What Is (Not) Talked About. An Analysis of Political Discourse of Care During Covid Pandemic
Homfray, Šárka ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (advisor) ; Kolářová, Kateřina (referee)
The thesis examines the political discourse on informal care during the first four pandemic waves from March 2020 to February 2022. The study explores three main themes: crisis care allowance, distance learning, and the position of single parents in the pandemic. The author uses critical discursive analysis methods, as developed by Norman Fairclough, to identify prevalent images and themes of informal care in political discourse. The analysis also assesses the degree to which informal care has been gendered and the interconnections between political discourse and other discourses, such as journalistic and expert discourses. Finally, the conclusion of the thesis provides an evaluation of the effects of the discourse analysed and assesses the political representation of informal carers.
Intersectional Analysis of the Climate Justice Movement: Austrian Visions for Climate Justice
Nebeská, Véronique Ananké ; Kolářová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
Intersectional Analysis of the Climate Justice Movement: Austrian Visions for Climate Justice Abstract This thesis examines the underlying concepts behind climate justice as perceived by the members of the Austrian climate justice movement, as well as to what extent these concepts are intersectional. The goal of the research was to unravel the activists' understanding of climate justice, both as a theoretical concept and as a lived reality. It applies an intersectional perspective while drawing on feminist research when ascertaining how the category of gender as well as other social categorisations such as those of class, social status, race etc. are approached by the movement. Ultimately, visions and utopias for a climate just world are employed as a tool to outline how climate justice would look like on the individual, the collective, and the global level. Keywords: climate justice, intersectionality, gender, ecofeminism
"MAKE THEM PAY YOU WHAT THEY WOULD PAY A WHITE MAN": intersectional feminist analysis of the book The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
Smolíková, Eva ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
In this diploma thesis I analyze the book The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo from intersectional feminist point of view. The author of this book is Taylor Jenkins Reid, 1st edition came out in 2017 and became popular thanks to not only social media. In the first part of my thesis I focus on overview of theory and methodology, which I work with later, such as intersectionality, gender, race, sexuality. In this context I am interested in theorizing the concepts of male gaze, female gaze and toxic and healthy masculinity. I also focus on literature and feminism and the portrayal of femininity in literature. In the analytical part of my diploma thesis, I analyze characters chronologically using the original structure of the book. My interest in analysis is in the construction of gender, race and sexuality. I focus on how the author constructs sexual and gender identity in concrete historical as well as social context and how are relationships of the main heroine constructed in this context. Key words: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, stereotypes, gender, race, sexuality, power, resistant reading
The Voices of Victimhood and Survivorship
Hoffman, Mitchell ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (advisor) ; Pavlík, Petr (referee)
Sexual violence imprints noticeable marks on a victim (and later, survivor) throughout the person's life. Experiences of victimhood and survivorship prove challengingly intangible in a discursive landscape of denial, appropriation, invalidation, and dismissal. The Voices of Victimhood and Survivorship takes the firsthand testaments of selected victims and survivors of sexual violence and analyzes how these cases reflect the inequal dynamics of power over their own stories. Pertinent to this analysis are the disciplines of: rhetorical studies, media studies, English studies, criminology, law, victimology studies, psychology, and violence philosophy- all collaborating interdisciplinarity in the interest of a feminist hermeneutic. These disciplines synthesize the key concepts and theories to be discussed, including the meaning of voice, victimhood, survivorship, the contexts in which these discourses are produced, and how the medium and setting influence voice. Selected accounts-a judicial victim impact statement, a memoir, and an investigative documentary interview-serve as the primary texts upon which these theories comment. The thesis seeks to characterize the meaning and profile of language and power, and to cartograph the journeys of victims into survivors by means of using their voices for...

Jules Lighuen Rodríguez Cantero Mgr. Tereza Jiroutová Kynčlová, Ph.D through which we could bring change. I suggest that, through Tijoux's music, we may find an principales dentro de la música de protesta hispanohablante.
Feminist Electrifying Art as Challenging People to (Re)think Their Relationship to Electricity
Chauvette, Daphnée ; Lorenz - Meyer, Dagmar (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
Feminist Electrifying Art as Challenging People to (Re)think Their Relationship to Electricity Abstract The need for decarbonization of energy production and the war in Ukraine has emphasized European's dependency over Russian oil and accelerated attention to the issues of the energy crisis in Europe. In Quebec, as electricity is powered mainly from hydropower, decarbonization has evaded proper considerations forgetting how this invasive energy production comes from and benefit settler colonialism. The pressing needs to address the energy crisis highlights its complexity and ongoing (mis)conceptions of electricity and its system within the general population. Electrical anthropologists have problematized western societies' understanding and conception of electricity as essential to (re)think our energy futures. Through an analysis of two case studies based on works of electrical art created by two women artists, this thesis analyzes how these works of art potentially challenge male dominant STEM practices by attending to the complexities and interconnectedness of electricity, its system, and the environment. The thesis argues that participants/listeners/viewers are challenged in their relationship to electricity (and its system) towards more responsible and response-able approaches. Drawing on feminist...
Gender-sensitive analysis of the novel Praskliny
Halíř, Pavel ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (advisor) ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (referee)
The thesis entitled Gender Sensitive Analysis of the novel Praskliny looks into the representation of symbolic and discursive violence in a selected literary text by a Czech author from the perspective of gender analysis. Klára Vlasáková's novel Praskliny (Cracks) is set in a fantasy world with despotic elements, where individual heroes and heroines deal with the fundamental contradiction caused by internalized social norms with the way the protagonists themselves experience them. The analysis of the work is carried out in the context of feminist literary theories, whose main methodological and theoretical themes are the concept of a woman as nature by Sherry B. Ortner, symbolic violence by Pierre Bourdieu, and the concept of the connection between water and a woman by Z. Kalnická.
Gender analysis of the development of the characters "M" and Moneypenny from the James Bond film series
Vyoral, Jaroslav ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (advisor) ; Kolářová, Kateřina (referee)
In my thesis write about gender analysis of development of characters "M " and Moneypenny from James Bond, Her Majesty's Agent, film series. Film series is representing James Bond as executive power which is maintaining Status Quo of imperial force - Great Britain. From aspect of gender, there is no change in film character, except last movies where was acting Daniel Craig. In his acting main character appears humanized, there is a change in perceiving masculinity and in behavior towards women. The characters of "M" and Moneypenny are changing through whole film series and developing a lot of gender changes according to geopolitics and social changes. These changes I will examine through feminist analysis based on concept of power, aspects of patriarchy power structure according to imperialistic ideas and changes of these principles in process of confrontation with feminism.
