An Insight into Selected Violin Teaching Methods in the Online Environment

The aim of this thesis is to outline issues of violin teaching within the online environment and propose an insight into selected violin teaching methods presented on the online platforms. The thesis focuses not only on renowned violinists, such as Nicola Benedetti, Yehudi Menuhin, Itzhak Perlman or Augustin Hadelich, but also on less famous violinists with a wide range of experience from the field of violin education and interpretation. Apart from the insight into teaching methods of Nicola Benedetti and Yehudi Menuhin, this thesis also proposes more detailed view on their lives and artistic careers. Also, the thesis includes an assessment of a questionnaire survey focused on a use of online platforms within a violin teaching or violin study/self-study. The Path of Creativity with the Violin

This diploma thesis focuses on musical creativity and some possible ways to develop and cultivate it. It comments on Czech violin teaching materials from the point of view of developing creativity. It gives examples of instructional materials for learning other musical instruments which could be an inspiration for fostering musical creativity. In the practical part, it presents eleven creative worksheets (tvořilisty) designed to cultivate creativity in violinists during the early stages of violin learning and throughout their violin studies. The practical section also includes creative cards (tvořikartičky), which are a versatile tool for working with musical expression. The Hurdy Gurdy Lesson at Art School

The thesis focuses on playing the hurdy gurdy and materials dealing with this theme. The work first presents the historical background of this musical instrument, its development, mechanics and possibilities of the instrument. Furthermore, it processes and compares the literature available for players dealing with the topic of playing the hurdy gurdy. The main content of the work is the creation of methodical material for playing the hurdy gurdy suitable as an aid for teaching in the Art school environment, as well as study material for self-taught students. This material contains the necessary information that a player needs to know during the beginnings of the hurdy gurdy playing, i.e., information starting with the functions of the individual parts of the instrument, through the adjustment and maintenance of the instrument to the explanation of the playing the instrument itself separately for the right- and left-hand technique. It also includes sheet music with a repertoire of widely played pieces on the hurdy gurdy. The benefit of the methodology is also the Czech language in which it is written, which can supplement the necessary, but currently missing information about playing this instrument in the Czech environment. Formative evaluation and its use in music pedagogical practice at the first stage of elementary school

The diploma thesis deals with formative evaluation in music lessons at the first stage of elementary schools. The theoretical part defines the concept of evaluation of pupils at the first stage of elementary schools and various types of evaluation. Further deals with music psychology, musical abilities and skills. One chapter is devoted to the analysis of the Rámcový vzdělavací program základního vzděláván in terms of the required outcomes in music education. The theoretical part is concluded by the definition of formative evaluation and evaluation in music education. The practical part of the work consists of a questionnaire examining formative evaluation in music education at the first stage of elementary schools. The questionnaire finds out in what form the formative evaluation is performed and how often. Whether schools use it for evaluation in music education and how their formative evaluation corresponds to the outputs of the RVP ZV in music education. Intonation and Voice Education and Its Importance in Practice of Flute Studies.

The objective of this paper is to summarize the influence if intonation and vocal education on musical perception and intonational skills of musicians, and to analyze its benefits to the flute players. For example, it describes how these educations helps tuning, proper and correct breathing, formation of a tone and developing better musical images. Following research shows how this discipline can improve the quality of public performance. It also mentions briefly the flute methodology so the reader is able to understand why is voice so crucial regarding the formation of a tone when playing the flute. All the while, the work will look at parallels and differences between the fields of singing and flute playing, and their connection to intonation education. For the research part of this paper, survey of semi-structured questionnaire and extracted parts of an interview are used. In the survey itself, students and teachers of flute were asked to participate. The research on the overall attitude towards this issue is analyzed on this sample. Further it focuses on whether the students and teachers contemplate the junction of these subjects, and whether they actually use some techniques suggested by current research of this topic. Music and dance afterschool program with elements of clogging for primary school pupils

The diploma thesis focuses on a design of an annual teaching plan for a musical and dancing afterschool program for elementary school students. The aim of the thesis is to present a dance style called "clogging" (American country step) and to present a methodology for teaching its basics, in which emphasis will be placed not only on getting acquainted with elements of this style, but also on the musical development of pupils. The diploma thesis was intended as a possible inspiration for the leaders of dance clubs who aim to teache their pupils not only to dance but to perceive the music sensibly and to work with it as well. It also coul serve as an inspiration for music teachers who would like to make their classes special or devote themselves to leading a musical and dancing afterschool program with an unusual focus. The theoretical part presents the development of children of younger school age, music and movement education and familiarization with the history and basics of clogging technique. The practical part presents the teaching plan of the musical and dancing afterschool program, which consists of a description of eighteen lessons that contain an offer of music and movement activities for one term and include the use of clogging elements.
Folk music in the work of Czech authors

The master's thesis is focused on the presence of folk music and culture in the work of four Czech authors, Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů. In the theoretical part, the composers are introduced in chronological order. The emphasis is put on the key moments and influences that subsequently shaped their relationship to folk music. There is also provided the historical and social context necessary for understanding the topic. Furthermore, there are also stated and described the compositions that are inspired by folk music or use it explicitly. The compositions are stated alongside corresponding sheet music. In the practical part, selected compositions, which were discussed in the theoretical part, are used as material for teaching activities. These activities were created for teaching music education at lower secondary schools. In the activities, accessible folk music is used as a mean to understand more demanding classical music. All activities are tested in pedagogical practice and are therefore provided with a description, goals, methodological commentary, and graphic materials.
The contemporary form of teaching flute in Art scholls

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the current form of teaching the flute in basic art schools. The first chapter introduces six selected methodologies and methodological-textbooks from the Czech and foreign environment. It focuses on the views of various authors on issues related to breath, proof, position while playing, holding the instrument and the use of tone. The second chapter is composed of an analysis of the answers of respondents who participated in the questionnaire survey. Based on the answers of the respondents, it was found that the flute is taught in primary music schools by qualified teachers who do not teach only according to one methodology, but combine several approaches at once. Aspects of the game, such as breath, posture, and instrument holding, are the most relevant. They work mostly with their students on the interpretation of recital compositions and choose classical, piano tutoring. More than half of the respondents perceive the current form of teaching as progressive, and some of them themselves propose changes that would contribute to the quality of teaching.
Flute playing as a group teaching in community school

The diploma thesis deals with group teaching of flute, especially in a community school. The aim of the work was to summarize the already existing materials and in the practical part to perform the experiment directly in the classroom, where the goals and hypotheses for the period were set. The theoretical part summarizes the existing work that deals with this topic. There are also mentioned the possibilities of teaching the flute and a look at group teaching of the instrument in history and today. The next section provides an overview of textbooks that deal with group flute playing and other frequently used titles and their comparison. The next topic is playing an instrument in a music class and also a theory on the topic of alternative and community schools. The practical part contains an introduction to the course of music lessons in the classroom where the research took place. It focused on teaching flute in a specific class. The methods used were experiment and observation. Pupils met the goals set for the semester and learned to play a few notes and songs. Some hypotheses have been confirmed (a better attitude of pupils towards music education if they play an instrument here).
