The Natural Methods of Education and Training Horses and Their Kind of Use
MINDLOVÁ, Marie
Bachelor thesis summarizes literature documents related to use of natural methods of education and training horses (called Natural Horsemanship), including the importance of history and development of the methods used in the Czech Republic and abroad and the most important representatives of these methods. Own research includes the evaluation questionnaires 81 respondents, summarizing the use of natural methods of education and training horses in southwestern Bohemia. The aim of the study was evaluation and specification the differences between the breeders of horses using traditional and natural methods of training in terms of number and kind of horses, the length and orientation of breeding, bred breeds and the metod of use of horses in various equestrian disciplines. The questionnaire contained 16 questions. The result of this research is shown in the graphs and tables. The results of the questionnaire show natural methods of training horses begin to penetrate among horse owners in southwest Bohemia, mostly in the form of courses and also through the Internet. However several farmers have adequate mentoring of the active exploitation of these natural methods. Natural methods are still the most widespread among owners who own less horses (2-4 horses), cattle deal shorter period of time (5-7 years) and using their horses only to the tourist or recreational riding, major expansion among sport riders (except western disciplines) are still missing. Bred breeds Qarter horse, Haflinger, Czech Warmblood, Appaloosa and hybrids are the most used horses among the farmers which use natural method of training. The most widespread method is Pat Parelli´s method. Most breeders working with natural methods of training horses are very experienced in solving troubles concluding with the behavior of their horses and also indicate improving of confidence and co-operation during their aplication.
Abnormal behavior of horses
KOHOUTOVÁ, Monika
Abnormal behaviour of horses is a problematic behaviour that occurs mainly in horses domesticated or held in captivity due to the effect of incorrect breeding methods or improper handling with these animals. A part of abnormal behaviour is also stereotyped behaviour which is main target of this thesis. There are many causes of stereotyped behaviour. It could be a trauma during early weaning, lack of physical activity, an impact of nutrition, genetics and other factors. It is difficult to find out the true cause of stereotyped behaviour and it is even harder to remove these stereotypes. However the reduction of symptoms is almost always possible. The aim of the thesis was explanation, based on literature review, of the concept of stereotyped behaviour of horses, describe its symptoms, causes and suggest possible ways of removing. Another aim of the thesis was monitoring of stereotyped behaviour using a questionnaire survey within the Czech Republic. The information gathered from survey consisted of causes of stereotyped behaviour ? e.g. age, rearing, use (work, riding etc.), breed, temperament, attendance of other horses etc. The aim was not only the evaluation of occurrences of horse?s stereotyped behaviour, but with the help of gathered information in the literature review, propose the possibilities of reducing unwanted behaviour and suggest precautions in horses who do not have evident manifestations of unwanted behaviour yet.
Nutrition of sport horses focused for the eventing competition
SEDLÁKOVÁ, Kristýna
This thesis assesses a systems of the feeding and nutrition of sporting horses which are specialized for the eventing. It deals with a requirement of the energy, individual nutrients, minerals and vitamins. Also it deals with a technology of the feeding horses at each period of the training. The own work is interested in classification of the intake of the energy and amount of the nutrients in the feeding rations at the season of the training, season of the races and at time of the rest in the winter. The feeding rations are assessed in a group of nine horses of the various breeds, age, weight and performance. The discovered values has been compared with the standard nutrient requirements for horses. The monitored values have been: energy, digestible crude protein, various macro and micronutrients, vitamin A and vitamin E. It has followed from the results that the feeding of the horses is individual thing. Intake of the energy and nutrients was tolerated in all cases
Analysis of genetic disposition of colouring in selected populations in the Czech Republic
BALCAROVÁ, Anna

Use of performance testing results in warmblood horse breeding
VOKROUHLÍKOVÁ, Jana
Objective of the work was to analyze the results of performance testing and their usage in warmblood horses breeding. The active Czech warmblood stallions registered in The Czech warmblood breeders association on the list of stallions in 2012, were summarized into the overview. The results of mare performance tests (daughters of sires) and the results of offspring in jumping competitions were used for the analysis of the stallions. Stallions were divided according to available offspring data into three groups. The first group contains stallions who still can not have offspring in sport (young stallions), in the second group are stallions with no available record about the offsrping. The stallions in the third group have daughters passed the performance tests and offspring in sports, therefore we have analyzed this third group in detail. Stallions were ranked by the number of offspring and by the performance results of their offspring. Based on average results of the mare performance tests and the average number of points in jumping competitions were selected the top stallions, who also had to meet a criterion of the number of offspring (min. 10 mares on performance tests and min. 6 offspring in sport). Own performance and the performance of the progeny of these top ten stallions was compared with other equally or even more frequent stallions. Based on the results of mare performance tests and sports performance of the offspring were best assessed stallions: Comero, Phill, Le Patron, Radegast, Sargoni, Manillon Rouge, Amarillo, Dantes, Rock´n Roll and Calanthano. These all stallions met the criterion of the number of offspring. The breeder selection of the stallion doesn´t follow performance results and the number of offspring doesn´t copy the quality of the stallion, it means, that the selection of the stallion for each mare is based on other circumnstances. It means that the results of performance testing were not used in Czech warmblood breeding.
"..and he must be able to ride the horse primarily, and the grammar afterwards." The nobleman and the horse in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
KRAMPEROVÁ, Petra
The presented degree work sets the aim of introducing one of typical displays of aristocratic life - horse riding and horse racing ? in the actual example of primogeniture and secondo geniture of the noble family Schwarzenberg in the 19th and early 20th centuries. As the basic information sources there were used aristocratic large estates collections, some sources of personal character and, last but not least, iconographic sources. The first part of work deals with the horse-breeding at aristocratic estates. It acquaints with the organization of horse raising on Schwarzenberg horse-breeding farms, raised horse breeds, and clarifies the purposes of raising such animals. Above all, this part asks the question to what extent the nobleman himself participated in the organization of horse breeding and what personal relationship to these creatures he experienced. The second part introduces in detail some activities which brought gentlefolk diversion and enjoyment, especially horse races, equestrianism, carousels, and of course, hunts and hunting pastime. All these activities were the privilege of upper classes, but in the 19th century they greatly influenced the other social classes and became the base for modern equestrianism we know today. The last part dwells on horses with relation to the arts. This noble animal has always been the Muse of artists and the symbol of nobility, elegance, speed and power. Till now in the castle collections we have been tracing a large number of horse portraits (either with their noble owners or without them) and horse- riding scenes. Even the horse equipment - harness, sledge or horse-drawn couches - were reflected in arts. And such equipment could have been displayed as a work of art in noble family galleries, or at least created the period atmosphere of magnificent winter man?ges.
Abnormal behavior in horses
LISCOVÁ, Veronika
The aim of this Bachelor´s work was based of literary sources to explain the concept of stereotypic behavior in horses, to describe his symptoms, causes and outline possible ways to eliminate it. A sub-aim was, based on my own monitoring on the selected farm, to catch occurrences of stereotypic expressions in horses, and on the base of information found in literary sources, suggest ways to eliminate or reduce it from breeding. Another sub-aim was to catch the prevalence of stereotypic behavior in breeding horses with different numbers of horses, by way of housing, use of horses, the breed of horses, etc. - this part has been studied by the survey in the CR. Stereotypical behavior is the problem behavior, which is mainly in horses domesticated and kept in captivity, due the wrong farming methods or wrong handling of these animals. The causes of stereotypic behavior, whether trauma at the time of early weaning, lack of exercise, due the nutrition, genetics and other factors are many. It is therefore very difficult to find the right cause of stereotypic behavior. Based on the selected monitor their own farm, out of a total of 70 horses kept stereotypic behavior observed in only 7 horses, that is 10 %. The farm horses were stabled in the box housing (34 horses), free housing (34 horses) and tethering (2 horses). From seven stereotyped horses were in six (85.71 %) reported wood chewing and one horse (14,29 %) were found to clapping the lips. The best way is the stabling of horses on pasture year-round stays or in the paddock, because with enough movement during the year there has been no incidence of stereotypic behavior. By ensuring such conditions would contribute to good physical and mental well-being of horses. Based on the survey, which responded to 47 farms in the Czech Republic with a total of 825 horses kept, it was found that the extension of stereotypic behavior occurred in 24, 12 % or 199 horses. Incidence of individual stereotypes were as follows: 33 horses (16.58 %) wind-sucking, 19 horses (9.55 %) weaving, 80 horses (40.20 %) wood-chewing and other equipment boxing at 42 horses (21.11 %) aggression, in 14 horses (2.02%), box-walking, 9 horses afflicted with headshaking (4.52 %) and self-mutilation in 2 horses (0.01 %). The most stereotypes were occurred in box horses and at 94.98 % that is 189 horses.
