Castles of Hussites Era
Sýkora, Milan ; Klápště, Jan (advisor) ; Plaček, Miroslav (referee)
This thesis deals with the Czech castles during the Hussite Wars (1419-1436 and 1467-1485). Its aim was to explore and evaluate a group of selected objects and compare the results with the development of castle architecture in Europe. Research has shown that - in connection with the introduction of early guns in the end of the 14th century - there was a radical change of military tactics and castle architecture. Castles were equipped with a new type of fortifications that were not only resistant to artillery, but also allowed for their efficient firearm defense. Along with the penetration of the Hussite troops into neighboring countries, there came the spread of their military knowledge, which has gradually adopted in entire Central Europe. The local military architecture stands at the beginning of the Medieval fort architecture and precedes, by nearly a hundred years, the Italian and German fortifications. Key-words: Central Europe - Late Middle Age - Early Modern Age - Castle - Fortress - Firearms

In total, this thesis comprises of seven chapters, including the Introduction and the Conclusion. After an introduction, uncommonly, a prologue follows. This Prologue outlines a new, unusual instrument of the Czech law - svěřenský fond. It refers to the particular legislation and outlines questions that arise with this recently transplanted device. The third chapter defines trust using comparative law and deals with its historical development both on the British Islands and in the civil and mixed jurisdictions. The second subchapter argues that the so-called obstacles of trust reception into civil law are not based on solid arguments. Further, I describe experience of trust reception in selected civil law and mixed jurisdictions. In the fourth...

Sýkora, Milan ; Sláma, Jiří (referee) ; Klápště, Jan (advisor)
The main goal of this work was descriptive documentation of medieval noble seats in Velemin Basin lying at České Středohoří near Milešovka. Two main types were recognized - medieval castles and strong-holds, residential seats with primal economic function were not involved into the analysis. Each locality was compared with literature search based on underlying written sources. The next step was description of objects preserved parts and their consecutive documentation. The analysis strongly pointed at wide typological variability of medieval noble seats, from simple ones with solitaire buildings to large concepts, depending on social status, economic potential and its function. The oldest castles known in this area are dated even at 14. century (Skalka, Opárno, Košťálov a Milešov). As result of this castle Oltářík was based, with its primary function to guard the new possession. Oltářík is...
