Information literacy and information needs of students of colleges of education and role of information education in universities

The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with the concept of information literacy, its development, and its broader context of information society. Furthermore, it presents selected initiatives, recommendations, concepts and standards of UNESCO, International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, American Library Association and Czech representatives of the Association of Libraries of Czech Universities, always in relation to education, information education and lifelong learning. The practical part of the thesis describes author's own questionnaire survey that was conducted at the same time at three faculties - in České Budějovice, Plzeň and Ústí nad Labem. The survey looks into general students' awareness of information resources and their use. In addition, interviews with librarians are provided. These interviews illustrate the real situation and conditions for teaching information literacy provided by the faculty.
Outline of advances in teaching medical information literacy : with a special view of its implementation into the academic environment (curricula) at the 2nd Medical School, Charles University in Prague

The thesis deals with selected theoretical fundamentals of information literacy, which are followed by an analysis of the situation of teaching information literacy at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague. The objective of this thesis is to describe the whole process of participation of the Department of Science Information at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine in the process of information education. First the thesis gives information on a theoretical level about basic terminology and information literacy from a medical point of view. The thesis also shows the results of questionnaire surveys held by the IVIG Committee focused on the activities of university libraries in the field of information education. No less important is also a chapter devoted to a librarian in the role of a lecturer. a chapter devoted to information education at other universities in the Czech Republic ensues. The practical part contains a presentation of teaching at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine where the library participates. Individual subjects are described in detail in the mentioned part. Some recommendations for improving the actual teaching are formulated in the conclusion.
Use of electronic information resources in the Czech language and literature classes at high schools

This diploma thesis is focused on information education and using electronic information sources in Czech Language and Literature classes at Czech secondary schools. It consists of three parts. The first, theoretical part addresses information literacy in the Czech Republic, national information education policy and contemporary trends in using modern information and communication technologies in the classroom. The second part includes an overview of open online information sources for Czech Language and Literature classes which could be used in the classroom. The thesis also includes an inquiry into the use of electronic information sources in Czech Language and Literature classes at secondary schools. The research was conducted at two general secondary education schools - Jiráskovo gymnázium in Náchod and Gymnázium Broumov. Lectures of information literacy in education of history at Dvořákovo gymnázium in Kralupy nad Vltavou

This thesis deals with a concept of information literacy lectures applied to the project-based teaching of history at Dvořákovo gymnázium in Kralupy nad Vltavou. In this thesis are presented and further developed the information literacy requirements for high school students, specified in the "Educational program framework for High schools" (27). These requirements are further developed, based on the information literacy standards published in the USA and the UK. On this basis is formulated a concept of information literacy teaching instructions. This concept results in the formulation of information literacy lessons curriculum and their implementation in the history lessons through project-based teaching method. The whole concept was tested in practice. However, in this thesis is also mentioned the possibility of teaching information literacy in a way of a separate workshop, connected with other school subjects. This method seems to be more suitable, because it allows the inclusion of a wider range of subjects into the workshop's curriculum.

Process analysis of the Centre of Information and Library Services of the University of Economics, Prague

Theme of the diploma thesis is the analysis of the processes inside the library of the University of economics. The first part is dedicated to the definition of the goals of the thesis and to the theory of the company processes. The text interprets the term of information literacy and information education and links these terms with the procedural analysis. The thesis introduces the library and identified processes for optimalization. In the second part, the identified processes are analyzed and described in the EPC notation. The thesis describes five processes and their sub-processes. The first process is the educational program, the next process is the cooperation between the university teachers and the library. Another process is the the control of the plagiarism and the use of electronical sources and thesis in the education. The last described process is the feedback from the users. The conclusion summarises the thesis and is coupled with the recommendation about the optimalization of the described processes. The goal of the thesis is to optimalize the defined processes of the informational education in the library and to improve the quality of them, so they can effectively aid the goals of the library, but also to improve the information literacy of the students.
The project of information education of teachers in a secondary technical school

This study is focused on training information literacy of teachers in one secondary technical school. The pilot training lessons were held from February to August 2010 and were a part of a project which resulted to the foundation of the Studying and Information Centre in SSTO Dacice. The aim of training was to improve the quality of educational process in school and in friendly way lead teachers to self-education in the area of orientation in electronic resources (digital libraries, open access resources and institutional repositories), searching information, citation etc. In the conclusion of this article there is summarized and analyzed the questionnaire action in which teachers participated. Results of this questionnaire will influence of the future The National technical library´s projects on information literacy training.
