Occupational regulation and its influence on the labor market: evidence from reforms in the Czech Republic
Ptáčníková, Marie ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Gok, Ugur (referee)
This thesis examines the impact of a 2004 reform that increased educational requirements for a regulated profession, namely nurses, on earnings level for both waged and salaried employees, and employment within nurse profession in the Czech Republic. Recently, a reform in the opposite direction regarding educational requirements for general nurses is in the approval process. It makes this analysis relevant. Similar country-based studies contracted by the European Commission regarding occupational regulation show mixed results, what additionally motivates this study. To identify effects of the reform a linear probability model and a difference-in-differences analysis were used. Empirical results suggest a negative effect on nurses' salaries with respect to doctors. In the case of wages, the effect appears to be fluctuating. As for the employment, a decrease in the probability of pursuing a nurse profession was identified for the years following the reform, but mostly insignificant. In general, this thesis shows that the reform had slightly negative short-term effect on nurses' earnings and employment levels. Due to few after-reform yearly observations it is challenging to make long-term conclusions.
Continuing Professional Development of Nurses: a public policy perspective.
Syrovátková, Tereza ; Mouralová, Magdalena (advisor) ; Dobiášová, Karolína (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with a topic of continuing professional development of nurses in the Czech Republic. The text is divided into two mutually connected dimensions. The first one focuses on a nurse as a stakeholder with certain motivations, strategies, and attitudes. The second dimension discusses the existing system of continuing professional development for nurses in terms of its implementation, form, as well as dysfunctional elements, and future challenges. The thesis shows a connection between the above dimensions. The formalised system of continuing professional development is supposed to affect nursing profession. At the same time, nurses are expected to be involved in the decision-making process. These assumptions are faced with the reality in the thesis. A qualitative study among nurses and experts leads to a conclusion that the current system does not fulfil nurses' both professional (in terms of quality and relevance of the education provided) and personal (financial and time burden) needs. Thus it hardly achieves its original goals. Should the system be changed, the nurses must engage in the decision-making process, which they currently do not. The continuing professional development might serve as one of the solutions to the insufficient political participation of nurses. Despite...

The Physical activity of working people focusing to nurses
KOLINGEROVÁ, Hana
Physical activity has been lately discussed around the whole world mainly because of its impact on human health. Due to huge technical development and current life style it turns out that the society is almost inactive. Physical activity is completely insufficient which brings a lot of negative effects on an individual and their health. The aim of thesis was to study the specialized literature in the field of physical activity and its impact on human health, processing of the given literature in the ´research part´ of my thesis and summary of that literature. Further parts of thesis are devoted to gathering of the necessary data, analyzing the results from IPAQ - long (International Physical Activity Questionnaire) questionnaire and monitoring the results from pedometer. To ascertain the amount of physical activity I opted for the IPAQ-long fulfilled by 120 probed people and also for the monitoring of the number of steps a day for a period of one week. The monitoring was performed on 30 individuals with the help of pedometers. The pedometers were individually set for the given person. According to the information gathered from the questionnaires and monitoring with the pedometer is obvious that some individuals miss physical activity in the field of intensive load and the number of steps in a day. Overall, it is possible to say, that according to the recommendation made by USDHHS, all respondents comply with the standard recommended for and adult individual in case of staying healthy.
Seasonal influenza vaccination and reasons for vaccination refusal among nurses
RODOVÁ, Kateřina
This bachelor work deals with an assessment of vaccination rates against seasonal flu for nurses as well as their opinions and reason for refusing the flu vaccination. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part chapters the knowledge of epidemiology, history of flu, originator, treatment and possible preventions against flu infection were processed. Further in the theoretical part I dealt with vaccination against this illness. For processing I used monographic publications, expert medical articles as well as electronic sources. In the research part I examined how the respondents understand the flu as an illness. I was interested if they consider this illness serious or not. I was very interested in nurses opinion about seasonal vaccination due to the fact that they are a group of people being aware of possible risks of this illness. The aim of my work is to analyze the reasons resulting in low vaccination of this group and finding the way how to increase it. I set up three main goals in my work. The first goal was to make a research of vaccination against seasonal flu for nurses in Pisek hospital and ambulatory workplaces of ordinary doctors in Pisek. The second goal was to analyze reasons for low vaccination for nurses and the third goal was to analyze reasons making nurses accept the flu vaccination. To gain all the data I used the method of quantitative research by anonymous questionnaire survey. 140 questionnaires in total were handed over. The final volume being processed was 106. All the data were assessed by graphs and tables (charts). The aim of the practical part was to find out vaccination rate for nurses in Pisek hospital and ambulatory ordinary doctors in Pisek. The research was forgone by ?preresearch? to check up the suitability of the chosen method for the data collection. The data collection was realized by the form of questionnaire. This questionnaire was anonymous and consisted of 18 questions. These questions focused on the problem of seasonal flu vaccination rate for nurses. I was also trying to find out the most essential reasons leading the nurses to refuse the seasonal flu vaccination. In connection with the work I set up 2 hypothesis and 1 research question. According to the survey I either confirmed or refuted them. Through the first hypothesis I was trying to find out if the seasonal flu vaccination rate for nurses is higher than for the common population. This hypothesis was not confirmed as the rate was lower for nurses than for the common population. In the second hypothesis I was dealing with the question if the nurses working in Pisek hospital are more interested in seasonal flu vaccination than the nurses working in ambulatory workplaces. I could confirm this hypothesis, but the vaccination rate was still very low. The research result shows that the most common reason for non-vaccination is distrust to seasonal flu vaccination effects. It also means that most of the respondents do not consider flu as a serious illness. Through this work I would like to highlight the importance of information which might help nurses to consider the possible risks of flu and motivate them to use the vaccination. Vaccination is an important mean of prevention from flu viruses, especially for risk groups of people. For the research it also results that nurses underestimate the vaccination and most of them were not vaccinated against the illness. According to the results it is clear that nurses are well informed about all the risks connected to this illness. Flu vaccination as well as vaccination in general is still very intensively discussed topic at our society. Preventing the flu by vaccination for nurses reduces the impact of flu illnesses especially at risk groups ? no doubt that all the hospital organization clients are. Very often people confuse flu with light cold of respiratory tracts. In the working environment flu spreads very quickly.
Urinary Inkontinence as a Stress Faktor on Seniors- Women
MARŠÍKOVÁ, Jana
Abstract Urinary incontinence is involuntary leakage of urine, which causes medical, psychological, social and hygienic problems. Incontinence is a common problem of senior age and influences all fields of women´s life. Almost every senior woman has some kind of experience with this issue, either personal or linked to someone she knows. This thesis deals with causes of incontinence origin, its diagnostics and treatment possibilities. The aim was to find out whether incontinence influences mental condition of senior women and if so, in which way the problems connected with the incontinence are present. The thesis further examines how senior women cope with information about their problems, whether they have sufficient information and whether the information is understandable. It is also important to know what the modern-day options for treatment of this problem are, and whether senior women are willing to undergo the procedures and examinations. The thesis also deals with the question whether senior women have sufficiency of incontinency aids, whether they are satisfied with the nursing care and whether their privacy during sanitation is satisfactory. The survey shows that senior women are stressed by urine leakage, they reduce their activities, socially isolate themselves, are dissatisfied with the quantity of the incontinency aids, limit the fluid intake. The finding, that senior women are not much interested in receiving more information, in further detailed examinations, or in pelvic muscle rehabilitation, was surprising. It has been proven that doctors offer mainly pharmacological and compensational treatment to senior women. Regarding the privacy issue, it has been proven that senior women are satisfied with the nursery care and have adapted to the lack of privacy. It resulted from the survey that nurses do not have enough professional information for education of senior women. Elaboration of a new educational plan for the Senior House clients and nurses working in the facility is the output of this thesis.
