Rights and duties of the owner of agricultural land
Čepelák, Václav ; Damohorský, Milan (advisor) ; Drobník, Jaroslav (referee)
I have chosen the topic of my thesis "Rights and duties of the owner of agricultural land" for the following reasons. First of all I am interested in the status of the owners of agricultural land and generally in the land law. I also consider the relations concerning the agricultural land very important, because agricultural production is a needful way of food supply, hence condition sine qua non for life on Earth. The purpose of my thesis is to analyse the status of the owners of agricultural land in terms of the land law and to examine some of their present issues. The thesis is composed of three parts, each of them dealing with different aspects of the agricultural land ownership. Part One is introductory, it defines basic terminology used in the thesis and describes evolution of agricultural land ownership. It is divided into three subparts. Subpart One defines the concept of ownership in Czech legal order. Subpart Two deals with land ownership and land law. It explains specialities of land and the problems related to it. Subpart Three describes evolution of agricultural land ownership on the Czech territory between years 1918 and 1989 with emphasis on the land ownership in socialistic era contiguous to evolution of law and social situation after the Velvet revolution in 1989. Part Two focuses...
Analysis of biographical narratives using computer-assisted text analysis
Čepelák, Václav ; Hájek, Martin (advisor) ; Soukup, Petr (referee)
Besides the social survey data, texts have been an important source of sociological data since the beginning of the development of sociological methodology. Text analysis methods contain two main branches of development: Bernard Berelson's content analysis and Hans-Georg Gadamer's hermeneutic analysis. Both these methodological branches have been influenced by the development of information technologies in the last twenty years. The thesis presented here deals with one of the methods of computer text analysis (CATA), which stands on the border between these two methodological streams, a method of analyzing words' collocations in texts. The thesis presents the method in the context of other methods of text analysis, and mentions sources of inspiration for further development of these methods - corpus linguistics and text mining. The second part discusses the different steps of words' collocation analysis: building a text corpus, dictionary compilation, calculation of data matrix and visualisation of words' distances using multidimensional scaling (MDS). The method is also applied to a specific data, two text corpora compiled from transcripts of biographical interviews with actors of Czechoslovak normalization - with dissidents and Communist functionaries. Quality of the models is assessed, depending...
Media Image of Russians in Carlsbadˇs press
Čepelák, Václav ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Kubíčková, Vladimíra (referee)
1 Abstract The thesis intends to explore the ways of creating the image of Carlsbad Russians in the mass media. These ways are researched by the quantitative content analysis. The sample for this analysis was constructed by a selection of articles from the years 2006-2010 from the Mediasearch database (provided by Newton Media, Corp.) according to described selection criteria. This analysis is set in the context of various sociological theories (esp. to explain the context of the relationship between the Russian community and local population) and several theories that focus on the functioning of media with a special emphasis on the construction of foreign communities' image. The research shows how the media image of Russians in the Carlsbad press has been stereotypized, to what extent they have been individualized in the articles and with which contextual topics they have been connected most often. Another output of the analysis is a typology which characterizes the basic modes of providing information about the community. Relatively low overall number of articles about the Russians shows the difficulty of access of the community to the media. It is demonstrated that in the two strongest types of articles, building and property ownership is connected with Russians and with cohabitation of the two ethnic...

Strašilová, Eva ; Kabele, Jiří (advisor) ; Čepelák, Václav (referee)
The topic of my thesis is the annual fairs in the Czech Republic with the primary focus on the tradesmen of the traditional craft goods. The thesis is divided in two parts - theoretical and analytical. In the first part, I concentrate on the characteristics of the annual fairs in connection to the research that has been already done on this topic and then I describe a brief historical context of the annual fair.Subsequently, I explicate the methodology of my research. In the research I opted for the method of analysis of documents, the semi- structured interview with the tradesmen of the traditional craft goods and the informal interview. I analyzed 12 websites of annual markets and managed to interview 13 respondents. The second part of my thesis concentrates on the analysis of the respondents' interviews and to the analysis of documents. On the basis of the data analysis I characterized the annual markets based on their traditions, holding period, the availability of the Internet and type organizer. The next section is devoted to the characteristics of the annual fair from the perspective of sellers. I investigated how markets choose how to learn about them, what is the communication between sellers and organizers, who the competition is, the importance of the family and when is the season for...
Reasons of Showing Respect to Seniors: Respect to Heroes or Compassion with the Weak ones?
Terchová, Petra ; Hájek, Martin (advisor) ; Čepelák, Václav (referee)
This thesis deals with the concept of old age and respect towards seniors, which gone through significant change during history and that is the reason why the status of seniors in society has decreased and youth gained prominence. The main goal of this thesis based on qualitative research is to find out the ways of showing respect to seniors and from which reasons it is so, while the accent is kept on perception of respect by four age generations. Observations and interviews revealed a discovery of typology of seniors and non-seniors, two forms of respect and four reasons of showing respect. The two main reasons of showing respect are perception of seniors as the weak ones or as heroes. The thesis develops forms and reasons of respect and thereby serves an insight into relationships and attitudes of young generations towards seniors. It revealed there are differences in ways of showing respect among generations. It should also give us pause to thought over sometimes big gap between these two worlds - youth and old age.

In the research I opted for the method of participant observation and the semi-structured interview with the tradesmen of the traditional craft goods. I have attended two annual traditional fairs of crafted goods and managed to interview eight respondents. The second part of my thesis concentrates on the analysis of the respondents' interviews and the notes I have acquired during the stage of observation. On the basis of the data analysis I have identified the primary factors influencing the fairs' success rate from the tradesman viewpoint. The results at hand indicate the importance of the atmosphere during the fair, the quality of the accompanying programme, the selection of offered goods and the frequency with which the fairs are organized. Furthermore, I describe the tradesman community and the relationships between the individual groups. The focus is predominantly on the relationship between...

Čepelák, Václav ; Sládek, Jan (referee) ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor)
The thesis is a case study of Russian presence in Karlovy Vary from its inhabitants' point of view. This presence is described from the standpoint of the inhabitants' perception and their attitudes towards the Russians. Causes of Russians' coming to Karlovy Vary are also inquired and consequences of the Russian presence are reflected too. The causes are sought in the town history, especially in context of new colonization of border region after 1945. Present time is described in terms of statistical data regarding especially migration and a count of foreginers. The consequences of the Russian presence are found in changes in spatial zoning of the town and relation between of the Russian presence and local identity of local inhabitants. Interpretation of nine qualitative interviews is the source of evidence for this.
