From Self-Selection to System Selection: Czech Vocational Education in Captivity of the Labor Market

The diploma thesis "From Self-Selection to System Selection: Czech Vocational Education in Captivity of the Labor Market" responds to current efforts to divert some students from graduation due to the unification of entrance and final examinations and stricter admission conditions, in a system that is characterized by a high relationship between social background and education, which also tends to strengthen. The thesis aims to identify and describe the main selective mechanisms and institutional barriers of the Czech education system through secondary data analysis, as a result of which students are systematically allocated to secondary vocational schools and subsequently to specific positions in the labour market, which are associated with economic and social instability. The main mechanisms identified by this paper are the distribution of educational opportunities through the differentiation of educational paths accompanied by young age selection of pupils, the associated emphasis on personal responsibility in choosing an educational path, which is highly determined due to conditionality by social origin, and the concept of entrance and final exams as high-stakes of standardized testing, which represents an insurmountable mental and factual barrier for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. Unemployement of population in the Czech Republic

Unemployment is very complicated phenomenon nowadays. Many scientific disciplines are concerned with it. Unemployment could be researched from geographical, economical, social and psychological point of view. This problem is not only about the unemployed, but it also extends the whole society and the state. The main aim of this bachelor thesis is appraisal of unemployment, mainly from geographical point of view, searching regional differences of unemployment and effort to find out the causes of unemployment and connections with other phenomena. Psychological and social consequences of unemployment are briefly mentioned in the thesis. This thesis analyzes the period of unemployment since 1990 up to the present day (2014). The analysis also contains spatial differentiation of unemployment in regional and district level as well as in the level of municipalities with extended powers, comparison of unemployment of the Czech Republic and other European countries and appraisal of structure of the unemployed, more precisely the structure of registered job applicants. The important part of the thesis is definition of basic concepts and presentation of basic measures of unemployment ratings, which are used in the practical part of the thesis.

Analysis of labor market in the Czech Republic

The Bachelor thesis focuses on labour market and unemployment in the Czech Republic. The main aim of this thesis is the analysis of labour market in the Czech Republic in the years 2008-2014, with a focus on the development of unemployment and employment. The thesis includes comparing the position of the Czech Republic in the European Union in terms of employment and unemployment. The thesis is devided into the five main parts. The first part is an introduction to the topic of the thesis. The second part is the aim and methodology. Thirt part is the theory whose task is to explain concepts, which are related to the labour market and unemployment. The fourth part is a practical part, in which should be accomplished the aim of this thesis. The analytical part is based on data, which are published by the Czech Statistical Office, Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and Eurostat. Last fifth part is a final summary.
The role of NGOs in tackling unemployment

The thesis topic is the role of the non-profit sector in the field of unemployment solutions. The first part relates the consequences of unemployment and non-profit activities and highlights their importance in mitigating the effects of unemployment. This part also points out impact of non-profit organizations to increase employment and employability. In the next chapter, using examples from practice outlines the possibilities of cooperation between the NGOs and public administration. The third part focuses on statistical data on unemployment in the Czech Republic and then in more detail in the Vysočina Region. The final section describes in detail activities of NGO Fokus Vysočina and also several other examples of activities of social enterprises in the Vysočina Region. The conclusion summarizes the results and gives recommendations for further improvement.
Present level of unemployement in region Teplice in relation to active labour market policy

The aim of this bachelor thesis is an analysis of unemployement developement in the region Teplice. In its theoretical part are determined basic key terms related to market structure -- mainly Labour market, Unemployment and Labour policy. This part also contains several notifications about differences between this market and the market of goods and services. The very next part deals with socioeconomic and demographic analysis of the region -- main focus is given to development of supply of the labour. Following chapter deals with development of the Labour market, mainly with the number of people unemployed and to the number of jobs available. The next part is focused to active employment policy realized by Labour office as a instrument in the struggle against the unemployment. In the very last part, there is summary and recommendations for the future unemployment policy. This recommendation is created in cooperation with the biggest companies in this area.
