The influence of resilience social support and religiosity on the wellbeing of victims of domestic violence in Accra Ghana
Ahmed, Osman Abdul
ABSTRACT Domestic violence and abuse continue to be an issue of alarming concern for governments and nations across the globe because of the threats that it poses to victims psychologically and physically as well as the family, communities and the nation at large. Although many studies have been done on the subject, these studies focus mainly on the antecedents to abuse and its impact on the victims. Few studies have also focused on the punitive measures and the legal framework around which perpetrators of domestic violence are dealt with less focus on psychological, social and spiritual factors that can improve the wellbeing of victims. It is against this background that this study was conducted to examine the influence of resilience, social support and religiosity on the wellbeing of victims of domestic violence in Accra, Ghana. Using the biopsychosocial and spiritual theory of illness and wellbeing, a cross sectional survey was conducted by purposively sampling 100 victims of domestic violence and abuse (M= 28.57; SD= 5.55) within the period of September and October, 2021. The respondents filled questionnaires that examined resilience, social support, religiosity and psychological wellbeing. Results indicated that resilience (r = -.52, p < .001) has a significant negative relationship with wellbeing while social support (r =.48, p > .001) and religiosity (r = .53, p < .001) has a significant positive relationship with wellbeing. Both social support and religiosity predicted wellbeing in the victims of domestic violence accounting for forty-five percent of the variance in wellbeing scores of the victims (p<0.001, Adj. R2=0.45). It is discussed that psychological support be provided for victims and this support should focus on resiliency training, family and community support and spiritual and religious mindfulness. Limitations of this study are also discussed with recommendations to chart the path for future studies.

Švarcová, Tereza ; Kebza, Vladimír (advisor) ; Štětovská, Iva (referee)
Resilience and perceived life purpose are phenomena which have been getting more and more attention in foreign literature recently. The results of resilience and life purpose research has its own place in psychotherapy, psychological consultancy and preventive care. The purpose of the theoretical part of diploma thesis was first to present the concepts of resilience and perceived life purpose as separate areas, and then to connect them into an interacting unit. The theoretical part of the thesis refers to the age - related specifics of resilience in connection to developmental tasks of each stage. The aim of the empirical part of diploma thesis was to prove the relationship between resilience and perceived life purpose using a research sample (N = 231), which was being measured by three questionnaire methods - Connor - Davidson Resilience Scale (CD - RISC), Life Engagement Test (LET) a LOGO - test. Another step in the empirical part was to find out if there are differences in grades of resilience and perceived life purpose between two groups (age 18 - 30 and 31 - 65). The results of the empirical part have proven a significant relationship between both variables. The LOGO - test shows considerable differences between the groups in the grades of perceived existential frustration. The results of the...
The Interplay Between Smart Cities and Disaster Risk Reduction: A Study of the City of Amsterdam
Rossi, Alice ; Špelda, Petr (advisor) ; Střítecký, Vít (referee)
The thesis examines how the development of smart cities interplays with the enhancement of Disaster Risk Reduction. Natural disasters are increasing, especially in urban areas, representing a concentration of social, economic and institutional vulnerabilities due to high population density. The development of smart cities could represent an opportunity to make urban areas safer and prepared to handle possible extreme weather events, as they are based on the development of cross-sectoral policies to deal with urban challenges and increase the city's overall efficiency. Through a single case study research of the city of Amsterdam, the thesis aims to prove the connections between smart cities and disaster risk reduction frameworks through qualitative data analysis. The findings show the overall efficiency of the approach employed by the city of Amsterdam for both the development of the smart city and disaster risk reduction. Even if the city does not explicitly state the connection between the two domains, the study found that Amsterdam's smart city policies have several elements that interplay with the framework of disaster risk reduction, enhancing its effectiveness. Resilience and coping strategies of souls-like genre gamers
Bura, Jan ; Hrabec, Ondřej (advisor) ; Lukavská, Kateřina (referee)
The bachelor's thesis aims to find out whether there are differences in resilience and coping strategies between gamers - specifically between players of the souls-like genre and the normal population. To collect data, a questionnaire was constructed that included two standardized inventories, the Brief Resilience Scale (BRS) and the Brief-COPE. For the purpose of this thesis, the BRS-G inventory was also created, which is basically the BRS scale set in game environment. The questionnaire was subsequently posted to online forums and Facebook groups. Data was collected from a total of 147 respondents. Respondents were classified into 3 groups (souls-like gamers, regular gamers and non-gamers) based on time spent playing video games and preferences for the souls-like genre. The group of regular gamers was added as a control group to capture whether the difference between the groups was due to playing souls- like games or gaming in general. The Kruskal-Wallis test (i.e. a non-parametric version of ANOVA) and subsequent post-hoc tests were the main methods used to detect differences. Differences in coping strategies were minimal, almost nonexistent - the only significant difference was found in emotion-focused strategies, which was most likely related to gender (women showed higher values). In the area...

Doubravová, Barbora ; Bahenský, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Földes, Kristián (referee)
The marter thesis deals with the role of trust in media in resilience. The aim of the thesis is to explore the approach to trust in media by the state and journalists as a factor in countering the issue of disinformation, with potentially co-explanatory differences between the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic in their societal resilience. The thesis utilizes exploratory research of a qualitative nature. The results are primarily extracted through 15 interviews with journalists and national officials, as well as experts from both countries. As the results illustrate, the state and media sector in both countries consider trust in the media as a crucial factor in resilience against disinformation and countering disinformation. Journalists' perspectives on the subject are similar in both countries, while the approaches of national officials are to a certain extent differen. In the Czech Republic, national officials express a stronger criticism regarding the quality of media on the national level, at the same time, a passive approach to building their trust. On the other hand, national officials in Slovakia depict a greater eagerness to contribute to trust in media. However, it is often diminished by a lack of resources or political will. The results outline the necessity of a comprehensive...
Abstinence among young adults
Dočkalová, Barbora
Based on current research and yearly reports of consumption of addictive substances where the Czech Republic repeatedly ends up at the top of the rankings while also having fewer people who abstain from addictive substances in comparison to European standards, we've decided to understand more about the experience of people who abstain. So far the research wasn't too focused on the people who abstain from addictive substances therefore the aim of this work is to get a holistic perspective of their lives. A group of young adults who have been abstaining from addictive substances for some time and therefore can reflect on their experiences have been selected as participants in the study. Fifteen different experiences with abstinence have been collected through semi-structured interviews. The first phase of data analysis (Analysis I) reviews and compares the responses, and in the second phase (Analysis II) we've worked with the central category that is common among the interviews. Psychological resilience has been established as a strong common basis among all respondents which represents a supportive factor against conformity to a society that has different patterns of consumption of addictive substances than respondents. In the final section of the thesis, we've suggested a dynamic model of factors...

Koroleva, Alena ; Daďová, Klára (advisor) ; Pavlová, Ilona (referee)
Title: The relationship of perceived quality of life, sport engagement and psychological resilience of para swimmers. Objectives: The main aim of the thesis is to investigate whether selected traits in the area of psychology (resilience, hardiness, grit) are related to perceived quality of life and sport engagement of para swimmers. Furthermore, whether we can predict quality of life and sport engagement based on these characteristics. Methods: Thirty-two adult respondents (13 females, 18 males), aged 19 to 59 years (mean age 29.2±8.5 years), participated in a survey. Data were collected using a questionnaire focusing on general information, life satisfaction, grit, resilience, sport commitment and hardiness (Martin et al., 2015), which was translated into czech by Jiskrova (2019). Results: Life satisfaction (LS) is statistically significantly correlated with resilience (r=0.61) and hardiness (r=0.41). Sport engagement (SE) was only statistically significantly correlated with hardiness (r=0.46). Life satisfaction, based on regression analysis, can be best predicted from resilience, which explains LS from about 37 %. SE can only be predicted from hardiness, which can explain SE from about 21 %. Key words: physical disability, para sport, endurance, mental toughness, grit, resilience, hardiness
