Detection of HTTP/2 DoS attacks
Jurek, Michael ; Komosný, Dan (referee) ; Sikora, Marek (advisor)
This bahelor thesis is focused on the issue of generating and detecting network Slow DoS attacks of application protocol HTTP/2. As a goal it has to sum up princples of networking, chronological development of web protocols and principles of these attacks. It provides design, creation and testing of Slow DoS attacks generator and theirs successfull detection. Final product is tested on real web server Apache 2.4.17.
Slow rate DoS attacks independent of application layer protocol
Richter, Dominik ; Münster, Petr (referee) ; Sikora, Marek (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is focused on the development of a generator of Slow DoS attacks independent of the application layer protocol and a system capable of detecting these attacks. These attacks are characterized by the use of very low bandwidth and similarities to legitimate user traffic on the network. This makes them very effective and difficult to detect. In addition, they can be applied to multiple ISO/OSI application layer protocols, such as FTP, SSH, or HTTP. Specifically, the work deals with Slowcomm, Slow Next and SlowReq attacks. In the introduction, the reader is introduced to three application layer protocols, on which the implemented attacks will be presented and tested. Next, the individual Slow DoS attacks and the procedure of their implementation in the test environment are described in more detail. Subsequently, an IDS detection system was created, which is able to detect the ongoing attack generated by the created generator. Its implementation was also described. The results show that Slow DoS attacks are able to prevent access to the target service faster and more effectively than conventional flood attacks. The detection system, on the other hand, is able to detect them.
Detection of slow-rate DDoS attacks
Sikora, Marek ; Frolka, Jakub (referee) ; Blažek, Petr (advisor)
This diploma thesis is focused on the detection and protection against Slow DoS and DDoS attacks using computer network traffic analysis. The reader is introduced to the basic issues of this specific category of sophisticated attacks, and the characteristics of several specific attacks are clarified. There is also a set of methods for detecting and protecting against these attacks. The proposed methods are used to implement custom intrusion prevention system that is deployed on the border filtering server of computer network in order to protect Web servers against attacks from the Internet. Then created system is tested in the laboratory network. Presented results of the testing show that the system is able to detect attacks Slow GET, Slow POST, Slow Read and Apache Range Header and then protect Web servers from affecting provided services.
