An analysis of the new importers of plastic waste after China's ban on imports in 2017
Wilson, Susann ; Tesař, Jakub (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
This thesis research how the global trade of plastic waste has been relocated in the aftermath of China's ban on plastic waste imports in 2017. In recent decades, the burgeoning demand for plastics has fostered a marked upsurge in the global trade of plastic waste. Researchers has established that developed nations are often the source of plastic waste exports, while developing and underdeveloped nations are the primary destinations, resulting in the imposition of significant environmental burdens upon these nations. This phenomenon has triggered an environmental justice discourse, highlighting the unequal distribution of social and environmental costs. The implementation of China's waste import restrictions has led to an altered trade landscape, with mainly South-Asian countries emerging as significant importers of large quantities of plastic waste. This thesis looks at how this trade landscape has changed and finds that the new major importer of plastic waste is South-Asian developing countries. Moreover, the work undergone in this thesis aims at filling in the scholarly gap when it comes to the explanatory reasons behind new importers motivations towards plastic waste imports. By developing and running multiple regression analysis this thesis finds that there are some statistically significant...
Effectiveness of the use of clues of contaminated sites obtained by remote sensing for the National Inventory of Contaminated Sites
Suchánek, Zdeněk ; Řeřicha, Jaroslav
The National Inventory of Contaminated Sites (NIKM) project was aimed to fill the database of the Contaminated Sites Register (SEKM) with approximately 9053 updated and validated records with evaluated priority, taking into account the risk from the point of view of life and health of the population and the environment. We expect the number of records to be approximately 10100. Thousands of contaminated and potentially contaminated sites (KM / PKM) entered in the SEKM register are also waste management sites. The article focuses on the possibility of using information from the inventory for waste management. The initial project task implemented in the years 2018–2019 concerned the mapping of KM / PKM clues by remote sensing (RS) methods. The mapping provided a wealth of insights into the territorial distribution of clues. Using remote sensing methods, a significant part (approx. 18%) was obtained from the total number of approx. 10100 evaluated sites registered in SEKM. 48.5% of all records of evaluated localities arising from clues come from the group of types of clues determined using remote sensing methods and related to municipal waste (types of clues c, p, l, r). The use of remote sensing methods, such as the interpretation of orthophotomaps, can be a significant benefit for the performance of public administration in the field of spatial planning and environmental protection. Today, SEKM is a complete public database of the Ministry of the Environment that can be used by the professional and general public. Many of information contained in it can be used for the issue of waste disposal on the surface.

Výzkum možností rozšíření informovanosti obyvatel při nakládání s odpady v městské čísti Brno - střed
Fröhlichová, Jana
The major concern of master thesis was to investigate opportunities of public awareness enhancement considering waste management in Brno central region. Firstly the legislative background and general terms were reported. Then state-of-art including for instance waste classification or waste collection points was of major interest. Subsequently own survey by mean of questionnaire interview was performed and obtained data were used for identification of current weaknesses. On the ground of obtained results own certain measures were designed to cover current drawbacks which may lead to enhancement of public awareness about waste management. Each and every designed measure was intensively discussed and consulted with head of department of waste management at local Brno-central region Municipality. For each measure official statement with comments and recommendations was obtained from head of department. Although designed measures were found beneficial and were considered for further application, the lack of available finance resources has been found as a major reason for temporary rejection. Nevertheless the City Municipality has obligated themselves to consider such measures in some of the future concepts for waste management.
Legislation for waste management from the trader's point of view
Dušek, Martin ; Sobotka, Michal (advisor) ; Žákovská, Karolina (referee)
1 Abstract Legislation for waste management from the trader's point of view The diploma thesis deals with the legal regulation of waste management from the perspective of the trader with regard to Act no. 541/2020 Coll. on waste and Decree 1013/2006 in the case of cross-border shipments of goods. The Principles of Circular Economy in a Technical Services Company
STUCHLÍKOVÁ, Zuzana
The bachelor thesis deals with the principles of circular economicy in a technical services company. The theoretical part will explain the difference between circular economy and linear economy. Next the principles of circular economy and its benefits will be introduced. After that the thesis explains what innovation is and introduces its different types. It also shows the successes of Czech companies in innovation. In the practical part there will be an introduction of the company. A financial analysis based on the balance sheet and income statement will be performed. Then this will be compared with other financial analysis of companies with respect to the ownership situation. Either the owner is only a city or partly a city and a company. The aim of the practical part is to find out how the company currently handles waste and to recommend possible solutions to improve this system with respect to the environment. The detected state will serve as a basis for finding opportunities for improvement. In particular, the thesis works with the possibility of introducing the 3R principle, that means reduce, reuse and recycle. It can be expected that the introduction of this principle in particular will lead to an improvement of the impact of the company's waste management on the environment. Finally, the work should serve as a possible guide for the technical services company to improve environmental sustainability.
Hodnocení environmentálního zatížení vázaného na produkci odpadu
VANĚČEK, Miloslav
Waste management is becoming a social issue. Above all, it is about reducing landfill in the framework of changing legislation. The work focused on the analysis of environmental impacts of landfilled mixed municipal waste in a selected municipality using the LCA (Life Cycle Assement) method using the Ecoinvent database. The most significant impact of waste was in the impact categories of human toxicity and climate change. The individual components of the waste had different impacts within the impact categories. Plastic, fine fraction and textiles with other waste had a significant share in the impacts. In order to reduce environmental impacts, it would be appropriate to optimize the waste management and energy recovery system in the selected municipality.
Risk Assessment of Textile Waste Management
Šindlerová, Vanesa ; Vymazal, Tomáš (referee) ; Hrabová, Kristýna (advisor)
This thesis deals with environmental risks arising from textile waste management. The introduction describes the context of textile problematics and maps the current situation of textile waste management. The main goal of this thesis is to determinate the environmental risks of low percentage of recycling. Recycling is one way of dealing with textile that mitigates the impact on the environment. For the evaluation of the causes and consequences of the researched problem are used Bow-tie analysis and Ishikawa’s diagram. The results of the work bring environmental risks resulting from the application of those selected methods. Part of the thesis is a questionnaire that evaluates the individual’s attitude to textiles. Results of the questionnaire reveals that not needed textiles are perceived as risk to the environment. At the same time, consumer behavior does not correspond with efforts to mitigate the identified impacts.
