Reasons of consumption of narcotic drugs at medical high schools
CANDROVÁ, Eliška
Taking drugs is not a problem only in the Czech Republic, but it is a worldwide issue. This conduct leads to the disruption of health and life values of an individual and the whole society. Taking drugs affects biological, psychological and social spheres not only at the time when an adolescent leads a risky way of life, but also in the future, when he/she must bear the consequences of his/her behavior. According to prominent authors dealing with the issue of the use of narcotic and psychotropic substances one of the stated reasons is neuro-psychological stress. This type of stress is more evident in students of secondary nursing schools than in other helping professions. The study includes a theoretical section, in which adolescence is characterized, the factors leading to addiction and the most common reasons for taking drugs are described. Individual narcotic and psychotropic substances are characterized in detail and statistical evaluation of their use is given. Stress and stress situations and their impact on drug use are discussed. Mental hygiene and relaxation are also included. In the practical part the objectives are set, the course of my own research and also discussions with the authors from which I drew information are described. Data were collected by means of quantitative research. The method of questioning, the anonymous questionnaire technique was used. On that basis the predetermined hypotheses were verified or falsified. Students were interviewed in the school in the presence of administrators, with exclusion of teachers and others with a similar authority who could affect the validity of collected data. The research objective was to survey the use of addictive drug in secondary nursing schools. Specifically, what narcotic drugs the students use, with what frequency, in what manner and what are the reasons for doing so. The research shows that students of secondary nursing schools are mostly stressed psychologically. These students drink more alcohol, use more tobacco products and drugs than other students. The results of the study can be used in practice, for the purposes of additional research and awareness for the professional and general public.
A healthcare assistant as a member of the nursing team
DUŠKOVÁ, Jitka
The Bachelor thesis deals with the profession of a healthcare assistant and acceptance of a relatively new healthcare staff category to a nursing team. The field of study of healthcare assistant has substituted the previous field of General Nurse at secondary medical schools within the changes of the nurse education conception. This change has shifted the field of general nurse to the tertiary level. The profession of a healthcare assistant should not be a marginalized part of a nursing team. The multilevel system of nursing care provision belongs to new trends in nursing and requires a nursing team consisting of staff of various qualification levels. Competences of a healthcare assistant are subordinated to nurses; assistants provide nursing care under supervision of a physician or a general nurse. They are entitled to performing a narrower range of activities mostly aimed at the basic nursing care. This new healthcare profession is becoming an important element and it is necessary to accept a healthcare assistant as a full-valued nursing team member. The theoretical part of the Bachelor Thesis deals with development of nursing and nursing education. It also contains information related to the healthcare assistant profession. The aim of the practical part was to find out whether general nurses are interested in including a healthcare assistant into their nursing teams and whether they know the competences of healthcare assistants. A quantitative research method in the form of a questionnaire was used to obtain results of the research. The questionnaires were designed for general nurses and distributed in the Central Military Hospital in Prague at the departments where healthcare assistants worked. The research results were presented in graphic form and evaluated in final discussion. The Thesis may be used for wider information on and closer insight into the issue, both for students and general nurses as well as nurse managers.
Role of healthcare assistants and nurses in the nursing process.
VODIČKOVÁ, Petra
This thesis treats the issues regarding the role of healthcare assistants in the nursing process and their mutual cooperation with general nurses. Four goals were set. The first goal was to ascertain in which way the general nurses allow the healthcare assistants to engage in the nursing process. The second goal was to ascertain what are the healthcare assistants? opportunities to participate in the nursing process. The third goal was to determine what problems are seen by managers regarding the integration of the healthcare assistants in the nursing care system. The last, fourth goal, tried to ascertain whether the system of integration of general nurses and healthcare assistants in the nursing team contributes to improvement of the patient?s care. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical one. The theoretical part deals with the nursing process as a method of work of a nurse, qualification training of general nurses and healthcare assistants and possibilities of finding vacancies in the nursing practice. The practical part consists of quantitative-qualitative research survey. For the qualitative research a method of individually conducted, pre-prepared interviews with representatives of the above mentioned professions. Four research questions were determined, i.e.: 1. To what extent are the healthcare assistants, general nurses and managers in positions of ward sisters aware of the nursing process? 2. Have the healthcare assistants a possibility to use their knowledge of the nursing process pursuant to Act No. 96/2004 Coll.? 3. Is the cooperation of healthcare assistants and general nurses perceived as a positive element for improvement of nursing care? 4. What experience have managers in the position of ward sisters in integration of healthcare assistants into the nursing team? The surveyed group consisted of six healthcare assistants, six general nurses and eight ward sisters-managers from minor inpatient facilities in the Pilsen region and Cental Bohemian region. Qualitative research was realized through a survey by questionnaire. Students of the last grade of the study field ?Healthcare assistant? and the study programme ?General nurse? were addressed. For the qualitative part of the research survey the following hypotheses were set: 1. Students of the study field ?Healthcare assistant? are oriented in the competences of healthcare assistants and general nurses in accordance with At No. 96/2004 Coll. 2. Students of the study programme ?General nurse? are oriented in the competences of healthcare assistants and general nurses in accordance with At No. 96/2004 Coll. 3. Students of the study field ?Healthcare assistant? perceive the determined competences for individual fields as a tool for quality professional care. 4. Students of the study programme ?General nurse? perceive the determined competences for individual fields as a tool for quality professional care. In total, 200 questionnaires were distributed, and subsequently, 142 of correctly completed questionnaires were evaluated. The output of this thesis is the verification of the present status of the issue in question. The results will be provided to nursing care managers in the researched healthcare facilities where they could help to improve the management of healthcare activities. The results may be also used to prepare informational and educational sessions clarifying the rules of cooperation of healthcare assistants and general nurses. Furthermore, the results could be offered to the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic, namely to the Working Committee for transformation of non-medical healthcare professions in the Czech Republic the main work objective of which is the amendment of Act No. 96/2004 Coll.
Medical school students perception of the elderly
FOISTOVÁ, Lenka
This Diploma work consists of two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with characteristic features of ageing and changes connected with it. I also describe the adolescent development and complete this part with information of the study course called Health Care Assistant. The practical part is focused on research. The aim of this work has been to find out ambivalent attitudes of secondary health care school students to seniors. A technique of the semantic diferential was used in the field data collection. The students were asked to define their opinions and attitudes toward seniors in the scale of odd-numbered categories of lexically ambiguous word pairs, e.g. quick {--} slow, old {--} young. They were also free to express their opinions about seniors. Although there were significant differences in responds of 3ZA and 4ZA classes, the total findings have proved both hypotheses stated at the beginning. The students of secondary health care schools perceive seniors positively, on the other hand they consider them as sick people. It is obvious from the survey information that older students perceive seniors more positively than the younger ones who reported more negative attitudes toward seniors. The differences in student perception can be connected with the fact that four-year students have already passed their professional training in health care facilities. The research findings are supposed to be benefitial for professional subject teachers at secondary health care schools and for professional training mentors at health care facilities. The findings should lead to reconsidering methodical approaches to professional subject teaching and the subsequent implementation into the school educational programmes.
Motivation for education of healthcare assistants with regard to their future practice
ŠMÍDOVÁ, Jaroslava
After accession to the European Union and adoption of Act No. 96/2004 Collection, on non-medical healthcare professions, changes occurred, which concern mainly nurses. These changes affect mainly administration and competences of the nurses. The act currently differentiates between and defines the procedures of secondary educated staff as procedures without special supervision and procedures with special supervision, and also defines the process for obtaining the certificate for the performance of a profession without special supervision based on the credit system. In practise this means that if the health care assistant does not achieve a higher or university level education, he/she cannot work independently without any special supervision. And it is the interpretation of the term without special supervision and with special supervision that is the subject of discussion. The nurses refuse to be responsible for the work of somebody else and present this attitude openly. The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to find out what motivates current healthcare assistants to work in healthcare and what their approach to education is, which should be an integral part of their life. There was also a discussion as to whether the information about the speciality, provided to basic school children, is appropriate for such a life-long decision as the selection of occupation. There were two hypotheses established during the investigation. H1: The pupils of the basic schools have no information about studying in Nursing Schools, H2: The students are motivated for further education and H3: The graduates of the Nursing Schools want to study in order to improve their qualification in the higher level schools. Based on a questionnaire, all established hypotheses were confirmed and the goal of the thesis was accomplished. The research was therefore successful. Obtained information may be used mainly for improving the approach while providing information to the pupils in the basic schools before their decision about the choice of profession, since the education advisers are interested in the results obtained. For teachers in the secondary schools, this knowledge will be useful to improve motivation of students for future professions
The employment of medical assistants in acute nursing care
JIRÁKOVÁ, Marcela
The thesis is aimed at to what extent nursing assistants are used for providing acute nursing care and whether nursing assistants are interested in providing nursing care, and, in addition, it focuses on what the attitude of the management to employ nursing assistants is. Moreover, it deals with the historical development of the nursing education until today and with the impact on education of non-medical staff after the Czech Republic joined the European Union. It deals with legislation and decrees in force laying down conditions of work of non-medical staff {--} defining professions and their members, defining the scope of work (primary, secondary, tertiary care), defining requirements for obtaining a certificate of professional competence, defining lifelong learning, defining job competences etc. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to find out how much the services of nursing assistants are used in acute nursing care and whether they are interested in working in this area. The instrument for gaining these targets was the quantitative method in a form of a questionnaire intended for the pupils in the 4th grade at the Medical Secondary Schools in České Budějovice and Český Krumlov, specialization Nursing Assistant, and then the qualitative method in a form of a semi-standardized interview conducted with the middle and low management, in particular ward sisters and nursing officers on wards with acute beds. The questionnaire responses were plotted in graphs using descriptive statistics, interviews were summarized in a paper and synoptic charts. The results ascertained were described and evaluated in terms of disproving or proving the hypothesis and in terms of findings based on the questions raised in the final discussion.
