Milan Kundera and The Theme of Revenge in his Novels

This thesis discusses the concept of ressentiment and revenge as a form of ressentiment in Milan Kundera's novels published in the 1960s and early 1970s, The Joke, Life is Elsewhere and The Farewell Waltz. This thesis utilises the definition of ressentiment by Friedrich Nietzsche's The Genealogy of Morals. This thesis aims to discuss the characters of ressentiment in the light of this definition, consider revenge as a construct and the effects of the characters' revenge on them and other characters.
Theme of Return in the Novels of Milan Kundera

This work analyzes the motifs constructing the theme of return in three novels by Milan Kundera. The main and pivotal part of the work consists of the chapters Joke, Unbearable Lightness of Being and Ignorance. The aim is to use individual motifs to construct the theme of return in a comparison of individual novels. Construction of the theme, the role of narrative components in its construction, interpretation within individual fictional worlds and as a key theme connecting Kunder's fictional worlds. Poetics of selected dramas from the Krejča's era of the National Theater

This bachelor's thesis deals with the motif of everyday life, which came to the fore in the second half of the 1950s, not only for ordinary people, but also for writers, poets and playwrights. In particular, it examines the degree of importance of the motif of everyday life in the plays written for the National Theatre during the period when Otomar Krejča and his "dramaturgical workshop" were active there. For the typological analysis, five plays were selected which premieres took place at the Tyl Theatre in 1958-1963, namely František Hrubín's August Sunday and Crystal Night, Josef Topol's Their Day, František Pavlíček's Match with the Angel and Milan Kundera's The Owners of the Keys. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the motif of everyday life is what defines the poetics of the original plays written for the National Theatre. Diploma thesis Czech literary dreams deals with interpretation of three novels by Milan Kundera (The Joke, Life Is Elsewhere, The Book of Laugter and Forgetting). The core of the interpretations lies with the dreamy parts of the novel. The meaning of the text was sought within relations of more and less noticeable subjects and intertextual references. The interpretations of chosen Kundera's novels are partially observed through the context of works of Ludvík Vaculík, in particular by the context of The Czech Dreambook.
"Conditions of exile: language, text and history in the work of Libuše Moníková and Milan Kundera"

This diploma thesis aims to demarcate the term "exile" and its conditions, further the thesis explores the impacts this experience has on a writer's work, especially the problem of writing in a foreign language and the character of translation. Concretely the present thesis is based on the literary work of Libuše Moníková and Milan Kundera. The first chapter examines the general research field in detail and the occurrence of related themes in the production of both authors. The following two chapters treat individual aspects of work created under the condition of exile - language and translation on the one hand, the correlations of text and history on the other. The findings of all analyses performed within this diploma thesis relate not only to the individual authors, but can be employed to specify and supplement the over-all picture of Czech literature of the second half of the 20th century, as the phenomenon of exile is essential for the understanding of this specific period. The thesis tries to affect aspects of the Kundera's style and his specific concept of postmodernism with regard to their influence and inspiration for the creation of Venko Andonovski. Work will also focus on the differences and the similarities in the contrary, understanding and defining postmodern literature in the context of the Czech literary science and macedonian literary scientific discourse. Milan Kundera and intertextuality

The diploma thesis Milan Kundera and Intertextuality deals with aspects of relations between the texts in his novels. The first part outlines the intertextuality, theory of the novel and the approaches of some literary theorists towards this issue. The second half of the thesis analyzes the intertextuality in Kundera's works in various forms, mainly based on the themes of dreams and physicality. The greatest emphasis is placed on examining the legacy of Kafka in the context of Kundera's works, particularly in the novels The Joke and The Book of Laughter and Forgetting. Musical inspiration in the works of Milan Kundera

The diploma thesis deals with musical inspiration on the base of the analysis of the composition and motives in Kundera's novels. Basic source of the analysis is Kundera's own reflection of modern music, its principles and functions in author's essays. The aim of the thesis is to chart sources of inspiration which mirror in Kundera's prose and other texts. We proceed from the concrete to the abstract, from analysis of motives and composition of each book, to the intellectual level which is perceptible mainly in author's essays and essaistic passages in some novels. Author's texts are dealt with chronologically. As the level of motives and themes are concerned, the musical inspiration is treated via themes, such as Beethoven and his art of variations, noisy contemporary music and the end of music in the work of Schoenberg. On the level of composition, the author writes novels using schemes of musical forms, such as theme with variations, rondo, sonata form or fugue. In his essays, he mainly examines works of composers Beethoven, Janacek, Stravinskij and Schoenberg. All three levels are connected and they influence each other. The last chapter is oriented didacticly and an option is offered how to use this topic at school. It is important to considerate cross-curricular links between literature and music.

Thesis "Milan Kundera's 'The Joke' supervised. Critical reception of the novel in the context of its release and today" deals with critical reflection of the novel 'The Joke' in the period from the end of the 1960's up to current reviews. The author dedicates first chapters to the cultural and political background of the release. The core of the thesis focuses mostly on critical reception of the novel, which is divided into three historical periods. In the first part of the critical historical analysis and qualitative analysis, the author examines critical acceptance of the novel in the aftermath of its release (1967-1969), in the Czechoslovakian and exiled journals and literary magazines in particular. The second part considers critical reaction to the novel throughout 1970's and 80's, and stresses outcomes of the reception in the sixties, official normalized critical reviews and the acceptance in the exile and samizdat literature as well. Finally, the last part of the thesis offers contemporary critical response to 'The Joke', analyzed on the basis of Czech journals, literary magazines and newly emergent Kundera's monographs and on the basis of French critical reception of the Milan Kundera's collected work in the prestigious La Pléiade Gallimard edition.
