Education as a tool for improving the quality of seniors' life

This bachelor's work focuses on education of elderly people, especially whether education influences the quality of their lives. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part summarises the findings of three thematic parts (old age and getting old, quality of life and the meaning of education for quality of life of elderly people) based on foreign and Czech literature. The work inspects the process of ageing and old age by using appropriate resources, it also inspects this issue from the demographic point of view, the role of international organisations concerning ageing issues, quality of life term definition, its dimensions, models and measurements. Then the work defines the concept of active ageing and deals with its determinants, the importance of education for a quality of life in old age, purpose of education of the elderly, its specifics and educational possibilities in the Czech Republic. The other empirical part focuses on quantitative correlation between satisfaction and education of the elderly people, areas of their interests and reasons for not participating in educational activities. The Concept of Educator's Role in American Pragmatist Philosophy and Theory of Education

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze and comment general and exercisable findings of the pragmatist approach to education about educator's role. First, the most important ideas of the pragmatist philosophers are summarized. Next, the approach of pragmatism to education is introduced, and an analysis of the pragmatist thoughts regarding educator's role follows. The thesis has found certain similarity between the concept of school teacher's role and that of adult educator in works of Dewey, Lindeman, and Mezirow. The features, that agree or correspond to each other in these concepts, and conversly those that differ, were described. The main ambition of the thesis is, that it identifies important ideas for educator's role and work, and puts them in context. Factors Affecting Effective Teaching of Adults

This diploma thesis deals with various factors affecting effective teaching of adults from teacher's perspective. The aim of this work is to determinate discrepancy of attitude to this issue based on knowledge from literature and professional teacher's experience. First of all the thesis defines term (effective) teaching of adults and then presents its key aspects. Then it identifies the nature of teaching objectives, (andro)didactic principles and defines main characteristics and competencies of an effective teacher in this context. The thesis also describes impact of learning environment on effective teaching and characterizes (study) stress as well as its impact on effective teaching adults. The current employing situation of people with disabilities in the Czech Republic

This diploma thesis deals with the employment of disabled people in the Czech Republic. There is also a description of foreign systems of the employment of disabled people, concretely in the Federal Republic of Germany and in the United Kingdom. After the descriptive part of individual systems, there is their comparison and the choice of working elements from abroad which could improve the Czech system. Then, the thesis includes orientation questionnaire survey, which focuses on the level of foreknowledge and orientation of HR specialists in the area of the employment of disabled people in the Czech Republic.
Participation of the Elderly in Education in the Context of Demographic Aging

This bachelor thesis is focused on participation of the elderly in the context of demographical ageing. The area of interest is introduced in the first part - ageing and old age, elderly education, demographical ageing, functions and significances of elderly education and educational institutions. This part is based on Czech and foreign professional literature and documents. The second part contains data concerning participation of the elderly in educational activities and an empirical survey. The survey deals with the participation of the elderly in educational activities. Also barriers, motivation and opinions of the elderly about the offer of educational activities were researched. Competency model for theatre acting profession

My thesis discusses competencies necessary for the profession of a stage actor and requirements and demands on such professionals. The aim of my thesis is creation of generic competency model of the profession of a stage actor, which could be useful to drama oriented theatre organizations in the Czech Republic. The thesis approaches the topic of competencies and competency approach in human resources and focuses on selected acting theories. On such theoretical foundations the competencies are identified through expert panel method and the generic competency model of acting profession is assembled. The Problem of Individual Freedom in Rogers'Approach to Education

This Bachelor's thesis covers the topic of freedom of an individual in the process of education, which American psychologist Carl Ransom Rogers (1902-1987) elaborated in his work. His person-centered approach, originally introduced as a psychotherapeutic concept, was applied in education later in 1960's and had, above all, an impact on adult education and learning. In the Czech Republic, though, Rogers's work is mainly understood in the context of psychotherapy. Therefore, this Bachelor's thesis addresses the less known area of Rogers's approach as applied in adult education and deals with it from the point of view of the philosophy of education. This thesis understands the related topics of the definition of roles of the educating and the educated, the meaning of personal experience, authenticity, freedom and self-actualization possibilities in the education process as the cornerstones of Rogers's concept of ideal education. Using the findings of the psychology of personality and pragmatic approach to education, the thesis discusses the most important findings and disputable points of Rogers's way of thinking.
Education of older adults in the area in of new media

In the paper characterized were chosen, most important determinants of educating seniors in the matter of new media. Learning and teaching of seniors were depicted through "non-formal system" created by Universities of Third Age (U3A). Actions of teacher and adult students connected with the effective learning about possibilities connected with new media discussed were in following dimensions: social changes, transformations of education of people in late adulthood, individual features of seniors and institutional and theoretical solutions in the matter of andragogy and educational gerontology. The book also contains a chapter in which described were transformations of society by new media and causes and results of digital exclusion among seniors. The crucial part of the paper is a practical answer to the question, how to educate seniors in "non-formal education system" in the matter of electronic media? To achieve this, presented was a complex methodical proposition derived from andragogical and geragogical theories with a reference to didactic practice of the author in computer sections of universities of third age. The consideration is supplemented by last chapter depicting functions and meaning of geragogics in U3A. In the described paper, attention was paid to the aspect of senior education...
Analysis of the concept of education Prison Service employees in the the Czech Republic

The presented dissertation focuses on the educational system o f the Czech Republic Prison service staff and on the proposal o f the new educational module called Penitentiary Pedagogy for special educationalists and trainers of the Prison Service o f the Czech Republic. This dissertation describes education, from compulsory entry education within the new staff Basic Preparation Entry program up to specialized courses in the Program o f Lifelong Education. These are established for all Prison service staff according to their official position. Currently the humanization trends are markedly preferred in the detention conception (including remand detention) within the Czech prison system. The inmate is treated not only according to the European Prison Rules principals, but also according to the professional ethic rules, human fairness and in particular access and use o f special pedagogy knowledge, special pedagogy diagnostics, forensic psychology and other related branches o f science. The staff must be excellently prepared to carry out their duties in such specific conditions in the prisons while complying with the above-mentioned new approach. Training in cognitive functions for adults with psychotic disorders

This work focuses on the training in cognitive functions for adults with psychotic disorders and it deals with this topic, also known as cognitive remediation therapy (CRT), within the framework of andragogy. The aim of this work is to examine the process of CRT for adults with psychotic disorders and the potential contributions for the participants. The first part presents the theoretical foundations related to psychotic disorders and the deficit of cognitive functions, as well as the particularities of CRT, such as different attitudes to the training, its didactic perspective and its effect. The empirical part surveys what contributions CRT had for the participants and whether it was effective. This part describes a qualitative inquiry using a data analysis based on interviews with participants in CRT for adults with psychotic disorders who underwent the training in the Green Doors facility, the Modré dveře therapeutic centre or the Psychiatric Centre Prague. The assessment of the empiric survey focuses on the recommendations that could help achieve better results in CRT and that could involve specialists from the field of adult education in the training.
