Eduard Douša, composer and teacher

The thesis brings the general point of view on the personality of Eduard Douša as composer and teacher. The first chapter brings a brief curriculum vitae of Douša. The second chapter offers an complete view at the composer´s work. It makes us familiar with the author´s beginnings as composer, first inspirations and personalities, which inspired him in studying composition, but also with his attitude to modern composition techniques. It is here closer spoken about reasons of composer´s interest in instructional works for kids and young adults. In this chapter is also analysed the topic of choice of musical forms, which Eduard Douša prefers, and he is convenient with them. The third chapter deals with Douša´s opinions on teaching, and methods he uses in his teaching of the composition. There are also mentioned the people, who served as role models to Douša. In the final, fourth chapter, is previous knowledge supported by meeting selected works of Eduard Douša for brass instruments. The biggest attention is given to Sonatina for flute and the piano.
JIŘÍ HLAVÁČ IN THE CHANGES OF PROFESSIONS AND GENRES

The bachelor thesis „Jiří Hlaváč in the changes of professions and genres‟ is dealing about the artistic activity of Professor Jiří Hlaváč. In this work I present his musical beginnings, interpretative activities and achievements in chamber ensembles such as the Barock Jazz Quintet. I also deal with his pedagogical, compositional, arranging, dramaturgical, publishing and popularization activities. Part of this work is dedicated to recordings, awards, programs for Czech Television and Czech Radio and work in artistic and music institutions.
Works of Jan Klusák and Marek Kopelent

Bachelor work about the New Music phenomenon and two composers, Marek Koplent and Jan Klusák. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical-historical and analytical. The theoretical and historical part deals with the new music and musical life of both composers, their musical activities in ensemble Musice viva pragensis (Kopelent) and Komorní harmonie (Klusák). Deals with the modern European music that influenced the composers. This section is divided into three chapters. The first concerns New Music and characterizes it, others deal with both composers. The second part of the bachelor thesis is analytical. This is an analysis of the compositions of the Jitřní chvalozpěv (1978) by Marek Kopelent and VII. Invence pro orchestr (1972−73) by Jan Klusák. The bachelor work is written using this literature and on the basis of personal interviews with both composers. In the analytical section are scanned scores.
Petr Eben / Johannes Amos Comenius: The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart

This theses deals with the cycle “The Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart” for organ and the reciter, composed by Petr Eben who was inspired by the written artwork of the same name by Johannes Amos Comenius. Eben’s String quartet based on the same literary work is also mentioned. The content of this thesis includes the biography of both authors, Eben and Comenius. In order to achieve a better insight into the Comenius’s work, the outline of the contemporary political development and its philosophical and religious background is also included. The contents of several different passages of Comenius’s text are described in more details. These were used by Eben as the foundation for the organ improvisations. The description of individual musical parts of the cycle is also introduced. This theses also includes the inspirational sources of Eben’s cycle, especially the Comenius’s spiritual songs published in the Amsterdam Hymn Book, as well as the comparison between Eben’s manuscript and available printed versions of his cycle, and available audio recordings of his work. Last but not least this work also mentions the works of other Czech composers of the second half of the 20th century (i.e. J. Krcek, M. Raichl, A. Tucapsky) who were inspired by the Comenius’s creations (not only by the “Labyrinth”).

Philly Joes Jones as a leader on records between the years 1958 - 1968

The topic of the thesis is about a personal life and musical career of a great drummer Philly Joe Jones, who has become a crucial person of the jazz era. The goal of this thesis is to understand his drumming language and to find out how successful he was as a band leader. First part of the thesis describes his personal life and music development. At the second part of thesis we can find the list of recordings that he made as a leader between the years 1958 – 1968. There are also listed particular transcriptions of his drum solos, which were analysed. As a result of the thesis is that the recordings of him as a leader are not significant, but his drumming language is unique. Rudimental drumming and licks of Philly Joe Jones and licks are still alive nowadays.
