Prague grammar schools teachers during the time of so called normalisation

A professional life of secondary school teachers of Czech gymnasiums (rough equivalent of British grammar schools) in so called normalization period is presented in this thesis using autobiographical recounting, contemporary documents and archival materials. The author mentions the choosing of their careers, their studies and ensuing start of their teaching practice that took place in late sixties. Author puts emphasis on mapping of the leading role of the Communist party of Czechoslovakia in the workplace during the so called normalization period and how it was perceived by the teachers themselves. Author shows the role of the communist party using teacher's reviews, entrance examinations and complex assessments. Later on, author elaborates the mechanisms used to keep school "socialistic" up to the year 1989: controls, deliberations and meetings, schoolings, school phraseology, material provision, anniversary celebrations, voluntary works, skiing and defense courses, sister trips and teacher's role in society. In the end, the thesis maps a downfall of communist party's leading role at schools and the transition to a democratic education after the year 1989.

This bachelor thesis deals with the different picture of the political process with the "anti - state conspiracy center" headed by R. Slánský in the academic literature and press. The aim of the thesis is to compare the picture from the academic introduction as the historical event and the picture from the contemporary press. This will describe the functioning of the censorship and propaganda in the contemporary media. I have based the detailed insight into the nature of the preparation and realization of the process on archival materials and other sources, which illustrate the key political decisions and which demonstrate their, in accordance with the intentions of the propaganda, distorted reflection on selected daily newspapers. The quantitative content method has been used in the practical part as a research method. Through this method, articles from the contemporary press are processed. Through the evaluation of the research, clear conclusions have been reached. Those conclusions have been used in order to compare the picture of the process in the academic literature and in the censored daily press. The study "Democrat Petr Zenkl (from teaching to the exile)" is a complex political monography of one of the most important Czechoslovak politicians, PhDr. Petr Zenkl. It focuses on his resistance to the rule of Austria-Hungary, his early activities and the beginnings of his political career, his municipal work in Prague, his participation in the governments of the First and Third Czechoslovak republic, his career in the Czechoslovak National Socialist Party and his leading role among anti-comunist exiles in the USA during the Cold War.
Jazz section - civil society and totalitarian power in Czechoslovakia at seventies and eighties of 20th century

Jazz section, founded in 1971, was amateur organization of musicians and enthusiasts, which organized concerts and exhibitions, published magazines and books, and made "culture" in general. Due to circumstances in the former Czechoslovakia, when every different and self- contained tendency was repressed, the Section, as a representative of alternative and independent culture, became a target in view-finder of establishment and its power. In the course of time was the press on the Section escalated and it resulted in persecusions, restrictions and finally in judicial process with some of the members. In the story of Jazz section is reflected both manner of social-cultural-political systems and structures standing against each other - concept of the civic society is characterized by plurality, independence and freedom, and on the other side the totalitarian regime is distinguished by power apparatus and instruments of its control. Czechoslovak Communist Party's Attitudes toward Internal Political Crises in some European Countries in the first half of the 1920s

This thesis focuses on attitudes of Communist party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) towards internal political crises in European countries in the first half of 1920s. Taking into consideration the theory of internationalization of the class struggle (which was officialy proclaimed by Comintern), it analyzes the party's efforts in this field during the first period of its existence. During the research, primary sources have the priority, especially party meetings' records, documents concerning party's organizational branches, published editions of party's conferences, parliament protocols of speeches held by communist deputies etc. Newspapers and other periodical press are also taken into consideration. The text respects the chronological order of events and investigates the given issue in separate periods, which are: a) time immediately after the foundation of the party (covers with the time of Habsburg restauration attempt) b) the rise of Italian fascism c) first part of revolutional events in Bulgaria (till Ljapacev's goverment being installed in January 1926). Profile of Novinář Publishing House

The thesis "The Novinář Publishing House Profile" deals with the establishment, structure and production of Novinář publishing house. The first part of the thesis describes the historical events and implications that preceded the creation of Novinář and that had an impact on its activity. A separate chapter refers to conditions and circumstances of publishing specialized books and periodicals for journalists, i. e. the legislature in force and authorities that made decisions regarding the establishment of publishing houses, the editorial work of organizations and the content of books and other publications. One part of the thesis deals also with the education of journalists (through courses, newly established university studies), enhancing their expertise and qualification and the quality of their work, as well as with the related need for specialized publications for journalists and other reasons that led to the creation of Novinář publishing house. The second part of the thesis describes the establishment and operation of Novinář publishing house, its organizational structure and editorial and publishing work (books, journals, other publications). The last chapter presents important people that were involved in creation and operation of the publishing house (the directors).
Communist Party of Czechoslovakia during the First Republic: Party Bolshevization and its Position towards the Czechoslovak Republic

Diploma thesis "Communist Party of Czechoslovakia during the First Republic: Party Bolshevization and its Position towards the Czechoslovak Republic" deals with events and processes inside Communist party of Czechoslovakia in the twenties of the 20th century, while it is mainly focused on bolshevizing pressures, which causes long series of related crises in CPC. To describe these problems, study using method of intrinsic case study. Text starts with definition of bolshevization itself, while there is attempt to unify several approaches to bolshevization. Author tries to use wide range of literature, from Communist historiography to later and foreign sources, while both are heavily combined. The text is arranged in chronological order and tries to describe bolshevization steps from several angles. The main focus is especially put on situation and processes inside party, but study does not ignore an important external factor, the interventions of Communist international to party development. In total, the thesis illustrating and describing transformation of party organizational structure and changes in program basis during twenties and early thirties and puts them in context to overall party relationship with Czechoslovak state.
Gustáv Husák in a Cause of the Slovak Bourgeois Nationalism

The thesis deals with the Czechoslovak communist politician Gustáv Husák in connection with the cause of the Slovak bourgeois nationalism. It is structured chronologically, sometimes interspersed with thematic areas. It draws from a wide variety of sources. The prevailing approach is positivistic and analytical. The aim is to explain the emergence of the cause of the Slovak bourgeois nationalism and the way in which Husák was incorporated into it. The work points to a pivotal link with the international context and reveals poor relations between leading Party officials. Furthermore, the thesis raises issues of Husák's political fall, fabricated charges, imprisonment and subsequently the complexity of the rehabilitation process, at the end of which Husák's Communist Party membership was restored and a further political career remained a possibility. Additionally, the text tries to consider to a large extent the social relations between different participants and understand their motives of behavior. All of this is also put into perspective with respect to Czech-Slovak relations, which were significantly influenced by the aforementioned cause. The intention of the work deliberately exceeds the biographical theme.
Communist Women in the 1920s

"Communist Women in the 1920s" is about the women, who established the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and worked to build it up. It describes women of Czech nationality in the territory of the Czech lands during the period 1921-1929. The focus is mostly on the women's headquarters, which directed the work. Following political, social-economical and cultural levels, interest is also paid to the psychological aspect. The theses is divided into thematical chapters, each depicting events chronologically. The introductory chapter presents the reasons, why some women turned to the left and others to the right in the Social Democratic Party. Subsequent chapters describe the organization of women in the Communist Party, their concrete workload, life style of working-class women and functionaries, relations with the Soviet Russia, intraparty political development, comparison with other parties and biographies of female communist functionaries. In this work were used archival materials (mostly records of party meetings and personal materials located in the National Archive in Prague), contemporary women's newspapers and memoires of women.
