Death and dying in the work of nurses
BOHDALOVÁ, Jaroslava
Dying is a process composed of three consequential phases. It starts with the pre-dying period then there is the dying period and it is finished by the post - mortem period. Every period has its own specificity and hospital nurses have to be able to look after a person passing through the successive dying periods, and they have to percive him/her as a holistic being including his/her biological, psychological, social and spiritual needs that also have to be satisfied. Even in the post - mortem period a dead patient has the right to be treated with regard and respect. The most important link in all the periods is communication with both the dying patient and his/her family and the survivors after his/her death. The target of the thesis was to find out how hospital nurses perceive taking care of a dying person in hospitals and how hospital nurses look after a dead body. The following research questions were stated: How is the dying period perceived by hospital nurses? What obstructions in communication are there between hospital nurses and survivors? How do hospital nurses look after dead bodies? To figure out the investigation the method of qualitative research with the use of depth interview was used. The respondents were willing to record the interviews which were verbally - rewritten and then subjected to the contents analysis by the method paper and pencil. From the research it is clear that hospital nurses can cope with dying and death. However, taking care of dying people is not easy. Hospital nurses try to comfort the dying and satisfy their biological, psychological and social needs. But it is an alarming discovery that no spiritul needs are satisfied at all.Taking care of a dying person also involves communication with his/her family, hospital nurses try to meet all the wishes and needs. Hospital nurses do not use touching and listening while communicating with a dying patient, they do not even mention the stages by Elisabeth Kübler - Ross. The lack of time and suitable premises inhibits nurses from communication with survivors. Besides the form "Information for survivors" which includes the necessary details of arranging funerals and hospital social worker´s telephone number, hospital nurses do not provide any information, they do not even have any knowledge how to conduct survivors. Hospital nurses take care of dead bodies with regard and respect in terms of hospital standard. Care is provided in the room itself, if there is the lack of space, a screen is used so that other patients can not see the dead body. Survivors can part with the dead patient in the hospital room. There is no special room for that purpose. More than half of respondents is not educated in the field of dying and death any longer. On the basis of the research investigation and after the consultation with the senior nursing officer the training course will be organized. The topic of the training course will concentrate on the dying period and death with intent to the stages by Elisabeth Kübler - Ross, spiritual needs of dying patients, ways of communication with dying patients and how to conduct survivors. The form "Information for survivors" will be supplied with further information which can help survivors cope with the difficult situation that has occured. Other discovered facts, for example, the lack of suitable premises, time and staff can not be influenced by the respondents, but it could surely be influenced by the hospital management.

ZOUFALÁ, Eliška
The main aim of the thesis is the organising of the social funerals if the organiser is the municipality. And thus the Brno municipality which is divided into quarters. These city quarters pursue through the agency of social divisions the administration of the social funerals. In the bachelor's thesis I deal with terms related to social funerals. I characterize the possibilities of burials at these days, the way and procedure of burying in the case of the social funeral. In the practical part of the thesis I struggle to answer the question whether is there the falling or the rising of social funerals in the city of Brno. I decided to employ a quantitative research and the method of a questionnaire survey.

Relationship to Death and Burial Perception of the Students of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies
ZAHRADNÍKOVÁ, Marie
This work deals with issues concerning the death, burial and everything related. The main objective of this work was to determine how students of Social Work in Public Administration perceive this issue. Writing a bachelor thesis on this topic occurred to me after I attended the funeral of my grandfather. The funeral was held at the crematorium in Czech Budejovice and I was very surprised how impersonal impression it made on me. Due to this event, I thought it would be interesting to find out the attitude of the students who study a discipline which could bring them into this area (care for the dying, the bereaved, etc.). The work is divided into two main parts, namely the theoretical part and the practical part. The theoretical part deals with terms such as death, dysthanasia, tabooisation of death, dying and related phases commonly known as pre finem, in finem, and post finem. Furthermore, in this section you can find the most widespread conception - stages of dying by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. Subsequently dying care issue, dying care options that are commonly utilized and palliative care necessarily attached appear in this thesis. This last issue has been included in the theoretical part, because I think that in institutions where palliative care is offered, help of the social worker is an important service. The theoretical part then focuses on the survivors, where professional counselling for survivors is mentioned as well, although it has appeared in our country just recently. Furthermore, in the theoretical part, you can find a brief history of funerals and burials not only in the Czech Republic, but also throughout the world, where the diversity of rituals is often determined by religion. And last but not least the issue of suicide is also mentioned in this part. In the empirical part the method of qualitative research was used. It was conducted using semi-standardized interviews. 10 communication partners, more precisely students of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies at the University of South Bohemia - branch Social Work in Public Administration, participated in the interviews. The interviews were carried out between 30 to 60 minutes in places that communication partners had chosen themselves. Individual interviews were recorded on a voice recorder and later transcribed. The questions were divided into three groups for the purpose of better evaluation. The first area was focused on understanding the terms, which had been used and explained in the theoretical part, the second circuit concerned death and dying in the future profession of the communication partners or in their experience and the last circuit to investigate whether they had already had any experience with death in the sense of attending the funeral and how they perceived their own mortality. Semi-structured interviews were analyzed using cluster method. The aim was to find out how full-time students - branch Social Work in Public Administration at Health and Social Faculty at the University of South Bohemia in Czech Budějovice perceive matters concerning the death and burial.
How do the bereaved cope with the death of their loved ones and how can we help them?
URBÁNEK, Lukáš
The thesis deals with the topic of how the bereaved cope with the death of their loved ones and how one could help them in their crisis situation. It aims to compare the information gathered in a research carried out in the Strakonice district with the results known in scientific literature. The bachelor?s thesis focuses particularly on the mourning of the bereaved; however, it also outlines the issues of death and funeral which are closely related to the death of a loved one. It takes into account the results of the respondents? answers on what kind of death they first encountered, at what age and what their feelings were. A large part of the thesis deals with what a loss of a loved one means to the bereaved. The thesis focuses on processing grief of the bereaved respondents and who and what helped them the most when coping with the death of a loved one. Furthermore, it suggests some possibilities of non-professional and professional help for the bereaved and their comparison with the respondents? experience. The gathered empirical data are scrutinized and compared with scientific literature. There is also an intention to devise a creative project which might enrich our knowledge about the phenomenon of death and mourning.
Working class people in the region of Prachatice - their view of the phenomenon of death and dying and their coming to terms with the loss
ZÍKA, Josef
The work deals with the phenomenon of death and dying, its tabooing, and the influence of religiosity on the loss of a loved one. It maps various views and findings of blue-collar workers concerning death encounters or losses of their loved ones. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part discusses the differences in perception of the phenomenon of dying and death in the past and today. Other chapters discuss the subject of the loss, grief, communication with survivors and their support in the context of social work. On Changes In The Ways of Burial In The Czech Republic In The Last Decades
KADLECOVÁ, Hana
The work deals with changes in the ways of burial in the Czech Republic in the last decades. It has two parts - practical and theoretical. The theoretical part summarizes the evolution in the sphere of burial since the First Republic to the present days (this part contains interviews with witnesses). It leads to the conclusion, any changes have happened, mainly in the attitudes towards burial rituals. Two basic ways of burial (into the ground, cremation) have changed only a little. The new matter are burials without ceremony. The practical part contains questionnaire research. Respondents (priests, deacons and employees of the undertaker's and crematories) made answers about changes in attitudes towards death and burial in the last years. At the end of the work the results of the theoretical part are confronted with the results of the questionnaire research. Both parts of the work (the theoretical as well as the practical) confirm the main changes in a sphere of burial are in attitudes of people. Respondents crittically refer to state of contemporary morale, a decline of respect to the deceased and taboo of the death.
Nursing Care For The Dead {--} Theory and Practice
HOUFKOVÁ, Petra
The topic of my thesis is Nursing care for the dead. My intention was to find out whether nurses treat the dead body with respect and piety. The work is divided in two parts: theoretical and practical. Its theoretical part describes the death from the historical point of view, nursing care for the dead body and individual stages of dying are mentioned. Last but not least neither survivors are forgotten, since the loss of a close person is always the most difficult situation in their life. The aim of my thesis is to find out how nurses approach the care for the dead and what they feel when treating the dead body. On the basis of these aims the following hypotheses were formulated: 1. Nurses caring for the dead observe the ethical attitude. 2. Nurses do not perceive treating the dead body as a positive part of nursing care. After all modern nursing leads us to a more profound reflection and possibility of improving the ethical attitude and expressing the dignity to the dead.
