Study of mechanics as a search for interrelations

Author presents examples of analogous problems from various fields of mechanics of elastic solids which are solved using an identical mathematical model. Paper deals also with discrepancies between solutions obteined either by analytical or numerical methods. By the use of functional analysis, an interrelation is found between methods of solution of discrete and continuum models. The limitations of the linear theory of elsticity are discussed.
Image processing of CT and MRI data for biomechanical applications

In the case of image processing to obtain the geometry of tissues means an image segmentation. A segmentation is a process subdividing an image into its constituent parts or objects. There are some basic ways to achieve this. For detecting intensity discontinuities (borders) edge detectors are used. They can be implemented as approximate mathematical gradient operators or derivative operators. This paper prasents comparison of edge detectors on a set of CT images of human body.
Influence of production inaccuracies interaction on head' reliability

The paper deals the problem of the ceramic head reliability calculation based on the Weibull weakest link theory. The input parameters to this analysis are stresses in the head and the volume, when this stresses are acted and material parameters pertinet to the brittle fracture process of the ceramic material.

Study of the plastic zone size in the V-notch tip vicinity

A plastic zone at a sharp V-notch tip is studied in this paper. Relation for the plastic zone shape and size of a V-notch loaded by mode I in dependence on the open angle 2 alpha of a V-notch is derived. The conditions of V-notch stability are formulated.
