Wavelet transform
Valter, Boris ; Hlávka, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Dvořák, Jiří (referee)
Wavelet transform is a term from signal analysis. It is mostly used in physics, but also in finance, where we can use it to find a trend in different financial data. In the first chapter we will describe two older methods of signal analysis: Fourier transform and short-time Fourier transform. In the second chapter we show, how wavelet transform works, derive frequently used algorithm for calculating discrete wavelet transform and at the end we show several practical examples. This thesis was considered to deepen the knowledge of time-frequency analysis of signals, for better understanding of the principle, how wavelet transform works, and for potential extending its use. Multispectral Image Processing
Li, You ; Juránek, Roman (referee) ; Zemčík, Pavel (advisor)
Breathing Rate Estimation from the Electrocardiogram and Photoplethysmogram
Janáková, Jaroslava ; Smital, Lukáš (referee) ; Kozumplík, Jiří (advisor)
The master thesis deals with the issue of gaining the respiratory rate from ECG and PPG signals, which are not only in clinical practice widely used measurable signals. The theoretical part of the work outlines the issue of obtaining a breath curve from these signals. The practical part of the work is focused on the implementation of five selected methods and their final evaluation and comparison.
New Transforms for JPEG Format
Svoboda, Stanislav ; Polok, Lukáš (referee) ; Bařina, David (advisor)
The discrete cosine transform (DCT) can be found in the heart of many image compression algorithms. Specifically, the JPEG format uses a lossy form of compression based on that transform. Since the standardization of the JPEG, many other transforms become practical in lossy data compression. This article aims to analyze the use of these transforms as the DCT replacement in the JPEG compression chain. Each transform is examined for different image datasets and subsequently compared to other transforms using the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and SSIM. Our experiments show that an overlapping variation of the DCT, the local cosine transform (LCT), overcame the original block-wise transform at low bitrates. At high bitrates, the discrete wavelet transform employing the Cohen-Daubechies-Feauveau 9/7 wavelet offers about the same compression performance as the DCT.
JPEG 2000 Implementation
Zlatohlávek, Adam ; Klíma, Ondřej (referee) ; Bařina, David (advisor)
The aim of this thesis is to propose a image compression methods in JPEG 2000. This consists of description of techniques used in base level stadard and analyze options in encoding process. The goal is to create compression process of input image from preprocessing to own output format. In the end of paperwork are presented results of own implementation in memory consuptions and encoding performance.
Image Compression Using the Wavelet Transform
Bradáč, Václav ; Polok, Lukáš (referee) ; Bařina, David (advisor)
This work deals with image compression using wavelet transformation. At the beginning , you can find theoretical information about the best known techniques used for image compression , a thorough description of wavelet transormation and the EBCOT algorithm. A significant part of the work is devoted to the library's own implementation . Another chapter of the diploma thesis deals with the comparison and evaluation of the achieved results of the processed library with the JPEG2000 format

Lifting Scheme Cores for Wavelet Transform
Představený přístup krásně zapadá do běžně používaných rozšíření SIMD, využívá hierarchii cache pamětí moderních procesorů a je vhodný k paralelnímu výpočtu. Prezentovaný přístup je nakonec začleněn do kompresního řetězce formátu JPEG 2000, ve kterém se ukázal být zásadně rychlejší než široce používané implementace.
Effect of Noise on Video Compression
Anton, Matyáš ; Drábek, Vladimír (referee) ; Bařina, David (advisor)
Videos are in fact image signals and as such, they are susceptible to distortions in the form of noise. This thesis' goal was to determine how the presence of noise can affect the results of image data compression as well as what impact might the lossy compression have on the noise present. Four contemporary compression formats were chosen, namely H.264, H.265, Motion JPEG 2000 and DIRAC, representing different approaches to the video compression, especially the contrast between a discrete cosine transform and a discrete wavelet transform.
Image Compression Using the Wavelet Transform
Kontra, Matúš ; Drábek, Vladimír (referee) ; Bařina, David (advisor)
Wavelet transform belongs to modern methods used to compress data. It's application modifies data in such way, that we can use and store them in much more efficient way. Focus of this thesis lies in theoretical basis required to understand this method and its implementation. Next section shifts focus to quantization and coding - operations used to further reduce size of our data, which are provided by the SPIHT algorithm.
