state of the Klíšský brook is described and on the basis of the obtained data, data are collected as a basis for a possible revitalization study of selected sections of the stream. The negative anthropogenic influences acting on the given locality are also summarized. The performed hydromorphological survey and further analyzes are the basis material for further preparation of individual complex revitalization measures. Keywords: hydromorphology, fluvial-morphological characteristics, channel route, riparian belt, flood plain, restoration, restoration efect
Hydromorphological survey and identification of reference status of the Jizera River
Tomšová, Zuzana ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Ferbar, Petr (referee)
Long-term and intensive human use of watercourses has led to their considerable degradation. Recently, there has been an effort to improve the ecological status of aquatic ecosystems, based on studies of hydromorphological characteristics of natural watercourses and identification of reference conditions. The aim of this thesis was the hydromorphological survey and an identification of reference conditions of the Jizera River. The selection of sites suitable for identification of reference status was based on pre-set criteria determined on remote sensing data, which eliminated significant anthropogenic impacts on the channel and floodplain. The survey using River Habitat Survey (Environmental Agency, 2003), Hydroecological Monitoring (Langhammer et al., 2014) and REFCON (Šmerousová a Matoušková, 2014a) methods was conducted in selected sites. Sites where hydromorphological conditions correspond with very good class, according to Hydroecological Monitoring, were used for identification of the type-specific reference conditions. Physico-chemical characteristics according to ČSN 757221 (1998) and Rosendorf et al. (2011) and the biological quality element macroinvertebrates according to Opatřilová et al. (2011) were also evaluated. Physico-chemical characteristics reached class I - II (ČSN, 1998) and...
Ecological survey and assessment of streams within European Standards. Application in the Rolava River basin.
Beranová, Zuzana ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Kliment, Zdeněk (referee)
This thesis deals with implementation of Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) in the Czech Republic. The study area was the Rolava River basin in the Ore Mountains (northwest of Bohemia). The ecological status assessment was applied to both - the main stream and relevant tributaries. Available hydrobiological and hydrochemical data enhanced with the field hydromorphological survey using the Hydroecological monitoring (HEM, Langhammer, 2007) were applied in this thesis. Results of the field survey were compared with two ecomorphological methods: LAWA-FS (LAWA, 2000) and EcoRivHab (Matoušková, 2003, 2007). As a final result, it was found out the water body on upper course of the Rolava River achieved good ecological status. Water body on lower course of the Rolava River and of the tributary the Nejdecký Brook were classified as not achieving good ecological status. The Rolava catchment has very specific conditions and huge potential to achieve the good status in the future.
Impact of fluvial-morphological macrostructrus on the physical habitat of streams.
Strachota, Pavel ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Křížek, Marek (referee)
This thesis main goal is to nd the main parameters describing fluvial-morphological macrostructures due physical habitat of streams on example study of Zlatý potok stream and Mandát stream. To perform this study was used technique of neural network. Neural network method make possible to make both qualitative and quantitative survey of particular parameters and their weights. Fundamental data used for this thesis was got by mapping regions of interest with two ecohydromorphological methods EcoRivHab and RHS. Information about physical habitat of mapped streams was realized from map's basis (ZABAGED) and by mapping (e.g. valley relief by laser gradiometer, bed loads). Data processing was realized in two parts. In the first part the regions of interest were quali ed to both of the methods. Neural network was seeded by data from mapping of the Zlatý potok stream. In the second part results of mapping for all of the streams were compared by technique of neural network. This way it was possible to evaluate di erences among natural parts of streams in geographically di erent areas and also major and minor parameters both of the used methods for mappings.
