Figala, J. ; Lojková, L. ; Lvončík, S. ; Hohnová, Barbora ; Moravcová, Dana ; Formánek, P.
Invasive plant Ambrosia artemisiifolia (Asteraceae) of North American origin is an important agricultural weed in Europe and also occupies large non-crop areas with a range that is likely to accelerate under climate change. Its pollen grains are noxious aeroallergens and cause summer hay fever. Knowledge on allelopathic effect of root exudates of Ambrosia artemisiifolia on germination and growth of plant species are presented in this work.

Výroba, sortiment a kvalita fermentovaných mléčných výrobků
Nováková, Romana
Fermented dairy products are among the traditional dairy products. Among consumers of these products are very popular, thanks to the diverse composition and for its dietary and therapeutic effect. For production, the use so called. starters, which culture is composed of one or more species or strains of lactic acid bacteria. The basic principle is the production of lactic fermentation, which adds durability, causing changes in sensory properties and increases the nutritional value of products. This work is focused on less traditional products, mainly on the Nordic fermented milk. Generally, these products are characterized by their characteristic flavor and very viscous and sticky texture. In the context of this thesis was created questionnaire and compared the sensory quality of the three selected products.

Legumes and problems with their higher consumption
KŘÍŽOVÁ, Zuzana
The thesis deals with the class of legumes and the issue of their greater consumption. The theoretical part describes a class of legumes in general including some information about the production, cultivation, harvest and storage. This part also includes a description of the main species of legumes, their production, chemical structure, the content of anti-nutritional substances and the form of some culinary efforts. The thesis also summarises the most well-known legume products and their quality as well as the non-food products. The practical part uses the questionnaire survey to answer the questions of legume consumption, how favourite legumes are, and is looking for the cause of their low consumption. 309 respondents took part in this survey one boy younger than 15 years, 4 girls younger than 15 years, 21 men aged between 16 and 25 years, 159 women aged between 16 and 25, 19 men aged between 26 and 55 years, 82 women aged between 26 and 55 years, 13 men older than 56 years and 10 women older than 56 years. The analysis of the results constitutes graphs and tables. The results show that most of the respondents like legumes and 84% of them eat legumes once a month or even more often. Legumes are eaten mostly at home, as 79% of the respondents claimed. On the other hand, the respondents are not able to cook legumes so that they eliminate the excessive flatulence, as was claimed by 67% of the respondents. Because of this fact not only propagating legumes is important, but also providing some information how to cook it before consumption. Despite home consumption, as was claimed by the 84% of respondents, the respondents were given a question of their opinion on the amount of available legume food in restaurants. The results show that 48% of the respondents find the range of legume inadequate and assume they would eat legumes more often if the range of legumes was wider. 25% of the queried find the range wrong and despite the range extension they would not eat legumes in restaurants. 19% of the queried do not care about the situation at all or they are not provided by enough information. 9% of the respondents find the range of legumes adequate. The thesis also analysed the consumption differences between various age groups and gender and different preference between women and men. The statistic assessment was comparing the issues of my questionnaire survey including the statistic units executed in 2011. This statistic assessment executed the question n. 3, which dealt with the frequency of the legume consumption.

Acidification of soils, methods of suppression and support and the importance of hydrolytic acidity
NOVÁK, Jiří
Literature search was processed, which were explained in general terms related to acidification, methods of formation and repression. Acidification is one of the main causes of soil degradation. It has considerable influence on soil properties and plants that primarily affects the mobility change some elements. Second part was based on periodic measurements of the Central Control and Testing Institute in Agriculture (CISTA) measure rates of exposure of soil acidification in the Czech Republic. From the obtained data shows that the rate of acidification is large and covers almost the entire territory of the Czech Republic. It was also found that the most endangered species of agricultural land is permanent grassland, in terms of positions are threatened by acidification of mountain, foothill soils and land on the hills. The soils in the lowlands have proved to be relatively stable to acidification.

House sparrow and tree sparrow in the rural settlements of Tabor region - density, distribution a their correlates
NEŠPOR, Marek
The theoretical part of my thesis was to characterize the house sparrow as a most abundant synanthropic bird species. I mentioned decline in abundance around the area and a decline in numbers in the Czech Republic and all available information on the causes of the decline. My goal in the practical field part was to determine the abundance and distribution of house and tree sparrow in the selected villages, to determine whether the abundance and distribution influence the characteristics of villages and individual buildings. The project was conducted in cooperation with the Faculty of Science of South Bohemia in Czech Budweis, ISBE AS CR, v.v.i and CSO.

Cathepsin L from the hard tick Ixodes ricinus
Talacko, Pavel ; Entlicher, Gustav (referee) ; Konvalinka, Jan (advisor)
Ticks are globally important parasites involved in transmission of a wide variety of infectious agents. The most common tick species found in Europe is the hard tick Ixodes ricinus, which transmits bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi (a causative agent of Lyme disease) or tick-borne encephalitis virus. Cathepsin proteases are important in the process of digestion of blood proteins in the tick gut. This work is focused on cathepsin L, an important digestive cysteine protease of ticks. Recombinant I. ricinus cathepsin L was expressed in Pichia pastoris and separated from the culture medium by chromatographic purification. N-terminal protein sequencing and labeling by activity-based probe Green-DCG-04 were used for characterization of purified cathepsin L. Substrate and inhibitor specificity were analyzed using peptide substrates and inhibitors. This analysis showed that Z-FR-AMC is a suitable substrate with pH optimum 3.5, and that Z-FF-DMK is an efficient inhibitor. It was demonstrated that cathepsin L cleaves protein substrates in strongly acidic environment (pH 3.5-4.5). Cathepsin L-like proteolytic activity was demonstrated in salivary gland extract and in saliva of the I. ricinus tick. The presence of a cathepsin protease in tick saliva is reported here for the first time. This finding suggests that...

Effect of iron overload on the induction of apoptosis in mammalian cells
Kabíčková, Tereza ; Balušíková, Kamila (advisor) ; Klíma, Martin (referee)
Iron cations are an important metal ions required to number of essential cell functions. On the other hand, ferrous iron can be very toxic as well. When surplus iron is present in cells, it can catalyze the formation of reactive oxygen species (especially hydroxyl radicals) by Fenton reaction. Iron homeostasis is predominantly regulated by very strict mechanisms on the level of iron uptake into the body. Moreover, iron absorption, transport and storage within the body can be also regulated using complex mechanisms which differ on the level of individual cells and on the level of whole organism. Deregulation of iron homeostasis causing an iron overload and generation of reactive oxygen radicals can evoke serious cell damage leading up to apoptotic cell death. Excess iron storage and subsequent development of oxidative stress can affect lot of different tissues in the body. The organ damages such as fibrosis, cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, heart failure, loss of β cells and glucose intolerance or diabetes mellitus in patients with iron overload are very often seen. Nevertheless, the apoptosis induced by iron overload has not been well elucidated yet. There are no complex informations about the precise mechanism by which oxidative stress affects different cell types or whether there are other...

Mitášová, Michaela ; Ducháček, Lubomír (advisor) ; Lamka, Jiří (referee)
VETERINARIES REGISTERED IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC - DEVELOPING TRENDS Michaela Mitášová Abstract The aim of this dissertation was to make a summary of veterinary medical preparations registered in years 1995 - 2006 in the Czech Republic. Individual preparations were reviewed in these categories: 1. Registry number and the SUKL code 2. The land of producer 3. Drug form 4. Indicating group 5. Animal species to which the drug is intended for 6. Newly registered medical preparations We were comparing the period of years 1995 - 2000 and 2001 - 2006. The head task of this dissertation was to map out developing trends in individual categories. As the main source for getting data we used the AISLP programme. For the period of years 1995 - 2000 it was version 2000. 3 actualised by 1. 7. 2000, for the period of years 2001 - 2006 it was version 2007. 2 actualised by 1. 4. 2007. After we got all necessary information we made a conclusion that in years 1995 - 2000 there is a considerable fall of registration of preparations. On the contrary in years 2001 - 2006 there is mild increase with the maximum of registration of preparations in 2004 and following intense fall. The rise of the registration of prepararions was caused by increase of numer of newly registered effective preparations in different drug forms and increase of...
