Razák, Věra ; Nosek, Bedřich (advisor) ; Holubová, Markéta (referee) ; Šafin, Ján (referee)
Destruction of Jerusalem Temple (Treating the Subject in Classic Jewish Texts) Věra Razáková This thesis focuses mainly on texts describing the Temple's very destruction, be it by the Babylonian army in 587 BC or later on by the Roman army in 70 CE. In addition, it also inspects circumstances of the conquer and the destruction of the Temple and the city of Jerusalem immediately preceded. The examined texts are (with some exceptions) the texts of classical rabbinic literature of antiquity. Although there is no doubt about how crucial the event (i. e. the demise of the Temple and the Temple Cult in Judaism) was, its image in the literature is not a massive one. Also, there are mostly individual references on a smaller scale. This is especially true of examining the causes of the destruction of the Temple and Jerusalem. Other mentions in halachic texts are similarly sketchy. Dealing with the changes forced by the extinction of the Temple, the central Temple cult, and Temple sacrificial worship. The main texts of this group are Mishna and Tosefta. The Gemara of the Babylonian (and also Jerusalem) Talmud, and in particular, some selected Midrashim are a much richer source for the subject under scrutiny. Working with Haggadic texts has brought more consistent descriptions of the destruction of the Temple...

99 Summary Buberův kulturní sionismus a Masarykův humanismus - komparativní studie Buber's Cultural Zionism and Masaryk's Humanism - Comparative Study Marie Venclová This thesis deals with various aspects of understanding the term nation, its roots and dimensions in the works of Martin Buber and Tomas Garrigue Masaryk. The comparative study is based on analysis of Buber's Three Addresses on Judaism and Masaryk's Problem of a Small Nation. In these texts the philosophers present their attitudes and ideas about the meaning, origin and content of the existence of a nation. The results of the comparison show, that their points of view are similar in more than a few aspects and what most importantly bonds their ideas is the moral, spiritual and cultural understanding of the meaning of a nation. Furthermore, they both stress the responsibility of each and every individual part of the society for implementing such ideas into practice. Buber's cultural Zionism as well as Masaryk's humanism are also concepts based on critical self-reflection and need of education, which serves to broaden horizons and identify positive values in one's own nation. Motivation for this thesis resided in unique legal position of the Jewish minority in Czechoslovakia after the First World War. Based on the results of the comparison we...
The Theme of Death in Middle Eastern Literary Sources
Ryšavá, Erika ; Nosek, Bedřich (advisor) ; Holubová, Markéta (referee)
This work has led us to the Middle East in the period, when the ideas that later influenced whole European culture, were formed. One of the goals was to show us the situation the Old Testament was formed in. The other goal was to prove the level of influence caused to it by I was interested in a problem of Nation in need of its own identity that was necessary for it to survive. Later canonised thesis, medieval society adored, were just consequences of this process. Different ways in burying corpses, differences in acceptance of either death and life, various imaginations of after-life and evaluation of life on the other side. Other important cultic matter beside the death was taken into account. Not only because of better understanding of that period. Also for an understanding of hu man life in social structure. Clear explanation of how 'Israel' had fought to maintain its own dedication, such different from the rest of the world. On the other hand I admit that I was not successful in transition this theme to the present time.
