Doležalová, Petra ; Horáková Hoskovcová, Simona (advisor) ; Kalousová, Zuzana (referee)
This bachelor thesis investigates the possibilities for development of self-regulation by means of meditation practice. Its literary review part deals with self-regulation and self-control as variously defined mechanisms of one own's regulation of thoughts, emotions, and behavior and their role in one's capability to manage their actions and accept social norms throughout a life- long socialization process. It also briefly describes various forms, causes and consequences of failure in the socialization as well as the self-regulation domain. Further on, it discusses the mechanisms of meditation practice and its effects - particularly on the development of self- regulatory skills and concludes with a presentation of existing experience from this area of research in penitentiary practice. The empirical part proposes an experimental study of the effect of an intensive 10-day standardized meditation course of the vipassana technique as taught by S. N Goenka on the rate of impulsivity among the male prison population in the Czech Republic. Key words Self-regulation, self-control, impulsivity, meditation, vipassana, penitentiary practice
