The Magisterial thesis deals with composers of jewish ancestry and their viola compositions. It consists of three parts. The first part describes the
historical and religious context these composers lived in. The second part deals with the developement of jewish music and its characteristics. The last part is about the individual composers and their lives and works with focus on viola compositions.

Karel Doležal - Violist and Teacher

This bachelor thesis speaks about Czech violist and teacher Karel Doležal. The aim of this thesis is to provide complex summary of his concert and pedagogical activities. It is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to Karel Doležal´s childhood, studies and the beginnings of his artistic career. The second chapter is the main focus of this thesis. It summarizes more than forty years of activity of the Doležal quartet which was founded by Karel Doležal. The next chapter deals with the solo career of Karel Doležal. The fourth chapter is focused on his teaching activities in schools and international master courses. The fifth chapter provides a small description of his style of interpretation as well as his artistic and pedagogical ideas. In the attachment we can find photographs, programs from concerts and list of discography and radio recordings.

Viola Development in soviet Union from the beginning of 20th Century till Today

My bachelor thesis deals with viola development in Soviet Union from the beginning of 20th century till today. The thesis is divided in four chapters. The first chapter describes forming of viola interpretation in music culture in 20th century. Particular sub-chapters describe roles of viola in music of 20th century, important representatives, and repertoire-genre characteristics. The second chapter focuses on the development of soviet viola school. In particular sub-chapters, names and biographies of soviet viola school founders are presented. The third chapter deals with viola repertoire in Russian music. Particular sub-chapters describe the role of viola in orchestra, in soviet composers? compositions, and in new music of the end of 20th century. The last fourth chapter focuses on the personality of Yuri Bashmet. His creative alliance with other composers is described in sub-chapters. Also, development of contemporary viola music is assessed.

This master´ s thesis aims to familiarize the reader with a
rare personality of Czech music, composer
and musicologist Zdeněk Šesták. Of his work is here most elaborated his
Concerto for Viola and Orchestra "Sokratovské meditace? with the analysis
of individual phrases and examples of sheet music, solo part and from the
score.
The work includes also other Czech composers, representatives
of approximately the same generation as Mr. Šesták, but
often completely different creative principles. The mainconnecting element
is Viola concertanto works - concertos, sonatas, songs, or nontraditional
pieces, where this instrument dominates.
