Israeli Folk Dance:History and Presence with a Particular Focus on Dancing in the Czech Republic

This thesis intends to introduce Israeli folk dance from a number of different perspectives. In the first part, based on literature review, the author presents the origins of Israeli folk dances in Israel as well as their roots and the way they further function in a current Israeli society. Special attention is given to the problematic labeling of Israeli folk dance as "folk". The second part of the thesis is based on the author's own field work and describes the ways Israeli folk dances are practiced in the Czech environment. Whereas in Israel these dances are mostly connected with demonstration of Israeli identity, they get different meanings in the Czech environment. Firstly the author attempted to reconstruct the history of spreading of Israeli folk dances in the Czech environment and to map the different groups involved in these dances. Collection of these facts can be further used as an information source for all researchers wishing to conduct studies on Israeli folk dances in the Czech Republic in the future. Secondly the author concentrated on the ways of practicing Israeli folk dances in a Prague group called Besamim. Russian Folk Dance and Music Ensembles

The topic of this bachelor's thesis is to outline and to discuss folklore and chosen Russian folk ensembles of songs and dances. The aim of the thesis is to introduce the topic to readers and to compare folk ensembles what is the difference among the particular ensembles and what is characteristic for them. The first part deals with folklore in general and is divided into several chapters which are related to this topic. The second part of the thesis deals with a development of Russian theatre until 1800 and from 1800 to 1850. The third part is practical and is focused on chosen dance ensembles and responses to submitted questionnaire. The final section is reserved for The Alexandrov Ensemble choir that is the best known, the biggest and the most popular folk ensemble in the whole Russian federation.

Jiří Hartl from Stará Paka and his Partibus pro violin prim

This is a report on a history-oriented ethnomusicology research of a unique Czech music document, a collection created by a teacher named Jiří Hartl (1781–1849) of Stará Paka, east Czech Republic. Dating back to 1810–1820, Hartl´s manuscript contains 700 descriptions of dance-instrumental melodies for violin, with names like ländler, steyrisch, schotisch, egosso(e), marsch etc. The research explores the historical and cultural context of Hartl´s work in the bilingual, Czech-German region of northeastern Bohemia, and the position of a small-town teacher in the first half of the 19th century
Janáček´s National Dances in Moravia and other piano arrangements of national folk dances

The study persued Janáček´s collecting activities and folk dances, which had been transcribed by the composer for the piano (2and 4 hands). For the critical edition the authorized first edition of the National Dances in Moravia has served as a source and some transcriptions have been edited for the first time.
