The study is focusing on profitability, liquidity and solvency analysis. The company is also being tested with several financial health methods and factor analysis. The most important information source is the company annual report.

The subject of the diploma thesis is financial analysis of a selected commercial insurance company from the year 2004 to 2008. The analysis is performed on the basis of publicly available data from the insurance company's web site. The chapter following the introduction is focused on theoretical aspects of financial analysis of an insurance company. The methods of financial analysis, especially the indicators used in insurance industry are introduced in the third charter. The fourth chapter is operative, in which the analysis is realized by means of selected indices, described in the theoretical part. The conlusion sums up the results and finding of the thesis.

The main objective of this work was to assess the financial health of Barum Continental spol. s r.o. Analysis was conducted for the period 2002 - 2007, with an emphasis on the last 3 years. Primarily were used elementary analysis methods, which work with the extensive and intensive indicators. Thesis monitors the development of key indicators, assesses whether the company effectively manage its working capital and cash flow, whether it achieves sufficient profitability, effectively controls the area of liquidity etc. Modern methods, which enable to predict future development, were used as well(Altmanova Z-score, index IN05 and EVA). To assess the overall prosperity of the company we should concern the analysis of macroeconomic situation, which the firm must adapt.

Obsahem bakalářské práce je zpracování finanční analýzy firmy. V první řadě se zabývá historií a účelem finanční analýzy. Dále uvádí zdroje potřebné pro správné provedení finanční analýzy a vyjmenovává uživatele včetně jejich informačních potřeb. Bakalářská práce shrnuje v obecné rovině především metody finanční analýzy. Tyto metody jsou pak aplikovány při finanční analýze společnosti Subterra a. s. Pozornost je zaměřena na provedení horizontální a vetikální analýzy účetních výkazů a na využití rozdílových a poměrových ukazatelů pro zjištění finanční situace firmy.
