Landscape photography in the research of landscape change
Skokanová, H. ; Halas, Petr ; Koutecký, T. ; Kallabová, Eva ; Havlíček, M. ; Slach, T.
The paper presents partial results of “entering” landscape photography, which can be considered as a complementary method for the research of landscape changes. Unlike the usual assessment of landscape changes using cartographic and other archival sources, old landscape photographs can contribute to the deeper knowledge of the local specifics of the examined places or supplement the conventional procedures. Thanks to the ongoing project, supported by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TL02000222), we documented changes in photographic shots of various landscapes in the 20th century. We also added information about environment, vegetation, and geography and photo documentation of the details of the researched shot. This creates a comprehensive output for each old landscape photograph. Such processed photographs have been presented at exhibitions in museums and galleries. Furthermore, they will be available to municipalities and public at a web page created as a tool to support public recreation. Here we present some examples from the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. They show four types of landscape changes: 1) afforestation and overgrowth bywoody vegetation, 2) changes in the agricultural landscape, 3) loss of the grazing landscape, and 4) changes related to watercourses.\n
Resuscitation of landscape painting by research of landscape changes

An analysis of selected landscape paintings shows that only a third of them are located directly on a hiking trail, bike path or nature trail. In the case of other landscape paintings, it is possible to make other, hitherto neglected parts of the territory more attractive to tourists by locating the places of the painter's shots, which may lead to their desired deconcentration from the places that are frequently visited by tourists.
Potential of Historical Water Management Objects in Tourism

Historic water management facilities may have various uses in the field of tourism. Some water management facilities can be adapted for purposes of board and/or lodging of visitors, which is a common alternative use of former water mills, sawmills or hammermills (workshops for processing of iron by mechanical hammer). A smaller part of water management facilities serves within tourism as attractive goals for visitors, e.g. expositions in old water mills, hammermills, paper mills, sawmills, stamping mills, hydroelectric power plants, waterworks facilities. In addition to the above examples, the preserved water management structures can also become attractive if they become part of hiking and biking trails. These include aqueducts, remains of navigation canals, old wells, preserved and extinct old weirs and dikes. Some water management objects have cultural and historical significance and are protected as cultural monuments. An evaluation of the potential of historic water management facilities in all aspects of tourism was performed in selected river basins in the Czech Republic.
