Democratic Party's Foreign Policy Voting: A Network Analysis

This paper analyzes the voting behavior of Democratic Party members in the 117th Congress. Specifically, it examines roll call votes related to U.S. foreign policy. Namely, it examines votes on funding allocations for the two major policy departments of the executive branch - the Department of State and the Department of Defense, votes on resolutions, and other legislative actions in which Congress has jurisdiction over U.S. foreign policy. More particularly, this study is interested in the voting behavior of members of the so-called "Congressional Progressive Caucus" (CPC), one of the ideological caucuses in the U.S. Congress that has been gaining political strength, especially in recent years. The aim of the study is to show whether the "Progressive Caucus" has developed to be a political force that is already showing tendencies to vote differently from the rest of the Democratic Party, or which specific members of Congress are potentially in positions to mediate between the "CPC" and the rest of the party on foreign policy issues. The study uses the social network analysis methodology to process and project data on the voting patterns of individual members of Congress.
Digital Discourse Analysis of Posthumanism in Open Access Academia

Digital Discourse Analysis of Posthumanism in Open Access Academia Abstract In light of Human actions leading to an earth wide ecological breakdown it is importance to reflect upon the construction of the notion of 'Human' and how people's ideas of 'their being' is evolving and changing. At the same time, there has been a recent emergence of the term 'Posthuman' in academic literature. In a very general form, the term is implying something that is after 'human'. However, due to its newness it is yet ambiguous. Thus, this paper conducts a digital discourse analysis to identify the different senses of the term as used in open access academia, investigates the other important objects in the discursive sphere and describe the power configuration in the discursive sphere. Findings suggests three major senses of the term, (1) 'Posthuman processes'. (2) 'Posthuman beings' and (3) 'Posthuman perspectives'. Salience of 'novel socio- technical processes', 'human enhancement technologies' and 'new perspectives of beings' is found in the discursive sphere. Further, influential or powerful authors and ideas in the sphere are also identified.
Detection of Malware Communication in Network Flows

This thesis deals with the issue of network communication of malicious code, methods of their analysis and especially the comparison of accuracy of different machine learning algorithms among themselves. The paper presents a comparison of the accuracy of different machine learning algorithms, both on test data and when used in real life. Accuracy, F1-score and false positive rate were used as metrics to evaluate the results. On the test data, the Random Forest and XGBoost algorithms were found to be the most accurate, achieving 99.2% accuracy with a rate of false positivity of 0.6%. In real-life experiments, approximately 9% of flows were incorrectly detected and classified as malware. When the computer was compromised, the rate of flows classified as malware increased to 18%, and several indicators of compromise were captured and confirmed the infection of the computer.
Analysis of horizontal transfer of genetic components using static network analysis

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the issue of horizontal genetic elements transfer between bacteria of different strains and the software analysis implementation that enables horizontally transferred genes identification. The packages and tools used were tested on a dataset of bacterial genomes from several strains. The thesis’ theoretical part provides a detailed description of the genetic components transfer between bacteria and describes modern laboratory techniques that enable genome sequencing in various ways. In the practical part, the thesis deals with the preprocessing of genomic files to obtain suitable data for annotation. To detect the horizontal transfer of genetic elements between bacteria, a script is introduced, which organizes annotated bacteria to tables and searches for the same genes in their genomes that, under theoretical assumptions, were horizontally transferred. Furthermore, the gene transfer is visualized using tools that graphically represent phylogenetic relations between bacteria. In the final step, bacterial genomes are connected into networks, and based on their static analysis, a discussion is conducted on the results accuracy and the success of the proposed analysis.

Network probe: Network monitoring and management tool

Nowadays, there are many risks associated with computer networks, some of them can be eliminated with network probes. This paper is focused on the developed BUT network probe as a tool representing a hardware protection element of the network. Furthermore, the basics of IDS and IPS systems are described, including their possible applications. The basic concept of the network probe, the description of its basic parts and the created user interface are discussed. The last part is focused on the testing of hardware components that directly affect the proper functioning. The test results showed that the BUT network probe is able to perform network traffic analysis even at its maximum load.
The Belt and Road - Is China moving towards the centre of international trade? Assessment of impact on Balkans and Central Europe using network and gravity analysis

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a potentially world-changing Chinese economic and geopolitical strategy. In this thesis Gravity Model of Trade (GMT) and Network analysis are employed to assess the relative position of China in the International Trade Network (ITN), the overall impact of BRI, and its effect on countries in Central Eastern Europe and Western Balkans grouped in 17+1 mechanism. The results from Network analysis indicate that since the 1990s China is gradually moving towards the center of ITN. Subnetwork of BRI countries also exhibits higher cohesion and resilience to external shocks than ITN. GMT identified BRI as a significant and positive factor influencing exports, however in case of 17+1 mechanism countries the results are not robust. GMT was also successfully experimentally augmented with Network analysis variables demonstrating its possible enhancements and showing the path for further research. Intrinsic behavioural parameters of autonomous objects based on motion

This thesis outlines quantitative behaviour analysis methods. In laboratory conditions, the video tracking-based methods are the best, and thus they are investigated in depth. Methods of image acquisition, physical camera calibration, and spectral image reconstruction are intensively discussed in the author's articles, which are included in the thesis. Software solution for individualized object tracking was developed and applied to aquarium fish. Causality networks were introduced, investigated, and applied to multiple agent data of swimming fish. The networks highlighted school hierarchy, allowed to mine individual parameters of agents, and achieve the primary goal of the thesis -- how individual behaviour manifests itself in collective behaviour.
Comparison and evaluation of mathematical methods in proceedings

In the preamble of the report, there are briefly described the basic notions of network analysis (the project and the network graph). Special attention is applied to the deterministic methods (Critical Path Method, Metra Potential Method) and their calculation as well as stochastic method (Program Evaluation and Review Technique, Graphical Evaluation and Review Technique), which are narrowly analyzed in the next chapter of the final report. The last two chapters of this part of the report are focused on the possibilities of simulation at proceedings projects and the software as a fundamental asset for planning and proceedings projects. The second part, which is mainly oriented to the practical points of problem, proposes the answer to stochastic and deterministic project at the application of the simulation technique by means of selected software.

Daniela Kolenovská, Ph.D. Abstract Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine has accelerated internet regulation and cutbacks on free expression in Russia. YouTube is one of the most established hybrid media platforms and an important source of information in the country. It is likely that the platform may be banned by Roskomnadzor at any time, as it blocks Russian state channels. The aim of this thesis is to outline the characteristics of the Russian YouTube landscape and to contribute to the understanding of current transformations of the Russian media system. Two datasets of YouTube channel networks, retrieved on January 6 and March 14, 2022, are analysed and compared. The data consists of YouTube channels of the Russian political spectrum and surrounding channels, as well as their links to each other (subscriptions, recommendations). A significant increase in the English-language clusters and the Russian-language educational cluster between January and March, and a decrease in the Russian-language entertainment and political clusters was observed.
