Role of a writer in selected metafictional novels
Šulcová, Eva ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
The role of a writer in selected metafictional novels Bc. Eva Šulcová Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the genre of metafictional novel. The aim of the diploma thesis is to identify various internal motivations for the usage of metafiction technique in literature and to describe the role of a writer. The first part summarizes the theoretical background of the genre and formulates some characteristic features of metafictional novel (emphasized vicariousness of the narrative, reflection of the creative act, personality of the writer, or the problematized relationship between reality and fiction), which were all illustrated by the analysis of André Gide's novel The Counterfeiters. The second part consists of interpretations of three metafictional novels. The interpretations aim at a complex analysis of the author and at a description of various functions of the metafiction technique as a constituent of the work's meaning. Gide uses metafiction to display the discrepancy between reality and illusion, thus uncovering hypocrisies of society and passing judgement on it. To Čapek, metafiction is a tool for applying multiperspectivity to his storyline, thus creating a metaphor of varying epistemic principles. Metafictional genre was further utilized by Řezáč in his novel Rozhraní to illustrate the polarity...

The fourth chapter focuses on viewers' emotion in sports cinematography. On the background of previous conclusions and observing spectators' emotional responses in real sport here the work highlights the importance of experiencing emotions in fictional worlds of sports films. Cognitive Sciences and the Paradox of Fiction
Staniševská, Aneta ; Zuska, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Kulka, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis being presented concerns an issue of the paradox of fiction viewed as a theme of anglo- american aesthetics of a second half of the twentieth century in a reflection of Colin Radford's thoughts and considerations of his critics. It also tries to regard emotional responses to fiction, disputable and paradoxical from Radford's point of view, within a "foreign" context of cognitive sciences, fragments of Antonio Damasio's theories especially, which could be able to provide a new perspective for the problem in question. Thesis definitely does not present itself as ambitiously reaching for a goal neither of grasping these theories in their complexity nor of solving the paradox but wants to elucidate the basis of it and put them in motion. For doing so, it uses selected and particular thoughts of a scientist who concerns with a phenomenon of emotions and their fundamental role in a human cognition and thinking. First chapter thus deals with Radford's formulation which is fundamental for whole problem as we assume. Second chapter provides insight to the complex of the criticism surrounding Radford's formulation in question. Some considerations appear significant for later synchronization with fragments of Damasio's theories in a way shown in the third chapter. Key words emotion, quasi-emotion,...
The distinction between fiction and reality in the film
Girardová de Villars, Hana ; Fišerová, Michaela (advisor) ; Češka, Jakub (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the distinction between fiction and reality in the film using the theory of fictional worlds. It analyzes the effect of fictional worlds and their characters on the viewer's perception and interpretation of fiction. It emphasizes the difference of the impact of fiction on reality, depending on whether the recipient evaluates the fictional work by its relation to reality or realizes that the film doesn't refer to the actual world. The thesis describes the main concepts and problems of the theory of fictional worlds and applies them to the examples of films to show the importance of distinguishing the line between fiction and reality.

Crossover
Tejnorová, Petra ; KLÍMA, Miloslav (advisor) ; KROBOT, Miroslav (referee)
This dissertation entitled CROSSOVER, between the layers of my own staging experience, on the boundaries of forms, genres and not only those, is divided into three parts. All sections are primarily based on my own theatre experience and are interlaced with numerous examples from performances and theatrically performative thinking of selected foreign ensembles. Given the subject matter, the first part primarily deals with Gob Squad and Shunt ensembles and the director Mike Leigh. In the second part, Rimini Protokoll and again Gob Squad are mentioned. The third part is dedicated mainly to the director Tim Etchells and his Forced Entertainment ensemble. My theatre experience is presented in the introductory part of this dissertation; starting with complex shows which represent a symbiosis of all components and are linked by their staging style and formerly discovered drama methods to authorial/devised projects to theatre which implements documentary and technological elements. In the first part of this dissertation, differences and subtle nuances between authorial and devised theatres are examined with focus on the specific devising creative method. The second part of the dissertation is focused on documentary and technologies. The third part consists of subtopics introduced in the previous chapters with respect to crossing boundaries between forms, genres and methodologies, which are more closely related to the phenomena of boundaries between theatre performances/events, fiction/reality, spectator/witness, actor/performer. The methods or the optics with which I work are based on the phenomenon of the mentioned areas and topics. The manner of addressing the issue can be likened to a phenomenological insight.
The Borders of Fiction
SEVERA, Tomáš
The submitted master's thesis focuses on issues of fiction. First, it pursues the competing definitions of the term itself in order to define it as non-referential sign afterwards. In chapters two to four it presents and comments three traditional approaches to fiction formal, semantic and pragmatic. In chapter five, which is the largest one of the entire work, it addresses in the writings of theorists who largely try to move around the presumed border between fictional and factual narration, usually represented by historiographical works. And finally in chapter six it deals with insights brought to the traditional theories of fiction by two versions of relatively new discipline the simulation theory.
Aesthetic Distance in Fiction and Fictional Worlds
DURASOVÁ, Renata
This bachelor thesis focuses on the problems of aesthetic distance and its expressions in fiction and fictional worlds. It analyses texts dealing with the theory of fiction and searches them for a certain mode of dissociation, which can be identified with the concept of psychical distance. Based on illustrative examples concerning aesthetic situations, it shows that psychical distance is an artistic principle derived from the recipient's attitude, and therefore a basic factor for the formation of fictional worlds as such.
