Iodine content in milk and urine of dairy cows
VÍTKOVÁ, Lucie
This paper provides data on the iodine content in milk, urine and blood plasma of dairy cows on feed rations with various amounts and forms of iodine. The experiment included a group of 9 cows with different milk yield of livestock in the Klatovy district. The samples of milk, urine and plasma were collected from January to May 2011 at intervals of 3-4 weeks. Iodine content was determined spectrometrically after alkali burning of the sample. Vitamix S7+ mineral feed additives with anorganic iodine content and UNI SATURAN J with content of organic iodine were used as the sources of iodine. When feeding rations fortified with only anorganic iodine in quantity of 80 mg.kg-1 mineral feed additives, the content of iodine in milk was 33.07 +-31.13 mikrogramů.l-1, in urine 192.87 +-65.56 mikrogramů.l-1 and plasma 76.18 +-26.22 mikrogramů.l-1. When feeding diets with added organic forms of iodine in quantities of 1 mg.kg-1 mineral feed additives and lower contents of inorganic iodine its average content in milk reached 51.13 +-26.29 mikrogramů.l-1 in urine 221.20 +-137.65 mikrogramů.l-1 and 83.13 +-44.24 mikrogramů.l-1 in blood plasma. Low iodine content in milk and increased iodine content in urine indicate reduced use of iodine in the oraganism despite its optimum intake. These conditions are often associated with the effect of goitrogenic substances. Normal levels of iodine were reached in plasma.
The issue of nursing care of patients after thyroid gland operation
MARŠÁLKOVÁ, Pavla
The developed countries, our Republic not excluded, have a relatively high incidence of thyroid diseases (5 % to 30 % of population). Females develop the diseases five times oftener than males, mostly in their middle or higher age. The thyroid diseases are curable, but they require that proper diagnostics is applied, effective treatment administered by a professional team, and the patients behave responsibly. A nurse at a Surgery Department has to stand ready to cater instantaneously to the needs of patients awaiting the surgery; to properly handle any possible complications; to provide the after-surgery care; and to take care of what is required for the recovery. In providing the nursing aftercare to the thyroid surgery patients, the nurses serving at the Surgical Department were found to act purposefully and prevent possible complications; they were ready to respond to the already developed complications as may accompany the thyroid diseases. The research questions have been answered. Patients having undergone the thyroid surgery and hospitalized at the Surgery Department were found satisfied with both the overall approach of the nursing staff and the nursing care provided immediately after the surgery. Hypothesis 1: "Patients having undergone thyroid surgery and hospitalized at the Surgery Department are satisfied with the nursing care" have been confirmed.
Use of methods nuclear medicine in endocrinology
PEŠTÁLOVÁ, Petra
The contemporary situation of the nuclear medicine is desrcibed and its head using in heamadenology is hit in my diploma thesis. The most important points of anatomy and physiology concerning endocrines are revised in brief in the begining of my thesis. The next part is devoted to the possibilities of nuclear medicine in thyroid gland diagnosis. In the following part the possibilities of adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla investigation are presented. The entire part of nuclear medicine and its using in heamadenology is the open emmiters therapy. Therefore the last part of my thesis is dedicated to thyroid gland tumour therapy per radioactive iodine.Thyroid gland carcinoma can recur after many years. Therefore all the patients having this diagnosis are observed for life. Some nuclear medicine methods also serve for it.
