This thesis deals with an approach of Great Britain, France, Germany and the United States to the winter war. A military conflict between Finland and the Soviet Union, which began without any declaration of war on 30th November 1939 and ended by the Moscow peace treaty on 13th March 1940. The aim of this thesis is to analyze power interests and motivation of mentioned great powers in ongoing crisis. To Some Issues Uranium Extraction in Post War Czechoslovakia
Rakouš, Pavel ; Litera, Bohuslav (advisor) ; Lomíček, Jan (referee)
Post-war supply of uranium from Czechoslovakia was USSR's fastest way of obtaining the material necessary to catch up on the advantage of USA in the nuclear arms race. The Central European state, outwardly still democratic (although already strongly left- wing at the time), was forced into cooperation by agreement signed in November 1945. Social democratic minister of industry Laušman was the only qualified member of cabinet present at the negotiation. He displayed his ability to oppose the Communists, even though until recently he has been considered an ally to the regime by historians, largely for his positive attidute towards nationalisation. The thesis shows that the Soviets were unable to obtain a monopoly on Czechoslovakian mining according to their wishes, but still dictated the volume of exploitation and the pricing and gradually transformed the joint commision conducting the mining into an official authority. Uranium mining turned into self-reliant industry which became a burden for the state, concealed at first and admitted later. Analysis of data until 1989 proves that the industry was regularly unprofitable. The totalitarian regime kept everything secret. First information became available at the begining of the 1990s, but historiography at the time concerned itself primarily with the...

The Evolution of the EU's Strategic Thinking in Relation to Russia: The Factor of the Eastern Enlargement of the European Union
Gusačenko, Irina ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Litera, Bohuslav (referee)
This paper examined the development of the Strategic thinking of the European Union towards Russia from the beginning of the 1990 s till 2004. The paper recognized the existence of the three main strategies: bilateral one, multilateral and special one. The first strategy is characterized by giving the priority directly to the relationship between Russia and the member states of the EU. The Russian Federation neglected the existence of the European Union as an independent actor on the international scene during the 90 s. The specific example of such a behavior could be the relationship between Russia and Germany. This fact makes it more difficult for the EU to promote the coherent strategy of the European Union as a whole towards Russia. Due to the disgruntlement and frequent clashes between Russia and the EU, the two entities decided to use the so called special strategy in their relations. This strategy is based namely on the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and on the Concept of the Four Common Spaces which began to be developed in 2000. The Union's eastern enlargement paved the way for the qualitative change in the strategic thinking of the European Union. Polish government proposed new concept, so called "Eastern dimension" of the European Union. This initiative gave the impulses for the evolution...

Energy policy of the EU towards Russia: 2000-2013
Koutník, Jan ; Litera, Bohuslav (advisor) ; Svoboda, Karel (referee)
The interdependence of the EU and Russia in the energy sector led to the establishment of "EU-Russia Energy Dialogue" in 2000. Since its formation the Dialogue had to face various external influences, including two Russia-Ukraine gas disputes in 2006 and 2009 during which the gas supplies to the EU were interrupted. The Bachelor's thesis examines, how the Dialogue answered to the consequences of the gas crises. Firstly this paper analyses the development of the Dialogue between 2000 and 2013, as well as the impacts of the two crises. The reactions of the Dialogue to the crises are presented by the comparison of the Dialogues work before and after they occurred. The author concludes that although there were some responses, EU and Russia didn't manage to sufficiently resolve the most challenging issues, including the ongoing problems with the transit states and the energy infrastructure security.
