Teachers' attitudes towards the use of the name Czechia
Lambert, Filip ; Jelen, Jakub (advisor) ; Chromý, Pavel (referee)
The bachelor's thesis deals with the attitudes of teachers at primary and secondary schools, whether they know the difference between a geographical and a political name. The main goal of the work is to find out if teachers use the geographical names Czechia / Czechia in teaching, or for what reasons they prefer the political name, and if these reasons are relevant. The work also deals with the historical context of names over the last hundred years with an insight into the beginnings of the use of geographical names. The work primarily examines current events in the media and on the political scene. The research was conducted with the help of a questionnaire survey, to which 124 respondents responded. It was found that the majority of geography teachers use geographical names in their teaching, while the results were more balanced for teachers of other qualifications. Furthermore, it was found that respondents rejecting short names do not have any relevant reasons for not using them, but limit themselves to the dichotomy of subjective feelings, whether they like the name or not.
Bohemia in the Merovingian age
Korený, Rastislav ; Košnar, Lubomír (advisor) ; Sláma, Jiří (referee) ; Varsik, Vladimír (referee)
Bohemia in the Merovingian age - end of the 5th - 6th century AD Rastislav Korený Mining Museum Příbram Abstract The following objectives have been pursued in the dissertation: 1. A new commented inventory of sites from the end of the 5th and 6th century (excluding coin finds) which should become a reliable basis for an analysis of the collected material. The last inventory of such kind was created by Bedřich Svoboda approximately sixty years ago, i.e. in the 1940-1950s, and it was not published until 1965. The need for a new revised inventory became apparent over the recent years. During the physical re-evaluation of earlier finds and related primary visual and textual documentation, which was carried out in the years 1996- 2013 (30 museum and non-museum collections, 4 separate archival collections and other information sources were revised), there was a striking discrepancy between the published data contained in the catalogue of the above mentioned monograph and reality. The excavations carried out after 1965 also, naturally, resulted in the expansion of the amount of available source material. 2. Because the material currently available from settlements was published by Ivana Pleinerová in 2007, the analysis of the collected data concentrated, in addition to the identification of chronologically more...
The cult of St. Barbara in medieval Bohemia
Zelenková, Adéla ; Kubín, Petr (advisor) ; Doležalová, Eva (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the cult of Saint Barbara in medieval Bohemia. Saint Barbara is a legendary saint whose martyrdom is estimated to have occurred around 306. Saint Barbara was first venerated in the East. The cult was imported to Italy during the Byzantine occupation in the 6th century, from there was spread further north of the Alps. The cult experienced its greatest expansion in the West in the 14th century. The cult of Saint Barbara was spread in Bohemia in the 14th century and never achieved such popularity as cults of other saints (for example Saint Catherine). The popularity of the Saint Barbara cult in Bohemia has been reconstructed mainly on the basis of the frequency of dedications of churches, chapels and altars.
Estate maps and their importance for the study of historical landscapes and serfdom towns
Tůmová, Martina ; Semotanová, Eva (advisor) ; Frajer, Jindřich (referee) ; Šantrůčková, Markéta (referee)
The dissertation deals with the knowledge and reconstruction of the historical landscape of the early to the upper modern period using cartographic sources, maps of the estates from the 18th and the first half of the 19th century, which have not been exploited so far. It seeks answers to the questions of what changes occurred in the landscape during this period and documents them, especially on the example of the serfdom towns in Bohemia. The dissertation is interdisciplinary in nature. It tries to contribute to research in historical geography and to fit thematically into the concept of studying historical landscapes (from identification and documentation to understanding the meanings of their transformations). However, it also uses the approaches of historical cartography in the research, analysis and processing of hitherto neglected cartographic sources - sources of information about the past. Attention in the study of historical landscapes and urban history has so far been paid rather to the younger period from the mid-19th century onwards, mainly because of the availability, mostly wider possibilities of processing the necessary historical sources (topographically more accurate old maps and plans of comparative character) and the accuracy of their narrative value. The older period up to the...
Depiction of Apollo on Baroque Ceiling Painting
Ungrová, Eva ; Oulíková, Petra (advisor) ; Vymazalová, Marie (referee)
The Depiction of Apollo on Baroque murals The theme of the diploma thesis is the depiction of Apollo in Baroque frescoes. The figure of the antique God of Sun appears in our country most often in Baroque residences in several different themes. Apollo with his sun chariot is closely connected with the solar theme - due to its location in space, it refers us to the daily cyclicality. Apollo with his sun chariot, same as Aurora symbolizes an allegory of the arrival of a new day. We most often find this theme in halls and staircases, but also in Sala terrena. Specific examples can be seen, for example, in Náměšť nad Oslavou, where Apollo announces a new day, or in Slavkov u Brna where we find several paintings connected with daily cyclicality, and in the Sale terrain in Děčín as an example of outdoor decoration. Some rulers also identified with the god Apollo, so his figure is also present in some frescoes celebrating his client. We meet such an example in the Clam-Gallas Palace in Prague or in the Hall of the Ancestors of the chateau in Vranov nad Dyjí. Apollo with the Muses presents a celebration of art. In our country, for example, at the chateau Nové Město nad Metují, but also in the Prague Klementinum in a baroque library hall, where Apollo is on a side fresco on Mount Parnassus. Apollo often...

Hasilová, Pavla ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Županič, Jan (referee)
COUNTESS SERENI AND THE TOWN OF BLATNA The thesis is not only a contribution to the regional history of Blatná nad Blatná district, but also a probe to the life of a baroque noble marital pair. The reader is also acquainted with the life milestone of Marie Alžběty (Mary Elizabeth), countess Sereni, née Waldstein (1698 - 1787), and her husband, count Josef (Joseph) Sereni. The Blatná demesne was under their rule in the period of 1709 to 1787 (part 3.1). Part 3.2 deals with the official career of count Josef Sereni. Chapters 4 and 5 present an insight to the everyday life of barogue nobility, mainly through the medium of preserved accounts of the count household; the author deals with the question of banqueting, their residences, domestic stuff and wardrobe, primarily taking account of noble self-presentation. Its specific form - the problems of family legends - is analysed in chapter 6. The most extensive chapter (No 7) deals mainly with widowed Marie Alžběta's activities at Blatná demesne, namely through baroque religiosity. Sereni religous endowments, foundations of sacral architecture, efforts to improve the school in Blatná, the interest in...
