LINQ technology
ČERNÝ, Ondřej
Purpose of this thesis is to overview unified programming model LINQ and its application in C#. It examines effects of LINQ utilization on conventional methods used while working with data in object oriented programming. Major part of this thesis discuss the implementation of LINQ to SQL, however basic information about all the significant methods are also included. Furthermore, it is engaged in development of C# applications using LINQ and may also serve as a learning guide, containing all vital facts about LINQ, its syntax, and its advantages compared to classic principles of data handling.
Agile database management
Kotyza, David ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Macák, Petr (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on agile management of relational databases. The gole is to provide detail analysis of changes which are performed on daily bases by DBA or software developers and describe how these changes can hugely affect performance of database system and its data. The principles of best known development methodics are described in part one (chapter 2 and 3). Following second part (chapter 4) contains descriptions of basics steps of agile strategies which have been often used in application solutions. Finally the third part (chapter 5 and following) contains detail information about usual performed database tasks.
Comparison of Open Source relational database systems
Nohejl, Petr ; Chlapek, Dušan (advisor) ; Palovská, Helena (referee)
The goal of this work is to bring comparison of significant Open Source relational database systems and one proprietary system. The comparison of the systems consists of functional comparison according to the actual trends in relational database systems and furthermore on performance testing, which will show up how efficient are single systems during execution of various commands and for which situations it is appropriate to use them. This work can be divided to three parts. First part is focused on overview of the market situation, choice of the systems intended to compare and introduction of the systems in light of their history, present state and future trends. Comparison criteria, database model for SQL commands testing and methodology of testing process are determined in the second part of this work. And finally results of the comparison and performance testing are in the third part of this work. Benefits of this work can be seen from several different viewpoints. The first aspect is the comparison of single Open Source database systems and retrieval of differences between them. Next aspect is comparison of Open Source products with proprietary system, where the source code can be considered as a business secret. Last but not least aspect is comparison of single types of commands themselves, whereof reader will obtain overview, which commands and language constructs can be used and which ones should be avoided.
Usage of Microsoft SharePoint in small and medium business
Šimek, Jan ; Faina, Michal (advisor) ; Pospíšil, Jaroslav (referee)
This thesis focuses on the possible usage of Microsoft SharePoint in small and medium size companies. The main objective is to introduce a system that came brand new in 2010 and is called the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation and is precisely designed for the given segment of market. The thesis describes the technology with regards to the division of the market, current financial expenses for the company and procedures for obtaining the software. It also contains necessary hardware and software requirements to ensure performance and stability in relation to business processes. Following is the description of a fictitious company in which the system is introduced virtually from the basic product installation, division of the costs needed for training employees to post functionalities suitable for use in a given environment. I find the added value in the practical experience collected during my work on this project. In particular, during installation, set up of rights, simple integration with Active Directory, SQL, and the pre-defined business processes.

Framework for teaching Database Management Systems on VŠE Praha
Turčín, Pavel ; Chlapek, Dušan (advisor) ; Palovská, Helena (referee)
This thesis focuses on design and subsequent realization of e-learning support for the database management systems course. The first step is definition of the e-learning itself as well as other related concepts. Following part analyzes current status of teaching and evaluating students' knowledge and other possible ways to do so without changing the basic course frame defined by the given syllabus. A list of requirements on the software framework is made on basis of this analysis. These requirements are technical (demanded functionality) and economical (costs of installation and maintenance). The most suitable e-learning system is chosen according to these requirements. The chosen system unfortunately does not fulfill all specified requirements and software witch does, is not available. In this case the following step is design and realization of such software. At first are all requirements specified in detail. The software solution is designed as three independently usable applications: Exercise client, Test client and Administrator. Software is implemented in C# programming language. Whole process of implementation is divided into three increments witch corresponds with projected applications. Every increment adds new functionality to existing solution and the output of every increment is fully usable component.
Preparation of test demo database and tuning of SQL commands
Valoušek, Filip ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Chlapek, Dušan (referee)
This bachelor work deals with projecting and implementation of the demo test database, which is used for training work with relational databases. A set of educational queries submissions which enable practising query language SQL (Structured Query Language) is one part of the work. There is a well-arranged table of correct output from data test for all of queries allowing to check correct query setting. In the theoretical part there is a short mention about the principles of databases projecting and data modelling, especially about the "Three schema approaches".
Data analysis and processing to draw up consolidated financial statements of holding company
Filka, Zdeněk ; Doucek, Petr (advisor) ; Klas, Jan (referee)
In my bachelor thesis I deal with the data analysis and processing to draw up consolidated financial statements of holding company. The object of the bachelor thesis is the utilization of the Structured Query Language (SQL) as a tool of extracting data from relational databases. The main aim is to create SQL scripts, which could process data and on the basis of these data create reports, which could subsequently serve as data bases to draw up consolidated financial statements of company XY. The whole thesis is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part, the purpose is to provide the summary of the SQL, particularly that part of it which helps to query data. This part is called the statement SELECT. On simple examples the procedure of extracting desired data outputs is explained using this statement. This description of the SQL can be used and applied on relational databases in business practice. This problem is dealt with in the practical part. Here I first describe business database and structure of its tables from which the desired data are extracted. Then I define the data requirements to consolidated financial statements, and in the end I create SQL scripts.
