Hána, Petr ; Jirásková, Věra (referee) ; Havlůjová, Hana (referee)
1950s may be classified as one of the worst periods in Czechoslovakia's history. The totalitarian communist regime in the period between 1948 and 1953 is called the Stalinism. The primary objective hereof was to evaluate teaching about the Stalinism period in Czechoslovakia in secondary schools, in particular, to assess the scope of correctness and completeness of the related curriculum and teaching methods. The secondary objective hereof was to introduce and describe the Stalinism as a typical example of totalitarianism and to define crucial elements of this non-democratic form of government using the example of Czechoslovakia from 1948 to 1953. The thesis proceeds from the theoretical part via a case study to the practical part. The first part classifies totalitarianism, defines its historical outset and determines its main features. The second chapter describes and explains the Stalinism, which is a typical example of totalitarianism having functioned in practice in the Soviet Union from where it spread to the majority of the Communist countries, including Czechoslovakia. The third chapter explains the practical application of the Stalinism elements and methods used to control a society according to the Soviet model using the example of Czechoslovakia from 1948 to 1953. The practical part hereof focuses...

Vagenknecht, Milan Kristian ; Antoš, Marek (advisor) ; Jirásková, Věra (referee)
United States Supreme Court case law on campaign finance The diploma thesis deals with the development of US Supreme Court case law on the issue of electoral campaign finance while paying special attention to the question of the constitutionality of expenditure and contribution limits. Its main goal is to provide a comprehensive analysis of these cases to demonstrate how regulation of campaign finance works there, which is considerably different from systems found not only in the Czech Republic but also in Europe. At the same time, the author focuses primarily on providing insight into the more recent part of American case law, which has significantly loosened the whole regulatory system, especially regarding the financial participation of legal entities in electoral campaigns. The author divides the work into four parts. In the first part, the reader is introduced to the basic institutes and concepts that relate to the American campaign finance law and then compares them with their Czech counterparts in order to facilitate the understanding of the following three parts, which already cover the concrete cases. In particular, it analyzes various concepts of corruption. This part also deals with de lege ferenda issues, i.e., the effectiveness of the financial limits imposed on candidates that run for...
Funding of Political Parties: An International comparison
Martinek, Jan ; Antoš, Marek (advisor) ; Jirásková, Věra (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to compare the current legal regulations of political party funding across selected EU countries and to formulate de lege ferenda proposals, based on the "good practice" in these countries, for the construction of state contributions and for the regulation of private financing of political parties in the Czech Republic. The author first presents the basic problems related to public and private financing of political parties. He describes how the financing of political parties has changed over time, what are the advantages and disadvantages of private and public financing, what principles govern both approaches to financing, and how to find a balance between them. While private funding has existed in various forms for as long as political parties, the origins of public funding in Europe date back to the 1950s. The share of public funding in political parties' income has gradually increased, which has reduced many of the problems associated with private funding, and often contributed to more equal electoral chances, but on the other hand, new problems have emerged, in theory associated, for example, with the concept of the cartel party. In the second part of the thesis, the author compares the current legal regulation of public and private financing of political parties in...

A Comparison of Curricular Materials in Regards to the Teaching of Civics in the Czech Republic and in the USA
Rádlová, Magdaléna ; Havlínová, Ivana (advisor) ; Jirásková, Věra (referee)
This diploma thesis is a comparative study of Czech and American curricular documents concerning the educational reform that is taking place both in the Czech Republic and the United States of America. By comparing the documents I have tried to find strengths and weaknesses of both reforms and educational systems in general and suggest some means of improvements in areas where I found it useful. I was comparing the documents on more different levels: In the first chapter I was concentrating on two acts as the bases of the educational reforms: No Child Left Behind in the USA and Národní program rozvoje vzdělávání v České republice [National program of educational development in the Czech Republic] in the Czech Republic. The second chapter is dealing with the national curricular frameworks, and is comparing the Czech national framework to Michigan Curriculum Framework. The third chapter is concerned with schools' own curricula, and with the recommended ways how to develop them in both countries. As this thesis is aimed at area social studies and at civic education particularly, the next chapter compares the content standards and benchmarks of both frameworks. In the practical part of this diploma thesis I described the project that I carried out at middle school Vinařská in Ústí nad Labem in the Czech...

Way of thinking by philosopher - dissident Bohumir Janat
Zemanová, Kristýna ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor) ; Jirásková, Věra (referee)
Dissertation "A thought journey of a philosopher-disident Bohumír Janát" deals with the life and work of a Christian philosopher and spokesman of Charter 77. The work is not divided into two parts, but each chapter includes both his personal and professional life as well as analysis of Janáts texts. The work begins with Janáts childhood and his studies at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in Prague and continues with the period from graduation until the year 1989 when his texts already contain motifs he was developing for the rest of his life. Year 1988 was particularly important as at this time he was the spokesman for Charter 77. The third section is the period from 1989 to Janáts death in November 1998 when he produced most of his work. The work is especially pointing out that Bohumir Janát was always a critic of present, he ran against the spirit of the time - during and even after a totalitarian regime end in November 1989. He saw the coup as a revelation of God's power, not as a revolution. He hoped for a change in the mindset of the nation, for a turnover to the sphere of ethics and spiritual deepening. Post- revolutionary development, however, was a deep disappointment for him. His inspiring thinkers were S. Dunne, H. D. Thoreau, T. G. Masaryk and F. Nietzsche, whose philosophy...
