Comparison of nursing care about apallic patients in domestic and institutional care from carer?s viewpoint
SOUSEDÍKOVÁ, Zuzana
As a result of urgent medicine acceleration and neurosurgery care improvement individuals that had minimum chance of life saving in the past survive brain insults. Increasing occurrence of people with apallic syndrome is a consequence of this progress. This thesis compares domestic and institutional care of apallic people. It examines whether the care quality and complexity are comparable. As the domestic care is more economical for the government it has to be supported in the times of insufficient funds for health care. Quantitative research technique of non-standardized interview was used for data collection. The research sample consisted of six healthcare workers and six family members caring for apallic patients. One respondent had a son in institutional care, however she took him temporarily to domestic care. Questions for healthcare staff and for caring family members were prepared separately. The results show that apallic patients in domestic care achieve substantially better results. The physical load is comparable, mental load is higher for family members. The basal stimulation, which is extremely important for apallic patients, is purposefully applied in institutional care only, as it is provided by trained staff there. The results of this work were presented at the 4th National Student Conference organized by the Faculty of Healthcare Studies of the Pardubice University. The data are published in the proceedings: SOUSEDÍKOVÁ, Zuzana. Comparison of nursing care about apallic patients in domestic and institutional care. In VI. National Student Scientific Conference of Bachelor and Master Programmes General Nurse, Midwife, Healthcare Rescuer, Nursing. Pardubice: Pardubice University, 2011. p. 18. ISBN 978-80-7395-391-1. The thesis will also be provided to the Cerebrum Association, which is going to publish it on its website and provide it to its clients, who are in touch with patients after brain injury. Distribution of this work among people having individuals with insulted brain around is the best way how to highlight the urgency of the problem.

Child Protection Legislation and Problems in the Application Thereof
KADLEC, David
Child protection legislation provides the means and legal basis for appropriate child care in situations where the constructive development and life of a child are at risk. This bachelor thesis addresses the work of a youth curator, who, as a social worker of a child protection agency, applies such legislation in practice. The aim of this thesis was to highlight the problems of applying current child protection legislation and to propose ways forward and solutions. The sample was limited to a group of children with educational problems. The research methodology was based on qualitative research practices and techniques. An analysis of the content of the case records of children with educational problems was the main technique, which was later supplemented by a technique of non-standard interviewing. The research results are presented in the form of case studies accompanied by interviews. The case studies and interviews confirmed that existing child protection legislation can be applied to a wide range of situations. It followed from the discussion that the application of child protection legislation is faced in particular with problems of inconsistency in the practices used by different child protection institutions. These problems consequently impair the efficiency of the youth curator{\crq}s work. The creation of a policy establishing uniform procedures for all participating institutions or the establishment of a state institution to coordinate these processes would offer a way forward in tackling these issues.
The issue of aggressive behaviour of mentally disabled individuals
LOJÍKOVÁ, Jitka
Mental disability of children, young people and adults represents a serious health and social difficulty. Despite the issue of mentally disabled individuals being brought up more and more recently, our knowledge of the particular life of such handicapped people is rather low or fragmentary. Mentally disabled individuals are part of our society, being individually more or less dependant on its care. The opening part deals with the issue of mentally disabled individuals. Their particularities, needs and number are analyzed and the institutional care as such is also touched upon. Within the context of the Social Services Act{\crq}s amendment, under which ``cage beds{\crqq} were abolished, workers are made to look for other ways of coping with the aggressive behaviour of mentally disabled individuals. The attention is also paid to aggressive actions of the mentally handicapped from the point of view of various branches of the law. Not every worker has comprehensive legal awareness as far as mentally disabled individuals are concerned. The main goal of the research was to monitor the displays, causes and possibilities of avoiding and coping with aggressive behaviour within the group of the mentally handicapped. In order to meet the goal of the research, methods of a structured dialogue with the mentally disabled and a questionnaire with the staff caring for the mentally handicapped were used. Having processed the data, it was determined that most of the workers had already met displays of aggressive behaviour of mentally disabled individuals, the most common being verbal and physical aggression. It was confirmed that measures preventing or averting aggressive actions as imposed by the Social Services Act 108/2006 Coll. were in most cases sufficient. If the individuals have their hobbies and their needs fulfilled, the risk of potential aggressive behaviour decreases. In my opinion, the aggression could be also prevented by encouraging friendly human relations, emotional support and an impartial approach to all.

In the second part which is aimed at clients who work and their satisfaction, the method of questioning was also used. In this case the technique of standardized (managed) interview was used. Both hypotheses were verified on the basis of the research results.
The Children´s Rights in Institutional Care.
KREJSOVÁ, Petra
The title of my diploma thesis is The Rights of Children in Institutional Care. It is composed of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part deals with concepts such as the right, the child, a part deals with the characteristics of The Convention on the Rights of the Child or the Committee for the Rights of the Child. The research was carried out by means of the directed interview method (partly standardized method) applying a questionnaire created by professor Gary Melton and his team in Columbia, South Carolina. The questionnaire comprises identification questions (age, sex, class), four general questions dealing with conceptual understanding of law and twelve situations when the child adjudicates rights. The questionnaire was enhanced by 15 supplemental questions for children (created by prof. Dunovský and prof. Kovařík) delimiting the conceptual understanding of a ``good citizen{\crq}q. Further the questioning method was applied for the research by means of a questionnaire. The research file was made up by 80 children and 20 employees in total. Two goals were set in the paper. Goal 1: the paper aims at finding out whether children have their own rights. Goal 2: The paper checks whether rights of the child are respected in child care institutions. One hypothesis was set. H1: Legal awareness of children placed in children's homes is lower than legal awareness of children from a common primary school. I believe the goals have been fulfilled, however the hypothesis was not confirmed.
Fostering in Classical Czech Foster Families and Fostering in Special Institutions for Foster Care-Big Foster Families. A Collation of These Two Forms.
WENDLIGOVÁ, Michaela
The thesis is a probe into the picture of alternative family care in the Czech Republic, oriented to the foster care. In the theoretical part a description of alternatice foster care for children removed from their biological family is given. It is concerned with vital needs of such children and their psychical deprivation. It tries to show why mothers waive their child and shows some aspects of social work in this field. The practical part of the thesis is concerned with the qualitative research that compares fostering in classical Czech foster families with fostering in special institutions {--} so called Big Foster Families. Research investigations are taken from the point of view of teenaged children being in foster care, and research is based on principles of modern (professional) fostering. The research investigations contain six interviews with children from classical families and four with children from special instituions for foster care. (The research is not concerned with SOS villages) Good quality of the foster care does not depend too much on the fact whether it is provided with a classical foster family or with a fostering institutions. It depends, first and foremost, on the character foster parent, i.e. if he/she is able to create positive relationships with the child and if he/she is able to adopt and accept the child unconditionally.
