Studium potlačení jetů ve srážkách těžkých iontů na LHC pomocí detektoru ATLAS
Štefko, Pavol ; Spousta, Martin (advisor) ; Pleskot, Vojtěch (referee)
Jet production in PbPb collisions at a per-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV has been studied using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Interactions between the high- pT partons and the hot, dense medium, produced in these ultrarelativistic collisions, are expected to cause the loss of the jet energy (jet quenching). This thesis presents results of the jet analysis done on the data taken during the 2011 heavy-ion run at the LHC. Jets are reconstructed using the anti-kt jet clustering algorithm and studied as a function of collision centrality and dijet energy imbalance. With increasing centrality, dijets are observed to be increasingly asymmetric, consistent with the theory of jet quenching. The study of charged particle tracks indicates the increase of the low-pT tracks in the strongly quenched jets. 1
Search for leptoquarks with the ATLAS experiment
Martinovicová, Gabriela ; Pleskot, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Mlynáriková, Michaela (referee)
The ATLAS experiment records data from the collisions of protons accelerated in the Large Hadron Accelerator (LHC). The LHC is a major part of the Accele- rator Complex in the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). In the recorded data it is possible to find new undiscovered particles by means of data analysis. Example of such particles are leptoquarks. This bachelor thesis is based on data collected in 2015-2016 at 13 TeV centre-of-mass energy and with a total luminosity of 36.1 fb−1 . In these data, there was no indication of the exis- tence of leptoquarks, which originate from the paired production with the decay channel, where one leptocvark decays into muon and quark and the other one into neutrino and quark, and so this thesis aims to set a limit on the production cross-section for these particles. 1

Study of cosmic muons in Tile calorimeter
Slovák, Radim ; Davídek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Drásal, Zbyněk (referee)
Main goal of this thesis is to learn about detector ATLAS, mainly about his hadron calorimeter Tile Calorimeter. Next step is get knowledge about processing date with program ROOT. It is necessary to test and monitor detector for example by muons from cosmic rays before his initiation. We analysed real experimental date from single module of Tile Calorimeter here. We found out signal-to-noise ratio. Then we separed out signal and noise and we found cells which muons flew through.
Measurement of the top quark properties
Schovancová, Jaroslava ; Chudoba, Jiří (advisor) ; Davídek, Tomáš (referee) ; Filipčič, Andrej (referee)
Title: Measurement of the top quark properties Author: Mgr. Jaroslava Schovancová Department: Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Re- public Supervisor: RNDr. Jiří Chudoba, Ph.D., Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic Abstract: This Thesis presents the ATLAS experiment measurement of the top quark differential cross-section as a function of pT, mass and rapidity of the t¯t system. A sample of approx. 4.7 fb−1 of the 2011 pp collision data at the center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was analyzed. The differential spectra shapes in the t¯t system are consistent with the Standard Model and reason- ably described by the event generators. Several activities in the scope of ATLAS Distributed Computing are pre- sented, particularly in the area of operations, monitoring, automation, and development of the PanDA Workload Management System. Such activities aim to improve efficiency and facilitate the use of distributed computing re- sources and therefore contribute in supporting the ATLAS Physics Program. Keywords: ATLAS, top quark, differential cross-section, missing transverse energy, ATLAS Distributed Computing
Modernizace vnitřního detektoru ATLAS
Mészárosová, Lucia ; Doležal, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Mikeštíková, Marcela (referee)
The main goal of this master thesis is, at first, to describe upcoming upgrade of ATLAS experiment in CERN in Switzerland and to describe the principle of strip silicon detectors. Then it is measurement and analysis of data from laser tests with two lasers: red and infra-red. Last but not least goal is to document the method of measurement and analysis of laser tests for the future laser tests. The text of the thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to the research facility CERN, its present experiment ATLAS and future experiment ATLAS Upgrade. The second chapter explains properties of semiconductors and the principle of strip semiconductor detectors. The third chapter describes whole measurement layout: a lab for testing, equipment needed for the tests and the whole system functioning. In the fourth chapter there are actual results from the laser tests. The tests were done on two end-cap prototype modules for ATLAS Upgrade with strip silicon sensors using two lasers: red and infra-red. The last chapter briefly explains the functions of macros that were created for measuring and analysing data from laser tests.
Measurement of the B0 meson lifetime at ATLAS detector
Řezníček, Pavel ; Doležal, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Cvach, Jaroslav (referee) ; Catmore, James Richard (referee)
Title: Measurement of the B0 d meson lifetime at ATLAS detector Author: Pavel Řezníček Department: Institute of Particle and Nuclear Physics Supervisor of the doctoral thesis: Dr. Zdeněk Doležal Supervisor's e-mail address: Zdenek.Dolezal@mff.cuni.cz Abstract: The lifetime of B0 d mesons is determined from their decays B0 d → J/ψK∗0 reconstructed in ATLAS experiment at the LHC using pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and corresponding to integrated luminosity of 40 pb−1 . The lifetime, extracted from the simultaneous unbinned maximum likelihood mass-lifetime fit, is 1.51±0.04 (stat.)±0.04 (syst.) ps. A total number of 2750±90 (stat.) signal B0 d decays are observed in the measurement, with a fit- ted B0 d mass of 5363.7 ± 1.2 (stat.) MeV. Both the extracted B0 d meson mass and lifetime are within the determined errors consistent with the world average values. Although the achieved precision is still significantly lower than the one of the world average value, the measurement successfully tested the feasibility of the fit-method and allowed to cross-check ATLAS detector performance. Keywords: CERN, LHC, ATLAS, B-physics, B-hadron, Lifetime

Dendrologická skladba lesů oblasti Diriamba, Nikaragua
Naďová, Zdena
In this bachelor thesis I was dealing with a brief atlas of woody plants at the farm of La Reserva. The aim was to compile and process a transparent atlas of the trees on the farm, which includes their description, distribution and use. Thirty species have been identified and a detailed photo-documentation of bark, leaves, overall appearance and the abundance has been processed for each wood. I processed the woody plants into a general table, which gives the name of woody plants, use and abundance. According to a qualified estimation, I have divided the number of trees into three categories - rare, common and abundant. Based on this knowledge, the importance of species, their potential use and proposed farm management were assessed.
