Bedřich Vašek and the "Christian Sociology" in the Context of the Development of the Church's Social Teaching in the First Half of the 20th Century. Implications for the 21st Century

The dissertation seeks an answer to the question of the content of the somewhat paradoxical phrase "Christian sociology", specifically the content of Christian sociology as conceived by the Moravian scholar of the first half of the 20th century Bedřich Vašek (1882-1959). At the same time, however, as a result of the insights brought by the research itself, the original thesis was supplemented by the question of the current state of this specific rejuvenating field. The idea of Christian sociology remained virtually dormant from the 1950s until the later 1970s. The revival of the field can be seen as an apparent response to both the methodological changes of the Second Vatican Council and the advent of postmodern society. The research has provided a wealth of stimuli for exploring the relationship between the historical phenomenon of Christian sociology and contemporary notions of the Christian or Catholic perspective in sociology and, more broadly, the relationship between the social doctrine of the Church, theology and sociology in international and domestic settings. Poldi Kladno Through The Eyes Of Collective Memory

My thesis is focused on the former steelworks Poldi Kladno that as the biggest and the most important local company used to have a significant influence on the developing of the city even in a sense of its social identity. My research has two main research objectives - to discover in what sense is the Poldi Steelworks incorporated into the collective memory of Kladno and its citizens, to determine what would be the preferred new purpose of the current brownfield area and what are its real possibilities. From the theoretical point of view, I mostly rely on Maurice Halbwachs' theory of the collective memory. Methodologically, I'm conducting a qualitative research mostly based on in-depth interviews with respondents representing certain memory groups. This thesis is divided into four main sections. In the first chapter I introduce the reader to a local context and to the history of Poldi Kladno. Following is a Theoretical Chapter discussing the theory of collective memory and its application for the purposes of my research and also the topic of brownfields and the use of public space. In the Methodological Chapter I describe my chosen methodology into details and in the Research Chapter I sum up the findings of my research and answer my research questions.

The Third Role of the University - from Elite to Mass Education

The bachelor's thesis "The Third Role of the University - from Elite to Mass Education" deals with the concept of massification in tertiary education and its influence on the field of sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Prague and the Faculty of Philosophy in Prague. The aim of a bachelor's thesis is to understand and then compare how these two groups of students reflect the changes associated with massification and how these changes affect their motivation and attitude to study. The starting concept of bachelor's thesis is the already mentioned concept of massification, which makes it possible to partially analyse changes in universities associated with expansion and increase in student numbers that affect not only students' attitudes to education, but also their very motivation to study. In the theoretical part of my bachelor's thesis, I am engaged in a general explanation of the concept of massification and its effect on the field of sociology taught at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Prague and the Faculty of Philosophical Studies in Prague. When it's not "just" about hockey. Hockey championships in the Czech Republic through the eyes of the organizers

"Sport is everywhere and we are in it." These words are the leitmotif of Jiří Černý's book Fotbal je hra. Pokus o fenomenologii fotbalu. In this text, Černý points out the significance of sports and sports games in modern culture. At present, we are witnessing an ever-growing interest in sport from the perspective of various scientific disciplines. This dissertation thesis deals with the phenomenon of mega-events, large-scale (not only) sporting events that have broad, society-wide impacts, from a sociological, qualitative perspective. In the Czech context, these are primarily sports competitions of a smaller scale than, for example, the Olympic Games, but which can nevertheless have profound social impacts. Such sports events, which took place in the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia, undoubtedly became ice-hockey world championships. This dissertation thesis describes the Ice Hockey World Championship, uncharacteristically, through semi-structured interviews with the organizers of the championship from 2004 and 2015. For millennia people modified and adjusted their surroundings in an endless hunt for comfort, safety and survival. Humanity grew, evolved, matured and died together. The environment directly reflected the efforts made by its community. Families lived under one roof together, right next to the village common. Humans knew to respect the nature and coexisted with it. This changed drastically over the last couple centuries. After several technological breakthroughs and a few wars the technological evolution accelerated right out of control. The need for a neighborhood begun to fade. Sunday markets were replaced by supermarkets, eye-to-eye talks became scarce as we glued ourselves to various screens. Low fences were replaced by tall concrete walls, we built a system of selfish private bubbles. NEIGHBOR+HOOD attempts to find a compromise between both extremes. It is understanding and balance among the spaces for ME and the spaces for US. It is a place for neighbors, a tight-knit community of friends under one tree, sitting at a common table. It is a natural, comfortable, peaceful, safe and humane environment in the suburbs. The design offers to the fictional inhabitants of Udánky hill an opportunity to identify with their home and its surroundings. All that and more in total symbiosis with surrounding nature. NEIGHBOR+HOOD is human, self-sustaining, ecological housing estate. It is the home of neighborhood.

Modernity as Monstrosity: Sociological Testimony of the Modern Auctorial Myth 2011

This paper presents the methodology and theory needed for a narratologically and linguistically oriented comparation of chosen texts that belong to different declared genres, eventhough they do share a substancial amount of characteristics in the author's opinion. This methodological and linguistic apparatus is then used for a brief pilot study of the specific texts with a special regard to correspondence and difference in the language and narration of these texts. The key metodological instrument presented in this paper is the contruction of the continuum defined by the abstract opposites of "instrumental" and "literary" language and then relating of this continuum to the theory of information. The paper presents narratological approach oriented towards the relation of science, narration and society as a theoretical basis for the study of character of narration in the chosen texts. The outcome of the pilot comparation, based on this theoretical and methodological apparatus, is in the grasping of language and narration in the compared texts with regard to the idea of ideal text and its characteristics. Résumé: In a doubly disloyal continuity with regard to the French epistemological tradition, largely preoccupied with the formation of scientific concepts, the present work addresses the phenomenon of disappearance of 'analytical' method. Nevertheless, the present work does not constitute an historical investigation: its very goal is to show (within the works of T. Hobbes, J.-J. Rousseau, H. Spencer and E. Durkheim) the variation of the epistemological status of the analysis, and thus to set up the concept of an 'epistemological event'. Examining the disappearance of the analysis requires its identification in the theoretical work whereby its leverage remains unacknowledged. Thus, having the status of a method in the philosophies of the social contract of Hobbes and Rousseau, the analysis 'continues' to structure, in a tacit way, the work of Spencer and Durkheim, both of them founders of scientific sociology. Analysis of the Goverment's Spring Crises in 2011

The graduation thesis Analysis of the Spring Governmental Crises in 2011 deals with the process of the intermedia agenda setting during the period from April to June 2011. Within the scope of the empirical part, the explicit references of media to other media are examined with use of quantitative content analysis. Television, radio and printed newscasts media including their internet portals were analyzed. The theoretical source of the work is the relationship between media and politics and agenda setting theory of mass media. Diploma thesis Sociology and Existentialism. Question of "Purpose" from an Existentialist Viewpoint deals with the problem of aim and purpose of sociology. First we want to doubt what we grasp as nonproblematic reception of attitudes on what sociology actually is, which is to be found especially in common sociological discourse. We want to accomplish this by challenging sociology to defend itself against what existentialism perceives as ultimate concern of human beings and by suggesting that in order to comply with this challenge sociology should become religious in Tillich's and Fromm's sense. Second we aim to conceptualize what purposeful sociology would mean and analyze how sociology has been loosing purpose. Third we aim to hint at what sociology should do in order to stay purposeful.
