Knowledge of Idioms in Basic School Pupils

This thesis focuses on phraseology and its integration into the teaching of Czech language and literature in primary school. The aim is to present a detailed analysis of a research investigation focused on the knowledge of idioms among pupils of a selected primary school. In the theoretical part of the thesis, firstly, important concepts in the field of phraseology are defined - definition, characteristics and functions of idioms, their updating. Subsequently, it is observed how the phraseology curriculum is integrated into the Framework Educational Programme for Primary Education and the School Educational Programme of the selected primary school. Furthermore, a detailed analysis of the phraseology curriculum in selected textbooks of Czech language and literature for primary schools is presented. This thesis presents previous research on the knowledge and understanding of phraseology and presents their results. The practical part of the thesis deals with a research investigation in which pupils of the second stage of the selected primary school and pupils of the fourth and fifth grades of the first stage of the same school took part. Linguistics and didactic problems in teaching Czech language to Ukrainian native speakers

The topic of the bachelor thesis is linguistic and didactic problems arising in the teaching of the Czech language for foreign language speakers from Ukraine and Russia. Thus, attention is focused on difficult phenomena in the morphological and lexical plan (including phraseology), or even syntactic. The analysis of language material obtained from practical teaching will provide ideas for solving some problematic sections of grammar. The aim of the bachelor's thesis will be proposals for didactic procedure in the interpretation of selected grammatical and lexical phenomena and some recommendations used to master the curriculum.
Germanisms as components of phrasemes in Czech language

This thesis deals with Germanisms, which are part of Czech idioms. Germanisms are words borrowed from the German language into our mother tongue. The theoretical part of the thesis describes the science of phraseology, its history, principles and types of idioms and it deals with the ways of vocabulary enrichment. The aim of this thesis was to find out whether idioms with Germanisms are still known for primary school pupils and for high school and university students today. The research was conducted at different types of schools in different towns, which are situated at varying distances from the borders with the German speaking countries. The results show that high school and university students achieve a greater knowledge of idioms, and that the distance of the school attended or the distance of residence from the border also plays a significant role in the vocabulary of young individuals. There are outlined didactic activities for working with idioms in German language lessons at the end of the thesis.
A lexico-semantic analysis of phrasal verbs in English and their Czech equivalents/Lexiko-sémantická analýza frázových sloves v angličtině a jejich české ekvivalenty

This Bachelor thesis deals with phrasal verbs and their Czech equivalents. The theoretical part focuses on the basic word-formation processes in English and Czech language with more attention on the process of verbal affixation. Phrasal verbs are then described in detail and how the literature approaches this phenomenon. In the practical part, corpus-based research of the most frequent phrasal verbs is practised. Then the analysis of the data follows. Czech equivalents are assigned for each of the findings and it is evaluated how the results correspond with each other. In the final part of the thesis, a new approach to phrasal verbs is proposed as a new possible method of dealing with these units or even as a new teaching method.
Phraseology and its Applicability in Foreign Languages Teaching and Learning

This thesis is concerned with phraseology and its intertwining with didactics of foreign languages. The practical part consists of the analysis of a contemporary situation in didactics of foreign languages, particularly the utilization of idioms. Further, the frequency of using proverbs and other set phrases in modern textbooks for teaching foreign languages (namely German and Russian) is analysed. The thesis is based on the theory of cognitive linguistics, especially on theory of semantic school of Lublin. Linguistic part of this thesis is based on the analysis of the Czech dictionaries (etymological, explanatory, synonymical and phraseological dictionaries) with the brief addition of the symbolism of dog. Animal species in Czech and Danish phraseology

and key words The final thesis discuss idiomatic expressions, which includes words related to animal kingdom. An essential point of the whole thesis was creation of a list of all relevant Danish idioms. There was found their Danish definitions as well and subsequently also their Czech equivalent words. Equivalent degree was found by all words. The thesis is divided into theoretical part and practical part. The first one describes idiomacity and phraseology as a whole and compares Danish and Czech works on this topic. Other subjects, which is needed in the practical part, is discussed. Deep analysis of the list of the idioms is the content of the practical part of the thesis. Main topics is perception of animals in Czech and Danish, degree of their mutual equivalency and some other specific subjects related to animal idioms. Idiomatic Phrases in the Novell "Buchmendel" from Stefan Zweig and in its Translation into Czech

This bachelor's thesis pursues the contrastive comparison of Czech and German idioms in Stefan Zweig's novel "Buchmendel" and its Czech translation. Besides the theoretical description of idioms, its characteristic features and its classification deals the thesis with the contrastive phraseology, which was taken into account in the practical section, where the found idioms were divided according to their degree of equivalence, compared and commented. The center of interest is the appraisal of the suitability of the translation.
