Commented translation of a teaching material for electrical engineering

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na překlad skript z oblasti elektrotechniky s cílem přeložit a analyzovat odborný text. Přeložená skripta budou pak používána k výuce technických předmětů se zaměřením na analogovou technikou. Práce má dvě části. Praktickou část, která prezentuje kapitolu ze skript přeloženou z českého do anglického jazyka, a analytickou část, kde je poskytnut rozbor přeloženého textu, včetně příkladů, který se převážně zaměřuje na shody a rozdíly ve vyjádření informace mezi českým původním a anglicky přeloženým textem.

Translation tools for specialized electrotechnical texts

Tato semestrální práce je zaměřená na zkoumání překladatelských nástrojů a překlad odborného textu. Práce je rozdělena do čtyř hlavních částí. První část se zabývá tím, co je to překlad a jaký je rozdíl mezi zastaralým a moderním přístupem. Druhá část je zaměřena na různé překladatelské nástroje a jejich popis. Třetí část definuje, co je to odborný text a poukazuje na obtíže a zvláštnosti při jeho překladu. Čtvrtá část je zaměřená na praktický výzkum formou dotazníku.

French Infinitive and its Role in Special Discourse.

French infinitive is an indefinite verb form which does not reflect the morphological categories of person, number and mode, but is able to express the category of gender and relative chronology. The infinitive is aspect-nonspecific and not able to express tenses, which are related to the moment of realization of speech/discourse. From the syntactic point of view infinitive can act as a primary or secondary predicate. As the secondary predicate, French infinitive is one of the linguistic means capable of forming semi-predicative constructions. In special discourse, due to the above-mentioned characteristic functions, French infinitive serves as an important condenser and also contributes to other requirements of special discourse, its impersonal character and timeless validity.

Práce využije různé lingvistické prostředky pro určení a pojmenování rozdílů mezi českým a anglickým jazykem, a také jak udržet stejný význam v žánru odborného stylu.

Pharmacy in chemistry curriculum for secondary education

Abtract The thesis deals with integration of the topic Medicine and Pharmacy into secondary education curriculum. The work is divided into four parts. First part pursues the content of medicine in the curriculum documents. Second part is devoted to comparison of educational systems in the Czech Republic and Slovenia and analysis of Czech and Slovenian textbooks for secondary schools. Third part contains special texts for teachers of secondary schools. It also includes basic information about pharmacy as well as other materials, which can be used in education. Thesis also contains ten laboratory works.

Noun phrase complexity in academic written English

The diploma thesis analyses written academic text. Academic prose is frequently characterized as a highly complex style which is structurally elaborated, contains a large number of subordinate clauses and expresses meaning relations explicitly. However, new research (e.g. Biber & Gray, 2010) shows that complexity of academic writing occurs on the level of noun phrases which often contain extensive premodification and/or postmodification. The thesis studies noun phrase structure in research articles from two disciplines: medicine and sociology. Two articles from each discipline were selected, each yielding 50 complex noun phrases. These 200 examples were analysed with respect to their modification, its form and levels of embedding. The results were compared for both disciplines. The aim of the thesis was to describe complex noun phrase structure and identify its relation to the type of academic discipline. Translation of technical texts from German into Czech

The aim of this thesis is to provide an insight into the translation of technical texts from German to Czech. The theoretical part discusses the present state of knowledge of technical translation in Czech and German speaking countries, the scientific discourse, text typology and classification of texts with regard to the context. Furthermore, this thesis describes contrasts of technical texts, and their characteristic features on a lexical, syntactic, semantic, pragmatic and text level. This thesis focuses on technical translation of medical texts with their most common text types and specific features, and explains implications for their translation from German to Czech. The empirical part of the thesis includes translation analysis of a chosen text type and an overview of main text types in medicine, followed by examples of parallel texts in Czech and German. To provide more objective information about translation of technical texts, a survey was carried out among translators and translation services agencies. The subsequent results were compared with the findings presented in the theoretical part. In the conclusion, this thesis summarizes the results of the research into the translation of technical texts from German to Czech with regard to medical texts and offers suggestions for further research.

Bakalářská práce se zabývá překladem odborného textu z časopisu Energo zaměřeného na elektrotechniku, konkrétně obor energetiky. Ze vzniklého textu je vytvořen komentář za účelem analýzy rozdílů mezi originálem a překladem. Součástí je diskuze o přenosu informací, kohezi textu, terminologii a lokalizaci. V práci je také část věnovaná podrobnostem odborného stylu.

Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo přeložit odborný text a okomentovat změny, jak syntaktické tak i z pohledu slovní zásoby, které bylo nutné zakomponovat do finálního překladu, aby se zachoval původní přístup autora k podání informace a také to, aby se zachovala původní informace samotná. Jedna kapitola je také věnována problematice odborného překladu obecně, s charakteristikou odborného textu. Poslední kapitola se krátce zabývá problematikou tzv. „Czenglish“, která právě s překladem odborného textu úzce spojena.

The work deals with the means for creating mathematical texts and for their presentation in both printed and electronic form. The focus is on the software of LaTeX and MS Word, which are compared in terms of availability and usability of their opportunities and quality of output.
