European Union and FRONTEX: A Civil-Security Relations Analysis
Netopil, Petr ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
This research focuses on the Civil-Security Relations between the EU and its border agency, FRONTEX. Relationships between the state and its border guards vary wildly in space and time in terms of the level of militarization, which is why this thesis set out to define the situation of the EU's first uniformed and armed service. A single case study was used, as FRONTEX as a transnational border agency is a deviant case. This research creates a typology of security services within the state and then places FRONTEX within it. In the discussion that follows, the relationship between the EU and FRONTEX seems to be matched best by the relationship between a state and its gendarmerie, though the police force is also very close. Furthermore, there are exceptions where the agency behaves more like an army or a civilian service. In terms of real-world analogues, it tracks most closely with the relationships between Latvia, Finland, and their respective border guards.
Application of the so-called Magnitsky Act in the European Union and in the United States of America
Hajdová, Kristýna ; Pulgret, Miroslav (advisor) ; Romancov, Michael (referee)
This bachelor's thesis explores the application of the so-called Magnitsky Law in the United States of America and the European Union. The so-called Magnitsky generic collective name for the sanctions regimes created in response to the death of Sergei Magnitsky, a Russian lawyer who exposed tax fraud by Russian officials. Magnitsky himself was falsely accused of tax fraud and wrongfully imprisoned for almost a year. In prison, he was systematically tortured in an attempt to get him to change his testimony, he was denied medical care, and died after 358 days in prison due to his health problems. His death sparked a strong global reaction, and over the next decade, states around the world gradually adopted sanctions regimes punishing human rights abuses inspired by Sergei Magnitsky. This thesis examines Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act of 2012, The Global Magnitsky Act of 2016 and EU Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime. Before embarking on a more detailed examination of the functioning and legislation of these sanctions regimes using a comparative analysis, in several chapters I present a brief context of the historical development of sanctions, which were gradually transformed from large-scale embargoes to targeted sanctions, and also provide an overview of the events that led up to...

Císařovský, Adam ; Krausz Hladká, Malvína (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
The Bachelor's thesis on Analytical Perspective on Bi-Regional Integration between the European Union and Selected Integration Organizations in Latin America presents an up-to- date analysis of partial forms of bi-regional cooperation between the European Union and two selected integration groupings - i.e CELAC and MERCOSUR. The thesis describes the objects of activity and the institutional possibilities of each of the selected Latin American organisations, and then describes the course of negotiations between these organizations and the European Union to date. Although the thesis is partly devoted to a historical summary, the main contribution of the thesis lies in the possibility to elaborate the current developments on the EU-CELAC and EU-MERCOSUR axis in the year 2023. In the case of EU-CELAC relations, the results of the bi-regional summit held in Brussels in 2023 are examined, while on the EU-MERCOSUR axis, the stage of negotiations on a free trade area between the European Union and MERCOSUR countries is examined. The above issues are set within the theoretical framework of regionalism and multilateralism. The bachelor thesis primarily uses the method of descriptive, critical and qualitative analysis. The results of the thesis consist in understanding the roles of the different Latin...

Důsledky rusko-ukrajinské krize pro energetickou bezpečnost Evropské unie
Hrdlička, Vít
The thesis examines the energy security of the European Union in the context of the 2014 Russia-Ukraine crisis, which escalated in February 2022 with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The thesis analyses, in the form of a case study, the impact of this invasion on the EU's energy security, as the Russian Federation supplies significant amounts of fossil fuels to the EU countries. As a result of the invasion, the share of natural gas and oil supplies from Russia to the EU has decreased and the prices of these raw materials have increased. In this context, the EU has started to look at new suppliers from the Middle East and has strengthened cooperation with existing suppliers such as Norway and the United States. In addition, the EU has issued energy-related sanctions packages and introduced the REPowerEU plan, which has led to a strengthening of the EU's energy security and a reduction in dependence on fossil fuel imports from Russia.

Drábková, Natalie
Drábková, N. Education in EU countries. Bachelor thesis. Brno: Mendel University in Brno, 2023. The bachelor's thesis deals with the existence of a relationship between the share of the tertiary educated population and the economic level of the country in selected EU states. In the theoretical part, tertiary education and its impact on the labour market are discussed, as well as academic failure and lifelong learning, and finally, the implementation of the Europe 2020 Strategy and the expansion of Industry 4.0. In the analytical part, the educational structure of representative countries, which were selected on the basis of cluster analysis, is compared. Within the indicator of the university students, elementary characteristics were used to describe the development of the time series of Latvia, Luxembourg, Germany, Spain and the Czech Republic. Finally, a multiple regression was constructed for Germany and Spain. Regression analysis showed that the share of university graduates affects economic performance in Germany. In the other hand, in Spain was no correlation between the given indicators. At the same time, the influence of the unemployment rate on the GDP per inhabitant was proven in this country. At the end of the thesis, it is recommended to politicians to motivate students to study STEM fields, which have a significant impact on economic performance.
