Dropout of college students
Havrdová, Alžběta ; Kasíková, Hana (advisor) ; Valenta, Josef (referee)
The issue of quality of higher education is not clearly defined. One of the indicators may be the dropout rate. Not much research has been done on this topic, especially systematic and long-term ones, in the Czech Republic. However, the demand shows the urgency and importance of dealing with the phenomenon, both in terms of quality and financing or development of universities. The research focuses on students' subjective reasons for leaving university during the covid period. The results are presented using a coding analysis that was collected in the focus group. Six students (from six universities) who had their own experience with dropout took part in it. The results are grounded in theory and are compared with previous research results from Czech universities. The theory provides an insight not only into an academic failure, but also into the transition between high school and university, the quality of higher education, understanding the needs of the student and the possibilities of higher education policy.
