Sezonní dynamika vnitřních parazitů koní v aktivní stáji
HOŘEJŠOVÁ, Barbora
The aim of this thesis is to provide information on internal parasites, developmental stages and the possibilities of husbandry measures aimed at limiting the occurrence of gastrointestinal parasites in horses. This information is supported by our own analysis in horses observed on a farm in Mazice between 2020 and 2022. The aim was to evaluate the seasonal effect on the dynamics of egg excretion of gastrointestinal helminths of the Strongylidae family in horses kept in an active stable.
Využití fytoterapie v chovu koní
HAVLÍKOVÁ, Natálie
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to conduct research on phytotherapy and herbs used in horse breeding and internal parasites and their developmental stages. Breed-ers are increasingly paying attention to the health care of horses, and for that reason they tend to use unconventional medicine, such as herbs. The research focused on monitoring the effectiveness of a herbal mixture by WILD HERBS s.r.o. which supports against internal parasites, and recommenda-tions for the use of herbs in horse breeding. Monitoring took place on a farm in Mažice, where horses received a mixture fed in several stages by a feeding machine. After feeding the mixture, a coprological examination followed. Large and small strongyles, horse roundworm and horse tapeworm were found in the monitored farm. A clear indication of the effectiveness of the mixture when fed was a signifi-cant reduction in EPG values compared to previous years, which was also the goal. The EPG value in 2022 was 273 which is a significant decrease compared to the previous year of 2021 when the average EPG value was 634. The difference in EPG values between seasons was not significant. The value is rather determined by the current weather or the arrival of a new horse in the herd and the resistance of indi-viduals to the infection. The mixture had a very favorable effect on most horses, but at some point, a few individuals had higher EPG values, which could have been de-termined by several other factors. The steps needed to support a partially parasite-free breeding include collecting faeces, dragging pastures and monitoring the level of parasitic infection, giving suitable herbal mixtures and using anthelmintics in case of heavy infection.
Využití termografie v chovu koní
KOZLOVÁ, Eliška
The use of infrared thermography in horses is on the rise, mainly because of its noncontact and high sensitivity to temperature changes. Due to these characteristics, it is used in a number of sectors, such as equestrian sports, physiotherapy, reproduction and equine veterinary medicine itself. The aim of this thesis was to provide an overview of the current scientific and practical knowledge concerning the use of thermography in equine breeding. In the next part, the aim was the actual observation in the operating conditions of the stable and the subsequent verification of the methodology of the use of thermography in horse breeding. The complexity of the implementation, the quality of the outputs and the possibility of use in breeding practice were evaluated. Thermographic measurements were carried out on a family farm using a Flir E5- XT thermal imager. Thermograms of the distal parts of the limbs were taken in 8 horses, the individuals ranged in age from 4 to 29 years. The thermographic images were evaluated qualitatively. The temperature difference between symmetrical limb regions was compared and the results were related to the horses' health records. If there was a difference in temperature between collateral limbs greater than 2 °C, this difference was considered a signal of a health problem. The thermal imaging confirmed the hind limb advance in the gelding Santys, here the temperature difference between the hind limbs was 4 °C. Furthermore, thermography showed high tendon temperatures (42.3 °C) in the mare Sunnamy, who was diagnosed with chronic tendon disease of the forelegs. In Libia, the areas of elevated temperature suggested the effects of treatment with leeches. However, in the Hipster gelding, the 2.9 °C difference in foreleg tendon temperature was probably due to incorrect thermographic measurement methodology. Specifically, it involved brushing the forelegs just prior to the examination. The average temperature of the hoof crown was found to be 31 +- 1,6 °C in the animals examined. The use of thermography is very useful in horse breeding, but it is important to take into account environmental factors, information about the health of the horse and the technical parameters of the thermal imager. Equally important is the training of the person taking the measurements and the subsequent evaluation of the thermograms.
Vliv vybraných faktorů na biochemické parametry krve u koní
ZELENKOVÁ, Sofie
This thesis on the topic "The influence of selected factors on biochemical parame-ters in horses" deals with the evaluation of metabolism in selected groups of horses under defined nutritional and breeding conditions and the determination of possible metabolic risks and their solution. Substance metabolism was evaluated by means of selected biochemical parameters, which were compared between sport horses and horses used for riding lessons at the School Farm in Humpolec. Five horses were selected from each group and their breeding and nutritional conditions, physiologi-cal status, possible causes of metabolic disorders and proposed solutions were eval-uated. Our results agreed with those of other studies, but there was no statistically significant difference in the values of the investigated biochemical parameters between the studied groups of horses. The difference was noticeable between the individual sampling groups. Alkaline phosphatase was found to be in excess in some horses. Cholesterol values were lowest in the spring period and were outside the physiological range. Calcium values were found to be lower in the summer period, which may be due to insufficient calcium intake. Conversely, magnesium values exceeded the reference range and may be due to excess intake or kidney disease. Metabolic impairment can be caused by various diseases such as equine metabolic syndrome, developmental orthopaedic diseases, hyperli-pemia or laminitis.
Porovnání metod tréninku a přípravy skokových koní s rozdílným stupněm výkonnosti
VANČUROVÁ, Karolína
This bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of methods of training and preparation of showjumping horses with different performance levels. A total of six horses with various levels of performance from Z to T were monitored. This research took 3 months with each horse individually. Differences in training methods and volumes and frequency of intensive and rest work were monitored. Detailed monitoring revealed differences in both intensive and rest work in the studied categories. Differences between categories were most obvious in showjumping work (each horse was individually prepared according to its needs and showjumping experience). Statistically significant differences were also found in resting work, namely in spending time in the paddock (F= 6,924++). Approach work was used especially more in horses with Z - ZL performance than in other horses. The approach work accounted for 66 %, resp. 70 % of the total volume of intensive work during preparation. This was slightly less and similar for the S-ST horses (43 %, reps. 64 %) and the T horses (45 %. resp. 63 %). Showjumping work up to 100 cm was used of horses with Z - ZL level of performance at a volume of 45 minutes in the 1st month of training and gradually increased in the 2nd and 3rd months (90, resp. 225 minutes per month). Showjumping work up to 120 cm was represented only with horses with S-ST level of performance (45, resp. 135 min per month). This group of horses also made more use of show jump work up to 125 cm (45, resp. 180 min per month). The T grade horse was trained on jumps from 110 cm to 135 cm throughout the training. Field work was used most in the training of Z - ZL horses (45, resp. 570 min per month). Longe work was used in all horse categories, but most in S - ST horses (60, resp. 360 min per month) and in T horses, where the amount of longing work increased.
Vliv struktury stáda koní na agonistické chování
KOSTROUNOVÁ, Denisa
The bachelor thesis deals with selected parts of equine ethology and manifestations of behaviour in communication, social behaviour and hierarchy. It focuses in more detail on the agonistic behaviour of horses, which involves interactions between two or more individuals in conflict. Agonistic behaviour is observed in three herds of horses with different structures. Ethological observations of three differently structured herds were made by direct observation over a period of forty light hours. Records of the interactions of individual herds were recorded in ethograms. The ethograms were then used to evaluate the frequency of interactions and the occurrence of individual manifestations of agonistic behaviour. The frequency and intensity of agonistic behaviour of horses in herds were evaluated and the behaviour in individual herds was compared. A total of 202 interactions were recorded during the follow-up period, of which 54 (27 %) interactions involved direct contact. The overall incidence of aggressive interactions with direct contact was most observed in stallion herds at 74 %, mares at 19 % and mixed herds (geldings, mares and foals) were found to occur in only 7%. The highest frequency was again observed in the stallion herd where there were 2.8 interactions per hour, in mares 1.3 interactions and in the mixed herd it was 1 interaction per hour. Stallions showed the highest intensity and frequency of agonistic behaviour. When comparing individual herds, there was a statistically highly significant difference in behaviour between the stallion herd and the mare herd, a statically significant difference between the stallion herd and the mixed herd, as well as between the mares herd and the mixed herd.
Pohybová aktivita koní v aktivní stáji v závislosti na věku a ročním období
ORSÁKOVÁ, Kamila
The aim of the thesis was to monitor the daily activity of a selected group of horses in an active stable during the year. And to evaluate the influence of age and season on the daily activity of horses in an active stable. For the measure-ment of the physical activity the halter (headstall) attached GPS trackers were used for each individual horse. A total of 170 horse observations were made. Majority of observations were made for the Czech Warmblood breed, in 3 different age groups (young - up to 5 years, middle - 6-15 years, old - 16 years and more). In total 14 horses were observed, 5 horses in the young group, 5 horses in the medium group and 4 horses in the old group in the active stable Mažice. The monitoring took place during summer, autumn and winter, with the horses moving freely in all parts of the active stables, without using the horses for sport or riding purposes. The data were subsequently processed and evaluated by Statistica 12. In the active stable, it was observed that the age and season affects the daily activity of the horses. In summer, the highest moving distance was recorded for all groups with an average of 11.6 km/day. The highest was in young horses, which walked an average of 13.53 km/day in summer. Conversely, the smallest differences in daily activity were in the winter period, when the young group walked an average of 10.1 km/day, and the middle and old walked 8.6 km/day. The young group appeared to show the highest activity throughout the year and were most influenced by the season. On the other hand, the old and medium group did not show such a difference in activity when the season changed. For example, in autumn and winter, the old and medium group activity was almost at the same level. Active housing provides significant advantage in a freedom of movement, if designed properly. It is a husbandry technique that allows the horse to walk as many kilometers per day as it needs to and thus promotes proper musculoskeletal development in young horses and circulation in old horses. The results can be used as an overview for the breeder, who is interested in how much the horse can walk during the day and the time of year, and can design the time options for the paddock accordingly.
Hodnocení míry parazitární infekce koní v aktivním ustájení
HŘEBEJKOVÁ, Lucie
Over the course of a year, parasite infestation was repeatedly monitored in 24 horses and 3 ponies using the McMaster test. EPG levels chase throughout the year, being highest in spring and lowest in winter. They are generally Lower in ponies than in large horses. In spring all animals were clasified as infected with a strondylides gra-dual decrease in the proportion of animals with high EPG values since spring. The highest value found for the horse was 3075, while the highest value for the pony was 1200 EPG. The correlation was then confirmed statistically, hen the value of p = 0,004 0,05. The high variability of determinations suggests a significant influence of an animal's individual characteristics rather than a correlation with age, animal species, or time of determination (p 0.05).
