The summary of results of the present archaeological excavations in the area of the Cistercian cloister in Sedlec by Kutná Hora

The article is a brief summary of results of the rescue archaeological excavations near the convent church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary in the area of the Cistercian convent in Sedlec by Kutná Hora in years 2004-2008. The author focuses mainly on two new discoveries, which are crucial for the building history, concretely on the coin depot containing Prague Gross of Václav II. and Jan Lucemburský, dating the completion of the chapels in the east side of the convent church to the 2nd decade of 14th century at the latest, and on the partial uncovering of so far unregistered building, with high probability an older Romanesque convent church.

Prussian castles today – paradigm and warning

This article should be an information about issues connected with the new erection of three important prussian castles - in Berlin (Stadtschloß) , in Potsdam (Statschloß), and in Schwedt (Schloß), which were blown up during the epoch of the communist regime. From the time of reunification of the Germany started heavily discussions about the sense and legitimacy of these reconstructions.

Advanced detection methods used for on-site inspections of historic timber structures

Research and evaluation of timber structures used within historic buildings should have consideration for an authentic substance bearing the most of specific heritage values. Modern technologies have brought new tools for a detection of the subsurface biogradation. Among the non-invasive techniques the ultrasonic testing, portable X-ray scanning and thermo-vision belong to most promising ones. There are also sophisticated semidestructive methods like microdrilling or video scope available.
