High pressure sorption of CO2 and CH4 on coal from Upper Silesian Basin

High pressure adsorption isotherms of CO2 and CH4 were measured on three coal samples at 45 C temperature. The ratio of CO2:CH4 was determined to be around 1.75. The influence of coal maceral composition on gas adsorption was determined.
Removal of Phenols from Waste Water by Sorption Techniques

Phenols belong to the most common water pollutants in the industrial effluents thus contamination of ground waters is not so sporadic. The other source of phenols as contaminants used to be the application of the underground coal gasification technology (UCG). This study is focused on removal of phenols from contaminated water by sorption technique.

The report on a development of advanced methods of the study of speciation and description of sorption of actinoids

The report of the last period of the project presents a development of three topics, each of which relates to the study of the radionuclide migration in fields near to disposal of nuclear waste and other nuclear facilities. The local structure and thermodynamic stability of uranyl sulfate complexes in aqueous solution was investigated by DFT theory. Interpretation of UV-VIS absorption spectra of uranyl-sulfate and -aqua complexes in aqueous solution was performed within the time-dependent DFT calculations. The structures were optimized in the aqueous phase at the B3LYP level by using model COSMO. The calculated geometries of aqua-sulfate complexes corresponded to the experimental data. DFT method described qualitatively thermodynamic stability of complexes in solution. TD-DFT method correctly interpreted only a part of absorption spectra (190-340 nm). In order to interpret the area around 420 nm it will be necessary to use the two-component relativistic TD-DFT.

The use of phosphate fertilizers and sewage sludge results in pollution of field soils with cadmium. To predict the cadmium transport in soil, knowledge of the forms of cadmium bonds with soil particles is necessary. Two radioactive tracer techniques were used to estimate the forms of cadmium bonds with the particles of the loamy sand soil from Kalinkovo, loamy soil from Macov, and clay soil from Jurová.
