Mazanec, Pavel ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Maňák, Vratislav (referee)
The diploma thesis is devoted to the Czechoslovak writer and laureate of the 1984 Nobel Prize for Literature, Jaroslav Seifert. The introductory chapters first present a brief history and ownership background of selected periodicals, which are subsequently used as sources of journalistic texts. Other parts also describe the historical and political context of the defined period of the 1970s and 1980s in the normalized Czechoslovakia. Subsequently, this thesis approaches the life of Jaroslav Seifert with a special emphasis on his later phase after 1968. It is in these chapters that the texts of previously introduced periodicals such as Rudé právo, Tvorba, Vokno, Západ, The New York Times and Le Monde are used extensively. Through commemorative and academic texts or the analysis of journalistic texts, not only the famous Nobel laureate is presented, but also the various ideological and political pressures that the mentioned period brought with it.
Three faces of Parisian bohemian and their portrayal in media
Robotková, Martina ; Novotný, David Jan (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
The thesis entitled "Three faces of Parisian bohemian and their portrayal in media" focuses on the media response to artistic works of three different genres that deal with the theme of Parisian bohemia. Central to the entire work is the French writer Henri Murger, who is recognized as the first Bohemian and a populariser of the concept. His 1851 short story cycle titled Scenes of Bohemian Life narrates the lives of four Parisian artists, capturing their daily struggles and joys. This cycle inspired two Italian opera composers, Giacomo Puccini and Ruggiero Leoncavallo, who at the end of the 19th century introduced their operas of the same name La Bohème. In 1992, Finnish director and screenwriter Aki Kaurismäki chose Murger's stories as a template for his film Bohemian Life. The aim of the thesis is to provide basic knowledge about the individual authors who worked with the theme of Parisian bohemia, and the reception of their works in print and electronic media. The focus is primarily on the similarities and differences in the portrayal of this phenomenon in literature, opera, and film.

The paper first defines cultural journalism and criticism as general genres with linguistic specifics, then focuses on the concept of criticism as an institution and describes the crisis of the critical genre and its form in the digitalized environment of today. Other chapters deal with the precarization of work, a phenomenon during which permanent jobs are replaced by precarious work dependent on part-time and one-off activities, which is central to the Czech and global cultural journalism and its understanding. Female characters in temporary Czech literature from critical perspective
Kubínová, Anna ; Čeňková, Jana (advisor) ; Malý, Radek (referee)
The topic of this thesis are four female literary characters from books penned by contemporary Czech women writers. These characters are Anna Bartáková (novel Do tmy by Anna Bolavá), Birgit Standtherrová (from the book A já pořád kdo to tluče by Radka Denemarková) and the two protagonists of Kateřina Tučková's Bílá voda, sister Evarista, and Lena Lagnerová. The second chapter deals with the concept of literary criticism, ruminates on the purpose of this discipline and its shifting demands, and briefly introduces feminist literary theory. The theoretical part is dedicated to methodology and therefore outlines both the approach chosen in this thesis and the theoretical basis for character analysis. The practical section opens with interpreting opinions and reviews published in Czech media outlets. Special attention is paid to the way their authors think about the selected characters. This thesis then goes on to consider these four protagonists on the basis of the introduced theoretical findings. The goal is to ascertain how contemporary literary critics and review writers see female characters, as well as find out what these characters have in...
