The need of lifelong education health care workers for assuring the nursing care in residential homes
MARTINOVSKÁ, Jaroslava
This paper is concerned with life-long learning during nursing practice in retirement homes. New advancements in the medical field foster the need for continual improvement of knowledge of nurses who work in these homes. Nurses play essential role in these institutions, and that is why they, their opinions, and their options have been chosen as a target for research. Theoretical part of this paper has been concerned with overall characteristics of the nursing profession; developments in nurse's education; characteristics and needs of aged people; and overall nurse-client relationship in retirement homes. The goal of the research was to find out opinions about, and options of life-long learning of medical workers in these institutions. Before the actual research, two hypotheses have been stated: H1 - retirement-home nursing staff must be educated on continuous basis; and H2 - retirement-homes do not offer such education. The actual research has been carried out through questionnaires, and standardised interviews. The research has revealed that the nursing staff is in need of life-long learning, and that retirement home institutions are satisfied with this fact, and support their nurses in the pursuit for education. Thus, hypothesis 1 has been confirmed; hypothesis 2 has not been confirmed. Based on the conclusive evidence of this research, some improvements have been proposed to nurses, and to management staff in the relevant retirement-homes.

Consequence of the approval of the Law on Social Services for the operation of a specific facility
NOVOTNÝ, Miroslav
This paper was prepared with the goal of mapping the changes brought by the Law on Social Services, no. 108/2006 Coll., in a specific facility. It was developed from the prospective of the personnel of a senior home. In the theory part, this work focuses first on the definition of the social services themselves, which factors affect them and their importance for the public. The next chapter, named Development of the Legislation of the Public Social Protection System, clarifies the transfer from social security to public social protection. Another chapter is devoted to the legislation attempting to create a comprehensive legal form, which would replace the at that time unsatisfactory social care system. The following chapters characterize, in detail, the individual parts of the new social services law, what will be influence by this law, for example the standards of quality of the social services, its check in form of an inspection from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs or a Municipal Authority. This paper also gradually focuses on the new social benefit, its purpose, amount, for whom it is designed and when the right for its payment arises. The Social Services Law is, towards the end of the theory part of this paper, the subject of a critical evaluation in the form of a SWAT analysis. Two hypotheses have been determined to meet the goal of this paper. A questionnaire survey and non-standardized interview were used during the research. The research sample was the nursing and social personnel of the Senior Home in Sněženková ulice in Prague. The questionnaire investigation and the non-standardized interviews confirmed hypothesis no. 1, which holds the opinion that, due to the influence of the social services law, the work demands on the management of the individual social services facilities will grow. The research also corfirmed hypothesis no. 2, which presumes the growth of the nursing care due to the change of the system of financing the social services and the consequent changes of client structure. Furthermore, it was proven that the law can meet its main mission {--} the preventive influence against social exclusion.

The cooperation of family members and healthcare staff in the care of seniors in rest homes
SLADKÁ, Iveta
Abstract Old age is an inevitable part of every living being`s life. It is the final time phase of life with a lot of changes a person has to deal with. The overall physical appearance is changing, the number of wrinkles is rising, the hair turns grey, the muscular strenght is decreasing and the memory fails. Also, there are psychological and social changes taking place. Old people become emotionally unstable and their personality is changing. The characteristics of their personality is intensifying. The intensity of relationships with close ones does not usually change. On the contrary, the family importance is yet again on the rise with passing years. An old person usually keeps the important role of a parent, grandparent, perhaps even great-grandparent. Just like an old person performs an irreplaceable family role, the family performs an irreplaceable role in taking care of this old person as well. It used to be common that children took care of their old parents, nowadays` society puts self-sufficiency, independency and economic profits first. It is much easier for many families to provide their aging members with professional care rather than rearrange their own to meet their needs. Old people feel that leaving their home, their place means leaving behind the past with everything that their lives have consisted of. To enter the world of social-service facilities is a very serious matter. The employees of these facilities, as well as the family, have to realize that this change is very challenging, and they have to be especially supportive to help the elders overcome this difficult part of their lives. The purpose of this work was to find out if family members try to participate in caregiving and if they cooperative with the healthcare professionals. Two assumptions have been reached: family members take an active part in caregiving for the elders in RH (retirement homes) (A1) and (A2) family members cooperative with healthcare professionals in caregiving for the elders in RH. A quantitative research has been used to compose this practical part of Bachelor task on the topic {\clqq} Cooperation of family members witha healtcare professionals in the care of elders in RH``. The method of survey polling was use to collect all data. Observational group from RH Máj and RH ÚSP Hvízdal in České Budějovice, RH Mistra Křišťana in Prachatice and RH Hluboká nad Vltavou. There were 80 question-form handed out to RH` s clients and 100 forms to the personnel. These forms were kept anonymous and consisted of 17 questions for seniors and 13 for personnel. The results suggest that 55 clients get regular visits from their family members, 67,7 % of those questioned replied that their family members take an active role in the care for them while 40,3 % of the nurses stated that the families take an active role in the care and 33 % of nurses further stated that the families get involved in the care occasionaly. 40,3 % of the nurses confirm that the families actively seek a way to cooperate with the healthcare personnel and 75,7 % clients` answers confirm that majority of the families cooperate with the healthcare personnel. Both the assumptions have been proved correct. The result of this research can serve not only to the families with their uneasy part as caregivers but also to the families who do not take an active part in care for the senior and boost their interest in the care for the senior. At the same time I would like to appeal to the healthcare personnel and encourage them to be active in seeking a cooperation with the families.
