Therapeutic program in day care centres for psychiatric clientele evaluated by the clients
URBÁNKOVÁ, Iveta
The ever-growing number of psychiatric disorders and diseases in the population gradually brought about changes in the system of the care of mental patients. The main characteristic of the changes is the break up of large inpatient medical institutions and transfer of the care to outpatient centres as close to the client´s natural environment as possible. Day care centres comprise some feature of both the types of care mentioned above. Their obvious advantage is the fact that the client is not taken out of his or her natural environment. The survey presented in the bachelor thesis was focused on subjective evaluations of the therapeutic programs in three chosen facilities of this type. The survey was based on the method of interviewing and the technique of questionnaires. The survey took place in day care facilities in Znojmo, Havlíčkův Brod and Jihlava. Two hypotheses were stated regarding the clients´satisfaction with therapeutic programs. The first hypothesis stating that the clients viewed the therapeutic programs as beneficial for them, was proved. The second hypothesis, which expressed the view that there was more satisfaction among the patients suffering from neurosis and other non-psychotic disorders than those with psychotic disorders, was not proved. The conclusions indicate that the clients are satisfied with this form of psychiatric care, and that they evaluate the therapeutic program of day care centres as beneficial. Therefore it seems to be important that the increase in these centres availability and number continues even in the future.
