Translation of francophone comics
Vyhnalová, Kateřina ; Šotolová, Jovanka (advisor) ; Brunel, Aude (referee)
(in English): The present thesis titled Translation of francophone comics deals with the subject matter of comics translation, while applying both a theoretical and an empirical approach. Particular attention is paid especially to translations from French into Czech. Regarded the fact that Czech science has only scarcely studied the subject so far, the present thesis is conceived as a global introduction to the subject matter with particular focus on some of its partial aspects. The introduction to the theoretical part of the present study defines the main characteristic features of comics as a medium, as these features are closely linked to the particular challenges raised by its translations. The key chapters of the theoretical part go further to the core of the principal subject and focus on setting a general theoretical framework for translation analysis of specific problems linked with comics translations. The most common challenges faced by a comics translator are identified based on the defined characteristics of the Ninth Art and systemized in three main groups defined as technical, cultural and linguistic aspects of translation. While translating comics from French into Czech, the translator's work is also influenced by the radical differences in approaches to the Ninth Art in the Czech...
The Taboo of Death in Contemporary Czech Society
MARTÍNEK, Daniel
The main goal of my thesis is to describe the idea of death and dying, and then to define these. Then I will differentiate and describe various types of death, together with summarizing historical evolution of the approach of society to death, and in the next part I will describe the idea of death as it is seen by the most significant world religions. In theoretical part of my thesis I would like to define the purpose of palliative care and the role social workers play in the process of dying, and define the problematic surrounding euthanasia. The main goal of the practical part is to obtain, evaluate and summarize the approach to death of all the age groups in contemporary czech society. The reasearch will be done with the help of quantitative method in the form of questionnaire. Based on the established hypotheses, I created multiple questions related to the hypotheses, from which I created the questionnaire. The questionnaire also contains identification questions, which are meant to give closer identification of respondents. A graph has been created to every question and each graph has been labeled. Next I will create charts which will evaluate how separate age groups answered the questions. The practical part of the thesis confirmed, that in the present the tabooing of the death is more common with atheists, who do not think about the topic of the death very often. First hypothesis has been confirmed. The hypothesis which assumed that the young people to the age of 24 years are going to be the most afraid ones of the psychic pain while dying, has not been confirmed. Neither has been the hypothesis which assumed the elderly people (60 years and more) are going to be The most common answer among elderly people was the fear of being helpless. The answers were equalized among the youger generation (to the age of 24 years). The third hypothesis also has been confirmed. The answers, to the question of death topic interest, proponents of legalizing euthanasia have shown less interest than opponents.
The history and the present of breastfeeding from a perspective of midwifes
KAŠPAROVÁ, Dominika
From time immemorial, it is known that breastfeeding is the best and most balanced diet that a mother can give her child. Breast milk is irreplaceable mainly because of its composition, which exactly follows the needs of the child at different sessions of its life. Thanks to breastfeeding, the mother and her baby have a relationship that has been developing since the first few minutes after its birth. During breastfeeding, the baby gets a sense of security and love because it is close to his mother. This relationship was not built in earlier times because breastfeeding was the task of wet nurses. Only few women had breastfed their own child. Therefore, a close relationship between the wet nurse and the breastfed child has emerged very frequently. Over time, breastfeeding came to the forefront and more and more women were breastfeeding their children. Breastfeeding was even taken as the most precious gift and ability of each mother, sometimes even as a duty. Today, breastfeeding is supported by both society and healthcare professionals. Thanks to this promotion and support, the number of breast-feeding women is still increasing, on the other hand there are so many women who do not want to breastfeed, so it is important to spread this promotion to society's awareness and thus to fight against the artificial nutrition manufacturers which are and will be on the market. The bachelor thesis is elaborated as theoretical-historical. By analyzing the documents, we have studied the development of breastfeeding from history to the present. In the first chapter of the bachelor thesis, the anatomy of the breast and mammary gland, lactation physiology and the composition of breast milk are theoretically described. In the next chapter, we have approached the profession of midwife and her position in breastfeeding. The third one describes the development of breastfeeding from the Stone Age to the 20th Century. In the last fourth chapter we dealt with breastfeeding at present.
Musical Ensembles in Příbram
BALOUNOVÁ, Michaela
My bachelor thesis consists of the history and present-day of several music ensembles which come from the town of Příbram. In the past, Příbram was one of the main centres of the silver mining industry in the Czech Republic, and in the 20th century it was one of the places of intensive uranium extraction. Mining activities in Příbram had an impact on the town settlement and had created specific circumstances for the local cultural life. The situation has been analogical in the area of Svatá Hora. Despite the fact that mining had been active until the 1990s, Příbram has remained one of the most important cultural centres of the Central Bohemian Region. This is proved by the fact that there are many music ensembles, such as the social and temple orchestras, which are still actively playing. This is what makes the cultural and social life of this town so unique.
Piano Trio in Czech Chamber Music
Pichlíková, Markéta ; Tomášek, Jiří (advisor) ; Perglerová, Marka (referee)
Author's precis The aim of this thesis is to survey the history of piano trio, a chamber ensemble, which has since its very beginnings existed in the shadow of more famous string quartet. No works of literature seem to pay as much attention to the piano trios as to the string quartets. It is also appropriate to analyse the origin and history of the oldest ensemble of this type in Czech, to introduce a list of other contemporary piano trios in our country and give some additional information about them such as short biographies of their members, their history and their concert tours. The first part of this work deals with the origin of chamber music, its development and significance. We will describe a trio as a kind of chamber music composition which has developed from trio sonata and is one of the major types of baroque music. After this era of composing for various groups of three instruments, there comes the standardization of a classical piano trio constitution which has remained the same ever since. The most contributing to the process of its formation were the works of J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart and L. v. Beethoven. Romantic composers use this genre to express their innermost feelings and add to it an entirely new point of view. After this period we get to the 20th century, the time when all all kinds of...
From the sensual experience to the transcendental one in the selected works by: A. Gide and J.M.G. Le Clézio
Vrchovecká, Jana ; Jamek, Václav (advisor) ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (referee)
Jana Vrchovecká: From the sensual experience to the transcendental one The tradition of sensualism or vitalism is rarely represented in the French literature. During the twentieth century several authors tried to revive this tendency. The first apologist was André Gide, whose work Les Nourritures terrestres (1893) was considered as a doctrine of the sensual attitude, and for its spiritual overlap it was even called The New evangel. The deification of the material aspect of the reality becomes the link with the last holder of the Nobel Literature Prize: Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio. In his early essay: L'Extase matérielle (1968) he also exalts the sensual experience as the base of the transcendental one. The first part of the work compares the authors' sensual attitude in the mentioned works by the analyse of the particular senses. The synchronic participation of all them should provoke the second state of consciousness whose first grade is the ecstasy and the most desired one is the prophetic mind. The second part analyses the factors that contribute to this double objective. The necessary condition is the anchoring in the present moment. Both the authors worship the cult of the Sun which substitutes the traditional notion of the God. However, the individual must also cut out the bonds that impede...

The result of my research should show, if there is a need to more inform young people about these disorders and by this precede a rising of eating disorders. I dividend my development into two parts: Theoretical part: In theoretical part I did aim to eating...

Outsiders in the Works of Tennessee Williams and Sam Shepard
Kecerová, Martina ; Wallace, Clare (advisor) ; Ulmanová, Hana (referee)
This thesis analyzes characters - outsiders that appear in the plays The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire written by Tennessee Williams and True West and Fool for Love by Sam Shepard. These outsiders are always singled out from somewhere and they have difficulties to fit in a relationship, society or the physical environment in which they are found. They have been outsiders their entire lives, thus the past is as important as the present. These characters were classified as outsiders because they cannot or do not want to fit in a majority, belong to one specific place and adjust to environment. Consequently, they often use various means to fight against the reality that they are not part of instead of accepting it. In the introduction of the thesis I explain that even though there is a gap of several decades between the works of both authors and their style of writing is considerably different, we can still find the similar characters that are lost in reality. In this section of the thesis I also discuss the fact that the way authors describe the characters can be related to their own lives and experiences that formed them. Tennessee Williams, since a child, was very sensitive and different from other children and later-confessed homosexuality also made him an outsider. This can be later...
